View Full Version : Tatooine Maps?

05-10-2002, 12:13 PM
Greetings, my name is J-3P6... Jedi/Cyborg relations, I am a Protocol Jedi :c3po: . I'm fairly new to the art of JK2 mapping, and I hope to add my vision to the community in the following months. I have a few questions I hope some of you can provide answers to, thank you.

1. Is there a map(s) in development centering around Tatooine? Such as Mos Eisley, Jabba's Palace, the Dune Sea, or Mos Espa/Boonta Races Stadium?

2. Are there skins/models being developed of the Jawas? Tusken Raiders? I just may be the only one with the mentality that a Jawa with a lightsaber would make for an interesting character. :jawa

3. Finally, any Tatooine related prefabs or models available for future maps? As a rule, I generally release most of my own prefabs for the community after I've produced my maps- just a form of giving back to all of us to benefit from.

Greetings J3PO, my name is Tigris- Holographic aid in this space-station...

1. There are several maps in developement on Tatooine:
-One very fine piece of art from Tems, which is located in Mos Espa (to the best of my knowledge)
-Mos Eisley & Cantina are in developement by myself
-I think I remember another map on Tatooine being made, but do not know where and who it is made by.

2. I hope so too, for I would like to add some to my map.

3. As far as I know not, only a Vaporator by Tems and a Landspeeder (made by him too) where shown yet, but since Tems had some problems with his PC I think they will not be released in the near future.

I hope the aid I could offer satisfied your needs at least a bit.

For infos about the Mos-Eisley map you can look here, but It really is in a early state... (http://www.durahcell.de)

When my Naboo map is done I might be able to start on it but I can't be sure cause of the time it takes (school comes first) and I have to do another map based on the campaign order of maps.

Ok, spacermonkey convinced me to put out a new edition of 'lousiest map ever'- ffa_cantina :D

So, there are issues on this preview- some of them been several times noted (like the lighting and the borders, for both I haven't found a good fix).
I have added some scrap to them surrounding, hopefully it will take away the clean looks a bit already- the rest should be improved when I find a sky that is less glowish...

Hope everyone has some fun playing it already and let me know if anything comes to your attention that needs fixing...

Sorry ProtocolJedi for using your post for releasing this, but there are already enough posts out there.

I'm very pleased of the news there will be several renditions of Tatooine (A fan-favorite in Star Wars locales I proudly add :D ). Tatooine holds many facinating histories and regions, cultures and dangers. The sole reason I joined up on the forums was to witness the many stages and plans regarding all things Tatooine for JK2 (Maps, Mods, Skins, and Models). I'm a previous mapper for Star Trek: Elite Force and I have enjoyed creating for that mythos, and when I heard the news of JK2, my thoughts raced to the idea that a talented few would bring Tatooine alive. I'm familar with Unikorn's work from EF, and I believe his Star Wars work will be marvelous as well (Greetings Uni from another Raven BBS member!). Now, may I add some suggestions? I believe a large map for exploration is preferable to something medium or small. My previous map is around 11MB and I'm still working on it. If I decide to contribute to JK2 (Which who could resist adding a signature to a Star Wars project?), it will dwell on Tatooine. Maybe all us Tatooinians can help each other out? Back on topic, exploration seems a better route than a cramped, few room map resulting in an all-out brawl. That's me of course and that is what I am in the very early pre-production stages for. I'm not a modeller or skinner, so I can't help with a Jawa or Tusken player, though I will be praying someone takes up the cause *S*. So far I'm impressed with all I have witnessed today. Keep up the good work. Thank you all...and may the Force be with ya. God Bless, Sincerely...ProtocolJedi (Joshua) :c3po:

Geez 11MB- I'm at 3 so far I think ;)

Anyway, the Cantina was really developed on that subject too- I wanted to see how much the engine can handle- but I will end it as soon as people report FPS-problems and such. Hopefully this won't happen too soon :D

Tigris Are You Planning To Add Npc's?

05-11-2002, 01:36 PM
Erm- perhaps, after I figured out everything else. I really would like to add a bartender, the jawas, some shopowners, greedo... *list-goes-on-for-pages* , BUT I really wanted to fix all problems with the levels (lightning and such) before adding those finishing touches...

Ahhh I see. Well Cant Wait Till The Map is fully finished tigris! Keep up the good work!

05-11-2002, 01:47 PM
Thanks tigris, the cantina has to be one of the most interesting locations in starwars. I love the interirior of it. :D

05-11-2002, 02:51 PM
very good level i enjoyed messing around on it and i hope you finish it soon

05-13-2002, 11:32 AM
Ok- Bad News: I installed the GTK-Update and it messed up my fixed sky-shaders :(

But hopefully I will be able to get a good one soon and then improve the athmosphere even more :)

Thanks by the way for the support- It really helps me figure out things to improve on the map!

