you don't need the cgame.zip or game.zip if you are not a coder ...
it s the sourcecode...

you just hace to download the tck.zip

and unzip it in the Gamedata\base folder
run the game and goto the setup and mod sevtion ....

create your game and then in game type these cvar (it s explained in the readme..)

tck_saberred x
tck_sabergreen x
tck_saberblue x

where x is the value you want for this color
it s between 0 and 255

you can create all the colors you want with these cvar (well we can t create black but)
for example a dark bblue would be

red 0
green 0
blue 80

or dark purple
red 75
green 0
blue 150

you can try and get the color you want ....

It's really great. Y'know I was trying to do something like that myself, but you were faster, and you have more experience in programming. What else should I say than "Couldn't have done it better" :) That was exactly what I was hoping for. The sprites are ok, but I am a "picture gyu" and I just HAVE to lay a hand on them, experimenting with them and try to make better ones. That doesn't mean yours are bad.
And there's something I want to discuss here. The width of the sabers. If I want to have a white saber I have to set all values the same. So white is possible from 1 1 1 to 255 255 255, the lower the value the thinner the saberblade. When I set all on 255 the blade is much to big, 1 and it's just a thin line. This is good to have different sabers, but what is the default value for this? E.g. if I want a white saber that is as thin as the normal original saberblades.
Did you find out anything about that?

well indeed the width doesn't change only the intensity of the colors....
when it s 1 1 1 the trail is so transluent that it doesn t show up and 255 is horrible ....
when i play with a white saber i put 50 or 75 ...
75 is good
Now you can have a REAL Corran Horn ;) (to go along with your skin)
i told you a long time ago (1-2 months) that i was going to create a mod like this remember ???

for the sprites if you want to change them go ahead no problem ...
i ll put yours if they are better (should be ...lol)
(yeah i know i should practice my photoshops skills ...)
just go in the pk3 and find the sabers....
they are 3 jpg....
1 is the core white ...
which will be loaded as it is (no modification)
the 2 others are loaded with the rgb parameters ...
and must be in black and white only ....

by the way it s open source so if you want to know how i did it ....
(i ll write a tutorial when i m done with it so others mod could add it ...)

Well somehow this does not work for me. I always get a white trail no matter which rgb colors I use. Besides that the saber itself maintains the color of origin.

Can you tell me what I did wrong?

Thx Tchouky. intensity 75 is indeed good looking. I already downloaded the code, and sure I remember that you told me you would do this mod. That was the time when I thought "fheew, somebody else is doing it, I can stay with making textures and sprites" ;) I just love paintng, so I will see if I can improve the sabers.
And I already found them in the pk3.
After you added a menu for the sabers are you interested in helping me make a menu for saber hilts and change the code, so that people can choose their saberhilts like the playermodels?
I made some HUD images for a lot of sabers and there are loads of good saber hilt models, so this would be cool.

yeah shoudn't be too dificult ....

actually i m working on the player ui ....so we could change the rgb values from a menu ...
but everything *should* work but the cvar isn't modified so ....
i guess there is a mistake somewhere...

firts make sure that tck_saber = 1
by typing :
tck_saber 1


well if you have a white saber that s a start !
the mod is loaded ....
now press dhift and ~ to bring down the console and type :
tck_saberred 150

when you typed tck_
press the tab key ....and
tck_saber will replace it ...add a 'r'
and repress tab ...
this way the cvar will be written exactly how it is supposed to be...
and then write 150 and press enter ...

should work ...
the saber should be like red-pink ...

Love the mod...but its kinda wiggin' out on me. Whenever I enable tck_sabers and enter my custom coloring...the saber core appears with a bunch of black boxes all around it and it looks all funktified. Any possible causes.

I installed this mod like any other. Any help would be awesome. Thanks

well this kind of bug only happens when you try to load a sprite or a shader that the program can't find so there must be a problem with the pk3 ....

try to redownload it ...

well what do you call 'i did like for the other mods...'
do you mean you put the pk3 in the \base
because you MUSTN T DO that !!
unzip it in the gamedata folder so it should create a folder called
tck in your GAMEDATA\tck
so in gamedata you should see 2 directories ....
base and tck ....
and to load the mod either go to SETUP load tck
or create a shortcut with jk2mp.exe +set fs_game tck

sorry the package isn't great and i didn't put the information ....

