View Full Version : Do bones add to your over all poly count?

My model says that it is 3500 polys. I know this cant be true. But I was thinking could it be the bones that are adding this amount of polys.
Also what is a good way of checking the poly count amount?
Depends on what program your using to check your poly count. If your using Max or GMax then the bones are being added into the total poly count, so are tags.
What you can do is go to select by name and uncheck everything except xrefs. Then highlight everything in that list (that is all of the bones and none of your mesh) then hit select. It will select all of your bones. Hit delete. (really it's ok you can do that) now check your poly count with out the skeleton. Then hit undo. Your joints are back and you know exactly how many polys your model is. Pretty cool huh... ok it's not that cool....

or you could just select only the mesh and press "Polygon Counter", it gives two numbers, one for whats selected and one for everything.

Where is the " poly counter" located.

yea it took me a bit to find it.
goto utilities (the hammer) and click "configure button sets" (its the one to the right of sets, the picture) then just scroll down and add it to the quick bars.

OH BTW if you have the poly counter out and click on the different groups it shows you how many polys in that group. In other words it updates as you click on things! What a sweet tool! Thanks again for letting us know it was there!
