View Full Version : Female Twi Lek Model Needs Skinners

05-31-2002, 03:56 PM
I've built a female TwiLek model (Aayla Secura from Episode 2) and I'm looking for skinners for her. Its a chance you people to do a custom skin and be creative.

I will be doing a skin of Aayla thats why I'm looking for other skinners to interpret the model in their own. Make a sith skin for her, or simply a female Twi Lek dancing girl, what ever takes your fancy.

If your interested contact me bdimonkey(at)hotmail.com
I'd like to see some examples of your previous, but as only as proof that I wont be dealing with people who are trying to waste my time. I will provide the skinners with the model and skin maps.

06-01-2002, 02:50 AM
i'll do it.... she's hot... for an alien. ACTUALLY the actress who played her is even hotter so i'm justified. just something about those Twi'lek babes....must be that blue skin. anyhoo... i'll give it a stab mirenner@vt.edu . when i'm done with my WIP of course... :D

06-03-2002, 02:29 AM
I'll give it a try: divides_by_zero@hotmail.com Looks great, bout time somone made a twi'lek, they're cool.

06-03-2002, 02:44 AM
good luck with that.....id suggest asking for examples of work tho, otherwise you might end up with a mediocre skin on a great model. A great skin can make a decent model great, but a great model can't make a decent skin great.

06-03-2002, 06:37 AM
urm.... what program did you use to create your skin? just out of intersest because i would like to figure out which progra, would be best to use to make models:D thanks for your time. craig xx

06-03-2002, 03:11 PM
skins and models arent the same thing....models are the actual polygons, and skins are the textures that go over them. so if you're asking me what i use to to skin...its Photoshop 6

i would assume spacermonkey models with 3d Studio Max 4...could be wrong tho.

06-03-2002, 03:40 PM
I'll give it a shot. My email is muffin_eater1@hotmail.com (Contact me on MSN Messenger if you have it) If you want some examples of my work, look back a page or 2 for Jedi Master Nilrac Olegnad and Mace Windu.

06-04-2002, 01:07 PM
How are the other alternate skins coming for this wonderful model,... I know BradFu showed off his jedi master skin a bit And I think that's really looking good. While he decided to go for an older more experienced looking character, I decided to just go for the hot young female Twi-Lek look.

So,... Are there any other skins out there?

06-04-2002, 01:11 PM
You were going for Oola werent you, Hapslash?;) I said I was interested in doing one, but I wouldnt recommend me getting it when I dont have as much experience.

06-04-2002, 01:34 PM
In part,... After I got the model and finished a base skin for it I just started coming up with ideas for all sorts of different colored twi-leks.

I did think of making Oola at one time, but the facial stucture of the model was all wrong. So I decided to make something partailly based off Oola.

Other than this green skin, I also started on a red, a white, and a blue skin as well.

06-04-2002, 01:49 PM
Lookin good Hap! I was hoping you'd get in on this Twi'lek action since you're one of the best skinners :) I think I might try another, this time in an entirely different direction.

Darkhold X
06-04-2002, 01:57 PM
Now I just have to wait till the model is out so I can try my own skin.:(

06-04-2002, 02:07 PM
Hap how do you find the time for all of this!!!! I'm struggling with one Twilek and you are doing 4!!! Hehehe, I know, it's a matter of skin and bikini;) ;) ... but still!!! (hoth soldiers, farscape skins, who knows what else...)

Anyway, I posted a link in the modeling forum to my alternate. It's very WIP, and I'm behind schedule... but still you can understand where I am going. (I don't even know! Where I am going!)

06-04-2002, 03:08 PM
guys interested in skinning contact me at my email ! I never check in this forum so the ppl that posted their emails have been contacted.
Anyone else interested let me know asap.

yes I use Max 4 for modelling and Adobe's Photoshop 6 for texturing.

06-05-2002, 09:38 AM
I post a few of the concept shots I did a few days ago. I guess they could all become twilek skins with the right modifications. Maybe my brother will do one.