Hm, putting the pk3 in the base folder works fine for me. I just added "set tck_saber 1" to my autoexec and there are no problems.
So what could go wrong this way, when you say "you MUSTN T DO that !!"?
Shall I extract the files?

well it shouldn't work that way but ....
anyway redownload it there is a small gui !!
very small but ... you don't have to use the console anymore.

extract everything in the GAMEDATA folder and start the mod with the .bat provided ....

the gui is when you are ingame not the setup screen; INGAME !
when connected ...
then press esc and select player and you wil see 3 small boxes R G and B ...

et voila !

If all of you guys install it corectly :
ie dezipping in the GAMEDATA folder and start it with the .bat !
YES everyone will see the other's color !

(i had to change many things for that to work but ....)

BUT now i have to display a previsualisation and that's not easy .....

i ve updated the ftp and you can try the r g b slidebars.....
hope you'll like them ....

when you are in game or at the main menu goto :
=>SETUP
and to
=>TCK SABER MOD

yo will see 3 slidebars ....

yeah i know no visualisation of the color yet...
but when you are ingame you only have to pres ESC and change the colors and press ESC again so it shouldn't be that hard .......

I noticed that every time you leave the player selection menu ingame you get a "tck RED" displayed from the console.
Ok, and now something for the sabers. I tried some values, and I think the glow looks best when the sum of all 3 values is around 255. Just want to mention it here for those of you who think the saber is too colorful.
And I am currently testing some different sprites, so that the saber is looking a little bit more like the original one, and maybe I make them after the image from my anakin poster.
I'll post some pics when I think it looks good.

the tck red in the console was for debug soryy
i removed it ....
for the rgb values you are right ...
and as soon as you give me a good sprite i will replace mine with it no problems

make sure to redownload i added slidebars ....

The sliding bars are ok. Are you still working on a color preview field?
I also have some suggestions, I think it should be possible to implement them.
1. The sum of the RGB values should be always 255, so the sabers' glows are not too colorful or nearly gone.
So when I make it more red blue and green are automatically reduced.
You could make a checkbox next to the sliding bars, so that a colorvalue can be frozen, so that only the last two colors can be changed. Hope you know what I mean. It's just that it's easier to select the coler when the sum is 255.
2. I would like the value still be shown in the menu.

I know the first part is not easy, but the sabers would look better if the glow is not too intensive.

This is lots of criticism for a gyu who could not make this himself (maybe one day - still learning ;) ), hope you know that it's just to make the mod perfect.

for the n 1 well it s going to be really hard because the sliding bars are not controled by the code itself but by the .menu and
the best you can do would be a check when the user leave the menu or make him click on a button to update ...
and i don't really want to do that now ...
i m trying to have a visualisation boxe first and then i ll do n2
that shouldn't be too difficult ....

I am very to say that, but it still does not work. I did exactly what you said, though I do not consider me to be a console n00b ;). No matter which values I enter, I only get a white trail and the saber itsself remains the same color...
I even removed any saber modifications I had installed, with no effect...

well redownload ... extract to GAMEDATA and then start
the .bat in gamedata\tck

now there is a user interface ...
goto setup and TCK MOD
and there are 3 slidebars

unless the SP SDK is released .....

It should work ...it s working for many persons.....
well maybe you should uninstall JK2 and reinstall it ....
(version 1.03 only i forgot ! but i don't think that s the problem)

i don't know why it doesn't work .....
because if you did everything well ( you must have cause you have the sliding bars...) it should work flawlessly .


no need to say you can't play online unless if the server has the mod loaded.....

and what about the bots sabers?????
try with dessan tavion luke shadowtrooper jedi and jedi trainer
they have custom sabers !

AND a last thing for everyone THE PREVISUALISATION works !!
it has been a pain in the ass to get it working but it s almost ready ...
just wait 1 or 2 hours ...

I posted this on your other thread that's...uh...exactly the same, in the coding forum, so I'm not sure if you got to see it, or what your thoughts are on it:

When you get close to other players, the saber gets more "intense." That is, it gets brighter, and thicker...then goes back to normal when you're away from all players (not sure how close you need to be yet, exactly.)