I'm creating a sp map set on Tatooine. It is an underground palatial complex inspired by Jabba's palace - though not replicating it - which has since been converted into an Imperial operations centre.

Can anyone please tell me if Jabba had any descendants or relatives whose palace could provide the fictional setting for this map? (I basically would like to be able to justify the existance of an Imperial base housed within a jabba-ish palace.)

Thanks to protocoljedi for the advise concerning map size. Seeing it typed on screen has made me realize what I was only vaguely beginning to suspect but trying to deny myself because of the work involved in creating a large, interest-sustaining map.

05-13-2002, 02:59 PM
So, to my knowledge Jabba was the only one there- after his fall Lady... uhm.. (Valaria?? Dunno, the one who owned the Space-Port Hotel) took over his buisness. The actual palace was claimed by the monks again. So I think you'll need to make up another reason.
Perhaps a outpost of the sand-people that the imps took over? I mean they are long there and somewhere they need to build those blasters and sticks too...

Or just make up a story: some niece of Jabba wanted to claim Jabbas place, moved to Tatooine and build a palace. Unknown to her Lady mentioned above plotted against her and gave the imps a tip about some hot items that the Huttess had hidden in that palace. Imps search the palace, find the merchandise and arrest the Hutt. What should they do with the palace? The other crime-lady resides in the casino, so they converted it.

Story written- problem solved ;)

I wish it would go as easy with mapping too :D

Oh, and Markana: The only real problem with that kind of maps is the compiling time- that really sucks :(

05-13-2002, 03:27 PM
Markana, although fuzzy on the details, I do believe Jabba's own father (or would that be his mother as well?) is his closest living relative: Zorba the Hutt.

05-13-2002, 03:33 PM
Isn't he the one killed in darksaber?

I really would go for the neece or nephew thing- perhaps uncle or aunt... Dunno, the black sheep in the family no one talks about :D

05-13-2002, 10:59 PM
Wow - thank you both for the suggestions. Because my own knowledge of the Hut clan is so limited perhaps it is best if I fabricate some distant relative or black sheep as Tigris puts it.

Either way, the important thing is that this Hut is no longer in existence and his/her disused palace has now been appropriated by the Empire.

Any more suggestions are still welcome. :)

ProtocolJedi, what's your screen name on the Raven BBS?
I'm Agent007. :)

And If you didn't notice, I'm making a Sarlacc pit map. And, I'll probably release my small Skiff as a prefab when I'm done w/ it.

Well, you could head over to www.jedioutcastmaps.com (http://www.jedioutcastmaps.com) and snatch it there

OR just follow this link:

here (http://www.durahcell.de/jk2preview/ffa_cantina.zip)

05-16-2002, 09:12 PM
if you check out

you can get a ****load of 3ds models from tatooine structures as well as a mos eisley textures pack.

05-16-2002, 09:30 PM
The textures are a good thing to have, but I don't think the models will help much. Except maybe as reference or something.

05-16-2002, 10:43 PM
or if you can convert them to md3 like i will be able to here shortly :D

05-16-2002, 10:59 PM
LivingDeadJedi told me he might be converting his EF Jabba's Palace over to JO, as well as make a pit of Carkoon.. but havent heard anything else yet..

Cmdr. Antilles
05-17-2002, 01:03 AM
Heheh... 3 pits of carkoon. Great. :)

And converting them to md3 is an option, but not if you want to be able to explore them...

I don't think they'd be too terribly difficult to make w/ some patch meshes.

05-17-2002, 12:34 PM
true. i'm not trying to convert the buildings... i'm trying to convert these ships... even a jabba the hutt model. you might like that antilles for your pit of carkoon map. jabba watching the battles and all. :D

SWEET! I'm in a little slice of Tatooine heaven as we speak :) . First, we all are equally blessed to have returned to Tatooine in Attack of the Clones (Now, this really shouldn't be a surprise anymore, hence the lack of 'Spoiler' content. Though, please forgive the faux pau for those of you who had no clue Tatooine would appear in the movie). That was, by far, my favorite part in that entire film. Simply marvelous! And now, I found out a whole bevy of maps and models are coming out, dear Lord thank you. I was in preperation to map not only the exterior/interior of Jabba's Palace, but an underground passage from his lair to a near-by town. I imagine it would have taken a year to complete, plus suitable textures and models would have well over placed this in the 10MB range. But I have plans to construct something in regards to Tatooine. Agent 007, it's good to see you and Unikorn here. You know me as that mad author of creepy tomes- TBK. I look forward to your Sarlacc map. Thank you all for bumping this post, now they can't forget our little Outer Rim world...Mwahahaha :jawa . Now all we need are Jawa and Tusken skins/models/NPC, I was well pleased upon hearing of a Jabba model. Hrm, if it wouldn't be too morbid, maybe someone could make a burnt corpse Owen and Beru model? Just kidding  .
