View Full Version : Is anyone else going to make hydroball maps?

Just curious, i really like hydroball but it needs more maps.

How would you do this?
Just make themap and put water everywhere?

i have one in the making, space like theme. should be ready in a couple of days.

it says how to make them in the readme in the mod.

that space one sounds very cool. ill be looking forward to playing it.

I'll probably make one too. I might go make one now. I will go make one now. It'll be a space theme too, but most likely different from yours, syst. That is an awsome game type! Deffinitly needs more maps.
Oh, and I just love the spectators(not because of jan). They're very fun to kill. BTW, how'd he put those in?

I'm working on one..
06-20-2002, 11:49 AM
Adarin, what kind?

Well, I'm using the Bespin capture the flags textures(Although they all seem to make water noises when you run up the walls or back up against them(And yet they don't in Raven's Bespin CTF level?). Bah.) I'm hoping to make it kind of an arena looking place, but, I might not. Theres a window on the top that you can look down into and watch from above, and about halfway down the playfield is a hallway with a glass window facing the game. It'll be cool. My question is... What's the best night time sky shader? Preferably one with a moon? :)
I want it to be night in my level.. I think I could get some really cool lighting effects that way, I'm hoping.
Out of curiosity, what servers does everyone play Hydroball on?
06-20-2002, 12:30 PM
I'm to busy to get into mapping, but how about some one make one using the Yavin Temple textures? I think that would be cool you know a ancient Arena kind of place with observation windows big ones though I think that would be cool. :D

unfortunately for me i cant play on a server yet cuz my damn cable modem isnt in, but at least i get a chance now to test out all bugs. Ive found a lot of them, some pretty cool ones. My only problem with it is that someone needs to add support for bots to play this game. Since the original base thingy is a fighting match when i spawn bots they just try to kill you. When i get out of their range they run into the red box only and i usually have to trick them into jumping into the blue box. When i manage to get them in they just float there or try to fight you. For some reason also if they were in the red or blue box sometimes they will do the charge they do underwater ( i havent run into that problem though with the patch). Well anyway i guess im the perfect beta tester right now for hydroball maps.

The best night time thing ive seen in a level with a moon in it is the one used in the River of Blood 2

I think the author should have included the .map file with the pk3. That way we could make them by example, and make it easier(at least for me:D) I'm going to make mine a circular arena, with catwalks on the outside, so you can look in. The skybox will me a space type one(don't know which one yet), and the water will be contained by a force-field. It will be on a spaceport, so I'll have areas outside the playable area(where no one can get to) with ships docked/landed. I hope to use the Outrider, but I'm having problems(textures aren't showing up). I won't even get to the map today(thinking up ideas to use), but I'll try tomorrow(I hope you like it, I'm leaving my Mimban Temple till I get done)
I'd also like to know where I could play this great fan-created game.

he really should of, ill email him and see if hell release it. Also use a clearer water texture from the outside. When youre looking in from the original map its hard to tell whats going on.

i so wish i could make maps, though i want someone (and i know someone will sometime) to make the blitzball arena from FF10. i think it would be a good arena, and i'd do it, but i dunno how to do that at all. i never mapped before, but i will learn for this

I accidentally unzipped the file into me base folder and now I canít load the map from the mod menu (it doesnít even show) anyone know what I can do?
And do I need the new hydroball patch to play online?
06-21-2002, 03:43 AM
just copy the hydroball folder and paste it in the gamedata. Then just delete the one in the base

hydroball is to much fun, but we need many more maps. i think i need to organise teams and do a cometition

On the Hydroball water, extract the waterball shader he included and use that. All of the water included with the game(That I've seen) has a fog tag, and thus can only be viewed from one direction, meaning you can only have people enter and watch from one side of your water brush.
My arena is a long octagon shape. =P
06-21-2002, 05:09 AM
cool beans dood. i cant wait to get more hydroball maps to play
06-21-2002, 05:40 AM
Oh yeah, Adarin? Mine has private boxes(or it will anyway), and an observation deck, and landing platforms(non-accessable). So there, :P.

not true, if you go into spectator once the match starts, just follow one of the people playing and press shift to get out of following them, then you can fly around inside the thing

oh sweet, i just put in give all after they stripped me of my weapons, and the weapons add a whole new dimension to this. Not only that but the lightsabers function underwater in hydroball too.If everyone puts on god and give all they wont get killed and all the weapons can do is hit you back a little, its very cool. Try it, its so fun. You can hold the ball with while using your weapons but you cant throw it unless you change back to fists. Thats easy to handle though, i just put the switch to saber button on the 1(end) key by the arrow keys and then i just switch one spot. Great system if you get used to it.

i guess you could blast them back until you can swim into the goal though