Is it doing this for anyone else, and do you (Tchouky, or anyone else for that matter I suppose) have any ideas on what's causing it/how to fix it?

Other than that small detail, the patch is rad, Tchouky...great work. :)

i ll check that intesity stuff.
and for the patch it s not the last one ...

i made a boxe in the setup to see the color of the saber ..
it s not perfect (and won't be because of some stuff in the q3 engine)
but you can have a pretty much good idea of how your saber will look ...
and you can see on the right the rg and b values written...
wich you can also modify by hand....

Well I also don't know whats wrong... and of course I joined a mod server. I play on mod servers almost the whole time so this isn't the problem ;) The bots sabers don't work either... fortunately it is not completely useless for me, I can still have a white saber with your old tck saber mod :D

well you should try one thing :


proper instalation ie :
unzip in
gamedata\

then
you should have a directory tck in gamedata.

run the tck.bat

then create a game with bots create DON'T join another game!!!
put desann tavion and jedi_trainer in the game .

then when you are ingame goto setup and change the rgb colors with the slidebars...

and if it s not working then you're totally doomed (maybe only your computer ..or both)


By the way the new version is near from release and the menu is way much better !!!

You said you weren't having my intense-saber problem, so I took some pics just to show you what I mean...

The first is with no bots in the vicinity (in this case, no bots at all, but it does this either way)

And the second picture is with a bot (this one's Desann, but again, it doesn't matter.)

See, it's nt really a gameplay problem, I can live with it, but it's kind of annoying cosmetically...

BTW, this is with your newest version (RGB numbers and slider=genius) installed the exact way you explain the readme, with batch file and everything.

This is the ONLY flaw in this mod...other than this, it's perfect/rad....and I've said it before, but I'll say it again: Great work.

Sweet man! lan party this weekend, and i passed it out. will be cool if a pomel mod to select seperate ones came out, but i am happy with the saber. it was my main thing :)

oh yeah, the slidebars and preview window look good, only idea is make the preview window do a blade shape (like the pic used in Gfx) and show it as close as it can on it. only wish to figure out the black saber, i am looking at the code myself:)

well i tried and it happens only when the first bot join the game
because some cvar and informations about your saber's color are only updated when there is a communication betwen the server and the client (so when they are more than 1 client or fake client = BOT so when they are 2 persons on a map)....
so basically add a bot and put your saber colors after ....
It should work ....
you shouldn't have any problems after ....

beacuse the sp sdk isn't released and will never be ....


So you can forgett ALL SP mods !!!

except replacement models and new maps but we can't call this a mod .....

there is no room for the sliding bars and the other info there ...

sorry i m not sily enought to want to recreate the menu entirely .....

(creating menus are very very anoying .....)

I downloaded it, installed it into "gamedata" and ran the batch file but it comes up eith this error:

"recursive error after: User Interface is version 7, expected 6"

this also happen if i select tck from the "mods" screen.
do you have any idea why?

The slider bars ARE accessible ingame when you hit ESC. It's under setup, not player config. Anyway, this mod kicks major ass, man, good work.

Alright, after extensive testing (playing) I've come to the realization that the "puffer saber" effect actually doesn't have anything to do with bots, or their vicinity.

It happens when certain objects (I haven't determined what, yet, it's not just pickups and bots, but those are included) are in the view of the player.

Try playing a level like "Temple Tournament" or "Star Destroyer," and just run around with no bots...

And I took your advice, and set up all my saber info and stuff before the game, then when that didn't work-during the game, and still...to no avail.

But otherwise, I think all the menues are great, and the visualization thing is fine...(though maybe if it wasn't transparent it would be more accurate...?)

Anyway, you're doing an excellent job!

i don't know if you already downloaded it because it was available since 6 hours on my ftp but here it is :

new menu the old saber selection won't show up if the customs sabers are ON and the sliding bars won't if it's off...

and there is a new server command :

g_enabledoublesaber 1

that allows the players to have the double bladed saber without cheats....