06-05-2002, 03:05 PM
HapSlash, you're doing an outstanding job! Can't wait! :)

06-05-2002, 05:20 PM
Those skins are looking good people! :)

Can't wait till they're finished. :D

06-05-2002, 07:22 PM
Send me your skins, when you've finished

06-05-2002, 10:31 PM
Hapslash, High quality as usual. But one thing bothers me a little, she is very very very green! I mean, vegetable green! Oola was much darke..............*Wait*.......... *concentrates on the force* ......................... you are thinking that she is not finished................................. and that she is not Oola ............................... *nods in silence*

06-06-2002, 12:53 AM
Yeah, I'd say that's a little better than what you started w/ brad... :D

Nice job. ;)

06-06-2002, 06:14 AM
First off I'd like to thank every one for their comments. It really helps motivate you when you know someone is watching.

I know that I said I was working on a total of 4 different skins, but after seeing the other ones people have been working on I've decided not to continue with them.

I'm still working on the green one, but the red, blue, and white ones I had started will be put off indefinitely. These colors had already been started on by other skinners and from what I've seen they're looking really good. I was able to alter the color of the blue one and turn it into a normal colored Twi-Lek, so I'll probably continue on that one, and I might turn the other two into Lyn Me and Shakka, but not right now. I've ben neglecting my other skins and probably should get back to them.

Very nice skin BradFu! I'll admit I do like this one a lot better than the first, but the first one was also pretty good. I happened to like the older jedi idea. it might look a littlle better though if you bring down the shadow under the lips a bit, just a thought,...

I also thought that I'd take this oppertunity to show off the progress I've made with the skin I was working on. Still not done yet but it is a lot closer,...

06-06-2002, 07:49 AM
That's a great looking skin there Hapslash! :D Very awesome...revealing and stuff... *drools* Oops. :p j/k ;)

Kick ass though, looks great. :) :jango:

06-06-2002, 12:33 PM
Here's an update to the face of Lenya: http://windu.cjb.net/lenyaface.jpg

06-06-2002, 02:51 PM
Very, good, try shading the corners of the eyes. They look too much separated from the face texture. Look at how Hapslash made the eye merge smoothly with the skin.

06-06-2002, 07:02 PM
Ok, final-final version :) This has been sent off to spacemonkey, and I'm completely happy with it now :)

Hap: I've not completely abandoned that older skin, I might use it in a mercenary-type skin :)

06-07-2002, 10:32 AM
Okay,... I think I'm finished with the skin I've been working on. I've included one more shot so everyone can see what it looks like.

If there's anything you think should be changed at all, let me know now, because this will probably be your last chance.

06-07-2002, 11:39 AM
You know what might look very nice, making the drape the same texture has the legs meshes thing, and then use an alpha channel to make the holes invisible so you can see trough. Just an idea.

06-07-2002, 11:56 AM
I actually thought of that, and was my original plan, but the image editor I'm using (micrografx) can't create the alpha channel, at least to my knowledge. I can't find any info on it. If anyone knows how to do it let me know,...

06-07-2002, 12:16 PM
It's pretty easy to do. I don't know about micrografx, but is here a link to a nice tutorial. If you can find the right tabs and functions.

06-08-2002, 06:21 AM
Okay, I went and got a copy of photoshop and made my alpha channeled texture, how do I get it so that I can see it on the model? Will it show up in Modview, I'm toatally lost.

06-08-2002, 12:08 PM
This is the tricky part and you won't be able to see anything in modview. So you will need to launch the game one or two times for testing.

Once you have your 32bit tga files with the alpha channel where you want transparencies, you will need to create a shader file(very simple one) that adds the transparencies effect. Transparency effect is pretty simple and you can find a script for that almost all over the web, same for quake3. (grates usualy use this effect). If you can't find it, I can post the script here and you will only need to cut and paste.

I hope you will be able to add that little effect, it adds that little extra touch that makes a skin stand out.

06-08-2002, 12:11 PM
Ill give it a go my email is killer_g_x@hotmail.com

06-08-2002, 02:43 PM

It's a shader manual for Quake3

Anyway this should be the script

cull none
// An opaque texture with see-through holes knocked in it
map textures/base_floor/pjgrate1.tga
alphaFunc GT0
rgbGen identity
map $lightmap
rgbGen identity
depthFunc equal

06-09-2002, 01:22 AM
I tried adding the shader and the texture for the skirt won't even show up,.... Something's still wrong, but I'm not sure what. I flipped up the command screen while in game and there were a few errors,.. I fixed one or two, but it says that the tga file is missing or something,... can't quite remember exactly what it said, guess I should have written it down.

