New pics are up. I've changed the skin around a bit and did the face..it looks decent, for being a modified imperial officer face :P

I just have to skin the hands, then I'm going to try to get it in-game...*crosses fingers* Oh yeah, that's creed's logo on the meddalion, which is also my avatar :P

you want people to go easy on you?! have you read any of the posts in this forum?! ;) just kidding ... i hope you get a lot of helpful feedback.

i have yet to dabble in making models for jkII, so i really can't appreciate all the effort people put into them. but let me tell you that this guy ROCKS! as for any constructive criticism, here goes. i agree that his thighs need work ... looks like he has extremely large quads. the drapery thing you have going on extending below his belt could be extended even more - knee length? his forehead seems to protrude too far which kind of makes the nose look a little thin. HOWEVER, this last comment, i feel, could only apply if the guy is human ... is he? if not, let your imagination run wild.

that's my 2 cents ... keep us posted on progress, please. pretty pictures make us happy. keep up the great work!

Thank you for your comments. Tonight I plan on fixing the legs, and I will mess around with the head to try to make it look better.
I am hoping to release it with lots of skin variants, a custom lightsaber and cusotm taunts for each skin..

can't wait to see your progress. now get out of the forums and FINISH THIS GUY! ... ;)

*straches head and looks closer* Intresting. Very Intresting.... Nah It's Really Good! Keep Up The Good Work. :D

05-28-2002, 07:31 PM
That's good.. very good actually. :)

I'm doing an original character as well.. and I was looking for a ... hmm how do you say... a Nemesis for him... your models seems to be matching my idea so far.

When you get him done wanna put our guys in a server and battle? ;)

If ya need any help just ask.

Watchout for the shoulders... they are really a B!tc# to animate correctly.

05-28-2002, 07:35 PM
The face looks a little flat, but I really like the look of the model good work. :)

05-28-2002, 07:42 PM
You don't know how good I feel right now. Being complimented by the two best modelers on the forum ^_^; Thanks much, guys, and thanks for the comments. I'm gonna concentrate on fixing the head tonight.

That'd be cool Bloodriot. My ping sucks, but it sounds like fun.

So far, my only worry is weighting the vertices..I have virtually no experience with the Skin modifier, so it's still kinda alien to me. What I was planning to do was weighting the entire piece of armor to the upper body, and weight the rest of the body as normal...how should I handle the, heh, loincloth? Should I wait the bottom vertices to the legs, and the upper ones to the hips?

05-28-2002, 08:04 PM
Soul has a tute that covers the basic functions of the skin modifier;

Its worth checking out if your unsure of how to procede.
Your right about the loin cloth, it will need to be partially weighted to the legs and hips. You'll have to experiement and see what works best - because too much weighting to the legs will result in it jumping around like mad when he walks and too little will result in major clipping. Always compromise.

05-28-2002, 08:14 PM
Looking good! For the face, I would say make the nose and chin bigger.

05-28-2002, 08:16 PM
Thanks for the help, spacermonkey. Combined with your excellent tutorial, I should be able to figure everything out. Is there a way to find out if I have every single vertex weighted? Thats one of the problems I've had in the past..

05-28-2002, 08:51 PM
Yes!!! Original work makes me gidy....

Looking pretty nice, cant wait to see more.

Very, very nice. I like the concept. Just keep listening to the advice of the more experienced moders.

Me, ignore. I dont know sheeaht about modeling. But I do know what I like...

05-28-2002, 11:09 PM
why woudl u wnat people to go easy on u?! u dont need them to, its swwweeeet! just a few flat parts as mentiond.. but its very very very very good!:koon: :emperor: :tie: :vadar: :yoda:  :swear:

well, I got the face fixed..looks alot better, so thanks for commenting on that, everyone...I started to skin it, but I'm getting discouraged..it looks like crap...I can't skin faces worth a damn :(

time to ask for a skinner in the skinning forum then, ;)

but for your other question, as far as I know theres no way to check in max wether all the verts are weighted - except by moving the whole damn thing ie (drag the pelvis bone - everything else should get dragged along too - if a vert has no weight it wont get dragged, then press undo) Theres bound to be a 'proper' way of doing, I just havent discovered it yet.

05-29-2002, 10:06 PM
That guy's looking awesome Wolf. Definately keep up the work on him.

05-29-2002, 11:46 PM
Just be careful who you let skin your model..ask for some samples of work first. There are some real hackjobs lurking around that forum....

05-30-2002, 06:43 PM
Well guys, things are going pretty well...I took the face texture off the imperial officer and I've modified it alot, and looks good..kinda cheating, but oh well...I'll have an updated pic up tonight if I can break myself away from Morrowind :)

05-31-2002, 03:18 AM
Along with the new pics up top, I also have a pic of the lightsaber hilt I've constructed for my still unamed sith character..

Comes in at around 370 faces. Lemme know what you think :)

05-31-2002, 10:48 AM
wow! now that he's skinned he looks bad@$$!! awesome work ... keep it up!

any thoughts to sounds/taunts for him?

05-31-2002, 03:26 PM
Thanks for the kind words.

For the taunt, I was thinking of a simple "Join me...", which seems to be a line used by most dark jedi/sith :P

Still need a name...uhg. Anyone got any ideas? Because I can't think of a thing...

new pics of the saber, skinned:

05-31-2002, 03:37 PM
Looking good Wolf...