Well, reinstalling does not work, I also do not own a warez version. Why shouldn't I support them for creating such an asskicking game? :D

But thanks anyway,with your mod I can finally use a white saber. And if I think about it I never wanted more than just a plain white saber, so thanks again Mr Tchouky, it was really worth the effort!

Hm... something very strange happened. When I reinstalled you newest version, it worked perfectly for my saber on my own server. The bots still had their own sabers. But when I tried it on an online server, where I can use custom skins and other modifications it did not work at all... hum... no I am really confused. :D

And btw. the preview bar is very close to the color, the saber will have...

if the server hasn't the mod (MY MOD)
you can't use it ....
well it like if you wanted to play counter-strike on a halflife only server ......

it 's a REAL mod ! you can't combine it with the others.....

if an online server actually donwload and install the mod you will be able to connect the server and have your sabers.....
but also all the non mod user won't be able to connect ....

But fighting bots sucks, they are way too dumb, I prefer to own online servers :D

As on of your older versions lets me have a white sabertrail I can replace the sprites of a saber and have a white saber on a server, that does not use the mod, cool heh? :D

So I think thats's even more asskicking than having a pink saber in a bot game... :D

Wow! This mod is really great! I was trying to do this also. Would it be ok if I were to implement the source code into my mod, JK2: The Fan's Version.

One improvement could be to make your new gui where the old saber color selection was. Make it easier for newbs and easier to get to.

I've tried typing in the g_enabledoublesaber 1 and g_botdoublesaber 1 and nothing seems to happen. Why doesn't the bots get their doublesided lightsabers? Is it only the original models that can use the doublesided lightsabers or is their something special you have to do for custom skins your download?

From looking at the code it should work for all models/skins.
NOTE: I am not the creator
Try just typing g_botdoublesaber to see if it recognizes the command.
Make sure you are running the mod first of all.

I also noticed that the bots double sabers dont work when the map switches after a vote or a reached limit. :confused:

As you did such a fine job with this mod i was wondering if you could answer a question of mine. At the moment it is not possible to have different saber models running in the same game however would it be possible to create an in game menu (simmilar to the one for your mod) which would allow you to select your model out of ones you have in a "saber model" folder, then have your selected model pk3 file moved into the "base" folder? Next time you select a different model the mod will remove your previous saber pk3 file from the base folder, put it back in the "saber model" folder and replace it with your new choice.

I think this would be a great mod and it seems like quite a simple idea but i dont have a clue about how to go about making it. I dont spose you could tell me how or better still make it yourself and incorporate it into your next version of your mod. :)

I'm positive about the map change:

just tried ffa on bespinstreets (doublesabersok) and then voted to change the map to the death star and after the change desann had decided not no utilise the full power of his dual lightsaber :)

About the mod idea I was thinking more of a file moving system for people who play offline against bots or maybe those who play on a LAN with people who have access to the same files rather than a mod to send the models to a server. Is this possible? :)

someone else has started making a hilt mod to let you choose your hilt, but it will be allot slower cause there isn't already a selection, saber colors were easier, cause there was the ability to cange them already. just have some patience

you musn't know really well the code (nor programmation) to say that !

the selection of the saber or the hilt is done in the user interface and the menu are very easy to create you can really easily create a hilt selector ! (the menus are done with scripting open a .menu file for example...not with the code)

the problem is not here at all !

the problem is deeper in the code , being able to select wich saber is being drawn for each clients!

you must comunicate the hilt model between the server and the client .
you must check if the client has the model and if not change it to the default one .....

etc there are many things to change !

btw can you give me the mail adress or the nick name of that guy trying to make a hilt mod ! thx

THIS IS WHY I HATE USING MODS !!!!!!!!!!