06-09-2002, 01:34 AM
This is a quick answer, eh? :)

JK2 must have a few differences with Q3. I will go browse the jk2 shaders to find a grate and I will past you the shader. Make sure you don't have both a drape.jpg and a drape.tga in your pk3

try this, if this does not work, my skill with shaders, is lacking... again

qer_editorimage models/players/twilek/drape
surfaceparm metalsteps
map models/players/twilek/drape
alphaFunc LT128
rgbGen identity
map $lightmap

I AM NOT sure about some of the errors that the shader editor gives, but some of them may be due to the fact that you didn't extract all the textures from the assets0-pk3 file. Remember the models and modview?

06-09-2002, 02:12 AM
Thanks, I'll have to give it another try,... I did get the effect I'm going for to work in Modview though. You can see what, hopefully, it will look like in game in these final pics I ran off.

Whoah I didnt know that shaders were text files also. Could you set up a generic one for something that is shiny for me?:)

If you would I want it for a test skin with the path models/players/jantest/accesories

About the shiny level of the vader models helmet would be great. I should be able to figure out the alpha stuff on my own. It would need to be set up that stuff is either shiny, or not. Not holes like he needs on his.:D

I might be able to figure it out if I look through the vader one long enough.
Might need help changing the shader a bit to work the way I need it though

Great skin Hapslash, You easily one of the best skinners around.:)

-edit2 woohoo! I thought this shader stuff was hard. But I need to figure out how to get onnly parts of the certain pics not shiny now.

Im going to make my own thread about this SO I dont get this one off tracked.:D

06-10-2002, 02:44 AM
Darkhold, I am not that good with shaders. I learned a little by extracting all the assets0.pk3(yes, all of it) and then opening the scripts with notepad and shadered.exe. I plan on improving since I think it adds great possibilites that few people take advantage of.

Hapslash, did you make it? Is the texture transparent? I guess not, I wasn't very clear. (and it's not clear to me either :)).

Darkhold X
06-10-2002, 03:23 AM
I have been messing around with it some. Still stuck with shiny arms.:o Got this one shader that looks great for the pants, but then you cant see the texture though it.:(

I think He get the shader to work right from the one pic.

06-10-2002, 08:25 AM
Just posting my skin for the people who haven't already seen it in the modeling forum.

06-10-2002, 09:23 AM
Nice skin Grafox. That evil look owns!

This link is for anyone who is interested in superficial muscles. I used to use it sometimes for quick references:)).

I hope you enjoy!

06-10-2002, 10:53 AM
Okay,.... I still don't have it working. Here's what I'm getting in game.

The skin isn't the final version in this pic, but that's not really my concern right now. It's "HOW THE *BEEP* DO I GET THIS *BEEP*ITY *BEEP*ING SHADER TO *BEEP*ING WORK PROPERLY!!!!!"

ugh,.... I feel so much better now.

ugh,.... I feel so much better now. lol I know how you feel. I am having some shader problems myself. Stupid things.

06-10-2002, 01:18 PM
Hehehe, I know how you feel! Believe me. Anyway I think you are almost there, the fact that the drape glows means you have a messed up lightmap. (don't believe all the errors that shadered gives). Try adding these lines2 (* minus the * :)) like this...

qer_editorimage blablabla and the rest

That should make your drape invisible...

Then you can't see the drape texture so either your alpha channel covers the whole drape making it invisible, or either one of the 2 stages uses the wrong map. One stage is the drape, the other stage is the transparency (don't remember order). In the third(I think) tab of shadered you have your maps those are the ones that need to be tweaked for the right stage. I am on a laptop now so I don't know, but has soon has I get home I will try too. You *beeped* and *beeped* so you can't quit, you need to make it work :)

You can also post a thread in the Mapping or Modelling or General editing that goes like this.