05-31-2002, 03:41 PM
Well, for the name, I guess first we have to know if he's actually a Sith Lord, or just a Dark Jedi? If he's a Sith Lord, you should go with a Darth name. He looks to me like a Darth Brutal perhaps? :)

05-31-2002, 03:59 PM

- darth strife? (conflict/rivalry)
- darth havoc? (chaos/mayhem)
- darth fracas? (disturbance/melee)

i know, i know, these names are kind of cheesy, but don't sith names "try" to actually mean something, at least some of the time:

tyrannus - tyranny/dictatorship
maul - attack/injure
vader - who the f*** knows?!
sidious - again, wtf?!

if he's just a dark jedi, i have no idea. i know there's a "formula" to create your "official" star wars name. i've also heard you can create a star wars name by pronouncing your name backwards (adding hyphens and apostrophes as necessary). did you try either of these?

i don't think i've helped you at all, but you've done a very commendable job, wolf! i like the taunt, too! ROCK ON!!

05-31-2002, 04:52 PM
Vader is Dutch for father, if I remember correctly. I discovered that in my textbook for my godawful History of the English Language class. Hope that helps :D

no s**t?! i guess that makes sense cause it's pater in latin, padre in spanish ... it works for me. don't you just LOVE history of the english language?

thanks for the insight, quamosity! i can sleep better at night knowing this. ;)

If you name him Wolf, I'd rather (personal opinion) not see DARTH tagged onto his name. All Sith lords don't use "darth" in their names, it's a popular "add-on" by Lucas after he re-wrote ANH.

It seems like for Jedi/Sith, the best way to go is with "BS" characters. (e.g. ' ` -) or "doubled up" consonants.

How about something like Va'rahn Garssalicc or SOMETHING that's just plain weird. :D

06-01-2002, 02:38 PM
*new here*

That guy's face isn't right! The armor/clothes look sweet for a dark jedi but the face is waaayyyy too "light".

My 2 cents.

Zain Sundancer
06-01-2002, 02:55 PM
he should have a hood or some hair, or maybe he could be black........
my two cents

06-02-2002, 12:35 AM
why settle for black? this is starwars, go green, maybe even multicolored with a strange buzz cut (like blade). well, not necesarilly green, but a pure sith isn't normal, he's either dark(maul, vader) or light->pale (sidious). sith go for the contrast look, while jedi like more "earthy colors" traditionally. the only somewhat normal sith is dooku, but he's a new guy in the business, and has yet to work on his paleness. :D good work though, looking cool. whats the story behind him? can't wait to download this one

Sorry about the lack of updates lately..been having some comp troubles, and Morrowind has been keeping me addicted as of late. Right now, I'm trying to weight the model and just get it in-game...I have the skin finished, and I took the advice about the skin color...I made him kinda pale looking. And he's human, for the time being. perhaps I will make an alien skin variant.

Also, to anyone who knows...I need help...When i select the torso segment, and apply the skin modifier, should I add the "pelvis" bone to the envelope list? I'm not quite sure...in Spacemonkey's tutorial, he shows the pelvis in the picture of the torso with the other bones, but I'm not sure if it's meant to be applies to the torso or not...help? ^_^;

Hmm, I really like Darth Strife or Darth Havoc, very cool names :) He actually needs two names, though.

As far as all the Sith having a Darth name, yes, they do, at least as far back as 1000 years ago. Perhaps Darth Bane was the first one to take a Darth name, and since he reorganized the Sith order into what it is in the Prequels, maybe they all take a Darth name to honor him. If he's a Sith, I would definitely go with a Darth name. If he's a just a Dark Jedi, go with something else.

I vote for Darth Havoc, seems to fit with his looks :)

06-03-2002, 04:02 AM
*sigh* problems...I got all of the vertices weighed and stuff, and I got it compiled into a glm file..but everything is messed up...there are body parts everywhere, lol...I think I screwed up the hierarchy(sp) somewhere, so *blah* gonna have to relink all of the tags or something I guess..

for the name, I was thinking Annon Strevok, or Darth Strevok...The Darth name seems kinda Cliche these days so I'm not sure if i will go with that...

06-03-2002, 01:50 PM
This guy looks like either a Darth Brutal (yes I know someone already said it), or a Darth Sanguine (bloodthirsty)

06-03-2002, 02:32 PM
Yeah we felt the same way about the Darth title on our model JRA. We were considering it for a time...went through such variations as Darth Vicious etc... in the end we decided that since our sith existed in the time period before Darth Bane's rule, before the Darth title and 2 sith rule went into affect, not to use it. I do think it is a tad cliche, not to mention that all the sith from Darth Bane to Darth Vader are known to us, its a little harder to create a story for an original character in that period.

My suggestions would be a Sith sounding name, or maybe even create your own title ;)

06-04-2002, 01:06 PM
Too much darkside now aday. Make him a jedi.

Might I suggest Mallard Cixon / (Jedi/Padawan)(Darth/Sith) Cixon.
Pronounced Six-on or Sci-un. Whichever you prefer. And maybe make the saber ridges(on the handle) black, or like a chrome or something. To make the model stick out.

06-04-2002, 02:55 PM
heh, abit too late now, mate...the model is almost done. Just have to fix some animation problems, try to get a custom sound and it'll be released, but I do plan on making a light side jedi skin for it...perhaps in Rev. 2.0 of the model...

06-04-2002, 09:17 PM
I've just read the "Jedi vs. Sith" Comic and I think he looks a littlebit like Darth Bane!

I can't Post an Image but maybe here is anotherone who knows the Comic and could Post one!

06-06-2002, 04:20 PM
*sigh* running into a buttload of problems here...got it into GLMView...kinda...first, the texture for the armor won't load..it says someting like "jpeg read error: requested feature was omitted at compile time" wtf?

Second, during animations, all of the joints have a gap...sapcemonkey mentions this in his tutorial, but I can't figure out how to fix it, even with setting the Abs. value to .5 on the two bones..

And I think I will have to make some changes to the model itself...it looks like the lower legs are too short, and the knee in the skeleton isn't where the knee is on the model..