I was on my server with the mod on and i was fighting some bots and when i tryed to spin when i did backslash i couldnt !!! now before i thought this was only in some saber mods because the creator thought that the move was cheap so he stoped it but now i realize its not some mods its all of em !!! now if its just me and no one else plz stop me from going on.....but if it isnt then plz make the mod without this "problem", other than that i LOVE your mod. I think its the best saber mod out there :D

addition : New extendable blade like corran horn's or gantorris' ones.

new cvar : g_enableextended 1 or 0 .

if you want an extended blade then bind a key to tck_dualphase like this :

bind h tck_dualphase

by default it s bound to k.

dezip it in the gamedata folder as usual.

i ll update the source code tomorrow ....

the guy who is working on it mentioned it earlier in this, page 1, i forget the name right now. and it is a bit more complicated than the saber blades cause the game was setup already to handle different ones of them, the hilts were in the code as all the same file. i just wored it wrong, what i ment is it would be a bit harder for the guy

The expandable blade is superb. I wrote a script that changes the white blade to purple when the second phase is activated. Like Corran's saber.
But I need the source code, so I can add my white saber or add your work to my small mod. Hope you still make this open source.

that s done . you only need to redownload the game.zip and the cgame.zip
cause the ui didn't change.
i ll add the extended button in the menu next time for all of you who can't bind a key :)

i ll check for the jedi vers mercs bug.
and i l create a small file with the console commands and cvar.
here it is :

tck_sabergreen x
tck_saberblue x

rgb values of you saber. (you can use the menu).

tck_dualphase is a command to toggle your extended blade.
so you must bind it to a key.
like this
bind g tck_dualphase

tck_saber 1 or 0 controls if you want or no to display the custom sabers.

and server variables

g_enableextended 1 or 0 => enables extended sabers.
g_enabledoublesaber 1 or 0 => enables the double bladed sabers to clients.
g_botdoublesaber 1 or 0 => double saber for the bots.

AND DON'T USE THESE CVARS
ui_saberred
ui_sabergreen
ui_saberblue.
if you do it will just change the color in the menu and will not be updated until you gi inside the menu.

tck_extended is used by the game and automatically set by the tck_dualphase command.

I ve created cvar, and communication between server and clients to add a second color.
So now you can have a double bladed saber with diferent color blades :D

and it s also the color of your extended saber (there is a fading effect....)
ie if your saber n1 color is blue and the second is red
when you extended the blade of your saber,when the saber is growing it will be blue->blue purle-> purple->red purlpe -> red ..
it s quite cool actually..
(you don't need any script now Garik :) )

i have some more things to code but everything is working i ll maybe post screenshots...

and i still have to create a menu..

I'ne sent you an e-mail because I have a problem with the extending saber, the sound is there but the blade doesn't change length. I used your code, so I thought you would know where to look in my code, I could not find the error.
So I've sent my code to you in the e-mail with the problem, so you can take a qucik look at it, and you'll see immediately "ah, this guy forgot this and that"

For the saber it is the following: I used the saber with the original code and with your RGB, and with your code every saber is shorter than the original, don't know why.
But i can still try to improve the saber sprites if you like, this is something I am really good in.

Ok, the next lot of people want is a selector for the saber hilt.
The next thing Luuke wants ;) is the possibility to activate the second blade when the first blade is activated.
I tried this, but I got some strange things with the animation or the whole prog crashed.
And one last idea I read about is to add stances 4 and 5, not just replacing the old.
Hmm, I will find something else when I think about it any longer. :)

Hmm, I think there were no other saber variants. I've read nearly all novels, only the novels that are available in german, but I think that are all. There were characters that had 2 lightsabers, but that's another problem, animations and so. And there were force activated sabers, but that's no difference.
Hm, I've read on an website that there is a young jedi in one of rhe books that will come that has some sort of saber with infrared waves, that is nearly invisible, and that emits heat, so that the character can't use it all the time, and has to reduce the intensity, and then the saber is visible in pure red, no core.
I'll go search the web and find the link, so you can read it.

edit: It was no book, it was a character from a RPG. So it's no kind of official, but if you like to read it anyway it's at

I was wondering is there any way to have the same color on both blades (when double blade is out) when its not extended and then press the button and both blades change(instead of having 1 blue and 1 red when not extended)?

I love the color change for the extended blade, for the dualblade I think it would be better to have the same color for both blades.
From pragrammer's point of view it is again a good job.

Have you thought making it possible to activate the second blade when the first is activated?
This would mean we need a command that let's the player take the animation status he has when the saber is deactvated, but the blade is still on. Then maybe the second blade can be activated without deactivating the saber first. What do you think?

dood, sweet mod. i love the dual colors. i have a blue and red (light and dark side) and i was wondering if there is any way to change where the second blade came out of. cause to get darth mauls saber right, it would be 2x the size, but if you model that, it comes out middle of the hilt. can you think of anything? maybe look for tag_flash2 for it?