Someone pastes me the shader script to make this thing work

06-10-2002, 01:35 PM
hmm I think the first reply on this thread here might be what you are looking for: http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60680

06-10-2002, 08:31 PM
I hope you get that shader working HapSlash, I'm very eager to get the model wrapped up and released :)

06-11-2002, 01:27 AM
I also posted on the other forun.

I have tryied this and it works... just change the names and make sure you have yout TGA correct. don't use shadered for now.

qer_editorimage models/players/sirrya/sirrya_drape
map models/players/sirrya/sirrya_drape
alphaFunc LT128

MAKE sure you have your tga correct! The first time I did this photoshop dind't save the alpha channel correct. Make sure all of your channel are visible when you save, including the ALPHA channel. I don't remember wath is transparent, black or white. I black (shaded red in photoshop) ingame, but could be the opposite.

06-11-2002, 02:30 AM
Posted this new stuff in the modelling forum, but I thought I'd post here too :) If you're interested in her backstory, hop on over to the Aayla thread in the Modelling forum.

And I've updated Lenya's face, http://windu.cjb.net/LenyaVanuaFace.jpg

06-11-2002, 03:58 AM
The best one yet! Only thing that clashes a little are those red dots, if they are Gems make them shinnier.

06-11-2002, 04:42 AM

I had already banged my head against the wall repeatedly, and was getting ready to shove it through a plate glass window when I finnaly did it.

I had tried creating the alpha channel in photoshop dozens of times, following the tutorials and such strictly to the letter, and nothing worked.

Needless to say this frustrated the hell outta me.

Then I stumbled apon something so simple it was mind boggling,... All I had to do was open the image in Micrografx select what i didn't want to show up with a mask, and save it. No alpha channel bullcrap, no changing unwanted areas to the color black, nothing.

This just reiterates my feelings on image editors. Photoshop, quite simply,... sucks. Nothing beats Micrografx, it's the easiest most user-friendly editor I've ever come accross. And it's fairly cheep too.

Guess that just means you Nano,... thanks! If it wasn't for you I'd either be pulling shards of glass out of my head or pickin' my brains up with a mop.

and also thanks to Cmdr. Antilles and Darkhold X for at least trying.

06-11-2002, 04:56 AM
No problem:). I think too that photoshop6 is too hard to use, there is too much useless crap with it the best one was photoshop4, but it didn't have undo history.... I should try out micrografx... Well Happy that you got the shader right. It's going to be a great skinpack.

BTW, it's shamefull that NO ONE ever helps out anyone. I don't understand this.

PS Alpha channel is when you want shades of transparencies.

06-11-2002, 05:02 AM
And here she is in game, It's not the best looking, I'm only running at 640x480 with low texture quality.

My computer needs a refit.

The game really butchers the textures, at least on my settings, I'm going to try to see if i can get some better screencaps from Infinity's machine.

06-11-2002, 06:06 AM
Holy! That's one helluva (if I may say so) sexay skin!!

Uber-Work my friend ;)

06-11-2002, 01:36 PM
Very nice Bradfu, very nice. Love the face. But you should either make her more "naked" or more "covered", like this she is neither I think it is more "elegant" to chose one distinct "fashion".

Hapslash, thumbs up as always on your work.

06-11-2002, 02:57 PM
Bradfu and HapSlash's skin is lookin sweet. Grafox skin is lookin good too, although I don't care much for the head tails.

You all are doing great jobs. I wish I could make a Twi'Lek skin, but I'm not good at faces yet.

06-12-2002, 04:06 PM
Hey Hapslash, I'd have helped and all if I had any idea how. But I don't know anything about modelling, skinning nor do I have Photoshop or Micrografx. Sorry. :(

06-14-2002, 04:39 AM

WTG HapSlash!!! Outstanding work! My favorite thus far!!!! :)

06-17-2002, 05:55 AM
One question...
When will this skin pack be released?

DJ Raynor
06-17-2002, 11:35 PM
OK first off. Props to you all. I can't do any of this stuff so i have mad respect for all of you. And second i too would liket o know when this skin pack is coming out.

06-18-2002, 02:41 AM
It might come out today or in the next few days...

06-18-2002, 04:15 PM
How can I say what so many others have already said? This is a terrific model and fabulous skins. Everyone involved has really turned out some quality girls here. Thank you for your fine work and releasing them.

