EDIT 3: Sorry for the lack of updates guys!! My friend almost has the vader skin complete, although the arms and legs still need texure mapping. Here's some updated pics of what I have so far.

Well, the pictures are a little dark, but it looks good to me. Of course, you realize that there already is a Vader model out there. :D The more the better, I guess.

Looking really really good. :vsd:

06-02-2002, 01:21 PM
looks like it will turn out to be the best one yet! let me know when and where it will bw available if you don't mind. Thanks E-mail cronpa69@yahoo.com

06-02-2002, 04:01 PM
Looks great. You'll definately need to make LOD models though

06-02-2002, 04:06 PM

It looks great! The only problem I can think of is when he is running in the game won't his foot go through the cape? You might want to move the cape back a bit more just so that doesn't happen or to lessen the effect.

06-02-2002, 05:45 PM
Oobedoob, I was going to make custom animations for it, and also animate the cape(s) so they actually move like a capes. So when he runs the inner cape should stay behind him. (If all goes according to plan) :)

06-02-2002, 06:23 PM
You have softimage? DAMN! This is gonna kick sithlord's model's ass if you get a good skin!

06-02-2002, 09:14 PM
OMG that is awesome if you can get the animations to work this will definitely be the best model out there for JK2!!! Hope you can get it to work!

06-02-2002, 09:46 PM
yes, I'll be using softimage to animate it. I'll try my best, I definitely didn't want to use the default jk2 animations, or there'd be no point in making this model. My friend and I are also working on dark helmet from spaceballs :) I'll post a screenshot of that also.

06-02-2002, 11:35 PM
Wow, this really IS going to kick the current Vader's metal patoot...

06-03-2002, 01:37 AM
Wow, if you're gonna make custom animations, this model is definitely gonna be better.

06-03-2002, 02:26 AM
Wow...do you really have softimage and know how to use it? The people on the yoda model thread could certainly use your help then.

06-03-2002, 03:42 AM
looks great, man
let us all know how that works out for the custom anims

WoooHoooo! Dark Helmet! Go Nls!

06-04-2002, 03:21 AM
hey you all need to watch yourselves. You even have a Vader model right now because of Sith. Keep in mind that his was one of the first models released for jk2, period. it was a learning process for him.

All nls did to do is read a tutorial and ask some questions, but Sithlord was one of the ones who actually deciphered the process of getting these models in-game. We know how to put models into JK2 because of work and experimentation he did.

This model is turning out very nicely, but do not disrespect the amount of effort and time Sithlord put into creating his model for the community. If not for him, you wouldn't have ANY Vader to play with yet.

So stop with the "this is gonna kick the current model's ass" crap. Its ridiculous and childish, since even nls turned to Sithlord at one point or another for help.

06-04-2002, 04:20 AM
Hmmm...must be that time of month... :D

06-04-2002, 04:30 AM
I'm totally behind you on that one, Absath but I also think its not 'cool' to knock people for making another model even if one has allready be released. I use SithLords and I thinks its a sweet model, and I'm very thankfull, because with out the peps on this forum who model/skin/anamate/code/lvl design, the game would die.

06-04-2002, 04:43 AM
heh well i came back in and saw that post from abs -
i do agree with alot of what was said, but i dont feel that way about NLS/kartoon - he's working away at it on his own, nonetheless, he and i have been in touch, and i am glad to help out others when i can, but he also helped me out in the creation of my vader. I could have used his helmet as well, which was, really, a more faithful rendition of vader's helm but i wanted to try and have as much of the model to be my own work as possible.
NLS hasn't just read a tutorial, though, he has been working on this stuff as long as i have almost, not sure about what he's picked up on the importation process, as i haven't been in touch with him in a while - if he can in fact create his own animations that will be a *BIG* contribution to the community. I will definitely be first in line to get my hands on a tutorial or otherwise for that one.
but anyways, i know there will be comparisons between models based on the same character (IE. after these, the multitude of Vaders, Fetts, etc that we will be seeing eventually), but regardless i would prefer not to hear "THAT MODEL SUCKS" or "THAT ONE KICKS THE OTHER'S ASS", regardless of which is better, because i know mine is!!
all in good spirit, guys, i'd like for our little modeling community here to be on the level and willing to share, it will help us all get better at what we are doing

Just wondering, if everything goes smoothly when do you think he will be released?

keep up the great work :)

wut r u talkngi about, darh vader doesnt run, lol. im gonna be holding don shift the hwhole time i use this model

06-05-2002, 02:04 AM
This is why people don't make multiples of the same character. Modeling is a long process and most end up fine because of feedback. Thus, making multiple models of the same character is a waste of time for the fans. And yes, I know I sound like a complete ass.

06-05-2002, 04:33 AM
Different versions of the same model allow for different perspectives. This way, if someone didn't like one, they could get the other and vice versa.

06-05-2002, 04:34 AM
this was already in progress
if someone can build a better model then currently out, go ahead

06-06-2002, 12:37 AM
Absath your out of line on this allow other people to share teh spotlike.. your acting like a over protective mother making sure everyone knows her little boy is the star

06-06-2002, 01:58 AM
lol gonk. i didnt tell him not to make his model. i didnt tell people not praise his model, because it is turning out rather nicely. i told people it wasnt fair to bash someone else's model, just because they like another one better.

and you're just jealous cause your mother knew you would never be the star of anything, and didnt bother to be overprotective. get lost goat-raper. i mean gonk-raider. sorry.