The motion blur on the second blade of the dual saber is the same color as the first even if they are set as different colors.

I am continuing my campaign to get the hidden saber stances included :)

I also reckon you should have seperate commands used to active and deactivate the two different blades on the dual saber. This would mean you could activate the original blade then activate the second without deactivating the first. You could also deactivate the first and just fight with the secondary blade!!

yep just open the bots.txt
and edit it !
look for luke and set the right settings for his sabers.
When you have a custom saber, you are not affected by the teams color restrictions and neither are bots.

for the bots who are not in the bots.txt but in script/name.bot
well open the .bot file and change it as usual .

To all those clammoring for the fourth and fifth fighting stances, they do not exist in MP, period. That does not, however, mean they cannot be coded, and likely will be, but please understand that every single movement must be detailed out in the humanoid animation code used for every move in the game. What does that mean to you? Well, it means it's a true female dog to code, to put it politely. It is equally difficult as making up one's one fighting stance entirely from scratch. Well, perhaps not, but close enough to it.

My recommendation is to be utterly thankful people like Garik and especially Tck exist to code for us and please be patient until they have the time to get around to every little thing we want ^_^ Although, knowing them, eventually we will get just about every thing we want ; )

Form should be simple

If you are on the dark side then then you saber color
is always red.

If you are on the light side and you are jedi knight
or jedi master then your saber can be blue, green,
purple or yellow.

And if you are on the light side but your level is
lower than jedi knight then your saber color
can be only green or blue.

well maybe people want more colors because every lightsaber is different and is suposed to have a slightly different color from the others.

If you read the star wars books you would know that every jedi build his lightsaber with a crystal and the color of the crystal determines the blade color.
(all the njo jedi have diferent sabers....)

I just wanted to allow creativity and diference.
But you don't have to use it you can didable it.
You an even play with the mod and set your color to 0 0 0 and it will be disabled but you still will be able to see the others custom colors.

The mod has new sprites that are only black, grey and white. Black is still transparency, the core remains white, and the grey parts are colored with the three values, R G B.
If the RBG values are higher the color is brighter, so the glow is more intensive, because it's more far away from black. If the RGBs are near 0, the color is very dark, near black, so the glow is mostly transparent and the blade is very thin.

well my mod actually load diferent pictures in black and white only.
and add r g b parameters to it and display them.
The sabers are diferent because i made them quickly..
i could add one line of code to make them look more like they do in the original game with a lot of transparency but i don't really like it.
I like my sabers ! :)
they are not perfect and the shape of the blade sux but i m working on new ones.
well if you want to, you can open the pk3 check the files and make me great sabers :p

and George Lucas maybe said blue and green for Good Guys and Red for Bad guys but I don't Care :p

Lucas is an idiot. First it was only red and blue, then there was green, because blue was hard to see in the desert. Then there was purple cause Sam Jackson wanted it and Lucas caved. Lucas doesn't even know anymore. There is no "rule" according to the movies anymore except that all bad guys have red sabers (which i think is crap too). If you ask me, everyone SHOULD have whatever saber color they want. I like playing with random on for almost everyone. I like when a reborn has a blue saber, and if a jedi uses a red saber cause he likes red, what's wrong with that?

well actually, in the old jedi order (ep1 and ep 2)
the "rules" are green =>master jedi
blue => jedi knight
the sith uses a synthesis crystal (which are permeated whith the dark side) so it s red.

But in the new jedi order (after ep 6 , in the books) every jedi has it s own color depending on it s tastes...
and they is also a bad guy with a black saber...

Well... In those MP games what i have played most
popular saber colors have been yellow or orange
then came red and then purple, blue and green

(I am not sure but i quess that peoples select their
saber color so that it is as hard as possible to see
in that map...)

Besides, Tchouky is right---there are all sorts of saber colors in the expanded universe based off the crystal inside. I am dying to get a white blade in SP. Or maybe I should conform to ALIEN_JL's "way it ougtta be" and just settle for blue, purple, green, yellow, or orange.