Very worthy downloads!

06-18-2002, 11:50 PM
sexy skin Hapslash, mmmm nice job... :amidala:

06-19-2002, 10:30 PM
This little skin made from HapSlash's skin and off the Aayla face...I didn't do a whole lot of modification besides making the skin blue, doing a little darkening in areas and highlighting and tearing the drapea bit. http://intrepidakp.homestead.com/files/layingside_copy.jpg
More of a learning experience(never skinned anything) then any work of art, because most of it was there.

06-19-2002, 10:33 PM
hehe, love the first pose.

06-20-2002, 06:49 AM
Release that baby! i really like that skin!

06-20-2002, 08:37 PM
What ya think about this EP2 Aayla skin ???

06-20-2002, 09:49 PM
did you play with the face? it looks great, big improvement. but the abs still look gross, maybe soften them up a bit, especially around the outside. good work

06-20-2002, 10:29 PM
That does look good Alien....but he is right...the abs are too much...give her that flatboard stomach look instead of the guyish abs.

06-20-2002, 11:31 PM
AlienJL, no offense bu somehow the face still doesn't really look like Amy Allen's in EP II.

Here's a good pic of her in full make-up:

Mhh .. what a babe. :D

06-20-2002, 11:34 PM
Final Version: Of my blue dancer

Amy Allen, is that her name...anybody have a picture of her minus the make-up...she still looks hot with blue make-up, but I'm curious what she really looks like.

06-20-2002, 11:39 PM
Somewhat nice and somewhat disturbing. It look's too much like aayla, but it's not in her stile to go around like that. If you change her lekku it would look nicer. The lekku is exactly the same, not good effect.

06-21-2002, 02:25 AM
I too don't think Aayla Secura would go around like that, she'd chop you up with her lightsaber before she'd wear that outfit. :p ;) j/k

You can get the full story on Aayla Secura/Amy Allen here, with some nice quality pics, also of Amy without Aayla outfit/make-up :

06-21-2002, 03:59 AM
I think people would have said the same thing about Leia before RotJ....anyways, maybe she is undercover for the jedi council or something...use a little imagination.

06-21-2002, 04:57 AM
Trust me, my imagination is pretty busy and trained on Aayla Secura/Amy Allen. ;)

j/k :D :p

06-21-2002, 06:10 AM
Alien_Jl, just saw the updated abs, incredible.
some things to think about:
maybe create deeper shadows on her face to even better match the picture (http://www.starwars.com/episode-ii/feature/20020618/index_10.html) agentsmith provided (cheek bones and such) but dont go overboard, what you have already is very close. her cheek bones seem to be out and under her eyes, and there isnt much muscle to make a big shadow between the sides of mouth and cheek, it seems to be more shadowy between the jaw line and cheek bones than the mouth and cheeck bones. and make the mouth opening a hair lower cause while her lips are that wide together, the bottom one isnt that much bigger than the top. also, her eyebrows seem to be a tad bit thicker near the nose, then taper quickly 1/3 of the way down like in the picture. her chin is pointier too, use shadows to create the illusion of that. your on your way to near perfection, part of the problem will be in the model itself, but work with what you got, great work.

- Klorel

Flawless conclusion.... except for one thing. Leia was no Jedi.:)

Aayla would whoop jabba's ass thrice before wearing see thru lingerie. ;)

06-21-2002, 07:10 AM
Aaaaactually... in the latest Star Wars Ongoing, Aayla is posing as a slave girl on Ryloth doing some undercover work, so you're wrong if you think she wouldn't wear something like that <G> I can't remember off the top of my head what exactly she is wearing, but I'm sure it was at least somewhat skimpy. I'll see if I can get a good scan when I get home.

06-21-2002, 10:36 AM
maybe she was wearing this

This is Star Wars #42

I can't get Star Wars #42 Rite of Passage 1 yet cause it's not sold at tfaw.com yet! :(

(And off course not a sinlge bookstore in this godforsaken country has it! :( )

I'm depressed now. I feel handicapped. :( Nobody feels like buying it and sending it to me by any chance? :p

I'm still waiting for the Twilight TPB I ordered. :( Bloody thing hasn't arrived yet. :(