06-06-2002, 02:21 AM
Bah, I wont continue this any further because im a fan of your work :P

06-09-2002, 01:13 PM
Hey any progress on the model or animations?

06-09-2002, 03:48 PM
yes, i'm still workin on it. Updated a few things on the model, I was going to start uvw mapping it now, and maybe have my friend skin it. Then comes the custom animations :)

06-09-2002, 11:31 PM
Who needs a skin, looks fine to me

06-09-2002, 11:38 PM
Cool. I hope you get to the animations part soon, it sounds very interesting. Also I don't know if someone has contacted you yet but I think the people doing the yoda model could use your help with you having softimage to get yoda in MP.

06-09-2002, 11:45 PM
Hey, NLS, I was just thinking. Since there are already too good Vader skins out there that are awsome but slightly stylized. Why dont you have this Vader be done up like as realistic as possible. Anyway, just a suggestion.

06-10-2002, 12:26 AM
So, how are you going to export the animations from SoftImage?

DaJo Kesea
06-10-2002, 02:48 AM

Fabulous! Absolutely beautiful model of Darth Vader!

Would you mind checking on something though? I could be wrong, but I think the base of the helm slopes downward at a steeper angle, so that the back is nearly touching the cape.

I love it, nls. I really do. And if you are going to give Vader some custom animations, this will be mind boggling. But even if it doesn't work out, you still have a killer model I'll be sure to add to my lineup.

06-10-2002, 05:20 AM
this model is awesome, is the size of the model same as all others?cuz vader is like 6'9 so he should be towering over people, is he gonna be taller?thats gotta be a must after that animation.cuz u do want to make it as acurate as possible since there already is another vader model.is he also gonna be really shinny looking?cuz he was bling bling'n in all the movies. o and are you going to use the same taunts and such and make a sp version of him like the other vader model??
id apreciate it if u replied to my post. thnx

06-10-2002, 06:12 AM
Veerryy niice... That model is so good it's almost scary. And if that wasn't enough... When reding about the animations I was like :eyeraise:

Good luck to you on this project. Custom animations would be another huge leap for the community, just like getting custom models into the game was. Maybe that could push others to reach for those akimbo sabers and lightstaffs 'n stuff.

06-10-2002, 12:21 PM
MP models are standardized, so Vader will be the same size as everyone else. In SP its a different story......

06-10-2002, 04:30 PM
i thought the height issue was already talked to death about

06-10-2002, 04:33 PM
What about the new Yoda model?

Oobedoob Benobi
06-12-2002, 02:20 PM
I heard there might be a way to fix the height problem with Softimage.

06-13-2002, 02:38 AM
Impressive... most impressive.

You've done well.

06-19-2002, 02:06 AM
Must... not... let... great model... be forgotten... *BUMP!* Ahh... My... work here is... done... (makes gurgling sound while dying).

06-29-2002, 06:53 AM
dude did this model die....cuz this and anakin and yoda are the only ones i want....i really really want this one too....the other vader one is great......but theres so much more that can be done to make it greater...and i see it all in this one....and second...the yoda model has done the so called "impossible"and it now solved the height issue in mp. dude this means you can make vader taller. since he was nearly 7 foot. and didnt you say you were gonna add animations to the cape and stuff?if so, is that why you havent been heard from?been working hard?id love an update...VADER KICKS ASS.period

06-29-2002, 02:43 PM
Sorry for the lack of updates guys!! My friend almost has the vader skin complete, although the arms and legs still need texure mapping. Here's some updated pics of what I have so far.

and LOL @ t-dogg :)

06-29-2002, 03:14 PM
dude the pics are dark but, what i could see.....looked awesome.....thanks for the update bro

06-30-2002, 05:28 AM
looks very good!!!!!!

06-30-2002, 02:15 PM
This deserves being on JKII.net's news section.

It takes my breath away... it beats the Dooku model in sheer quality. Lovely.

06-30-2002, 02:22 PM
btw just wanted to add that tchouky has created a mod that allows you to scale models in MP. It's going to be released with Yoda when they finish him. Go over to the coding board and you can get a copy of his source/cfg for it in the mean-time. So scaling vader, desaan, yoda, chewie, and other players will be no problem.

06-30-2002, 04:32 PM
Hej!, It really looks great keep up the work.
And one more thing, when you are done can you post it to me axelmulder@yahoo.com please.

06-30-2002, 07:37 PM
heya, ihate to be the moaning type, (which i normally arent) but the helmet and face, it rules to bits, but could you make his face more visable, im not moaning, its your model and how it looks now is fine, im currently trying to make a qui-gon-jinn model, but wiv milkshape, and its expired damn b**tard, but if i can i get it posted up here wen its dun, and its my first model, but not to be finished for a loooong time really, great work tho, keep it up, if the animations go well it would be best to share it around, plus ull get praised major time probably, good job here from u soon mayb, craig xx
