Hey Rich or anyone, I'm getting this error when I compile:

WARNING: areaportal brush 33 doesn't touch two areas

Any idea what I'm doing wrong in the placement of them?

Your area portal doesn't actually seal off anyhting. :) It needs to completely fill the hallway that you put it in.

Do a search for that brush and resize it to fill the spot you put it in. :)

Yah, sometimes it isn't really necessary (in a very select few instances), but it will never hurt your map to put them in.

Always put in areaportals in doorways, as a general rule.

im new to mapping, but what ive found is i make gigantic boxes that are Area portals, so the whole area i want is sealed off, not just at the door

hope this helps

But if you do that, the portal file won't be written correctly... the reason you're making an area portal in the middle of the door is so that the engine knows to calculate individual leafnodes for the inside of the portal and on either side... If you put an area portal in the entire doorway (surrounding the door), you'd be telling the engine to draw more than it really needs to...

poor Rich, it seems like every other post lately is:

"Hey Rich, could you help me with..."
"Rich, I have this problem...."
"I read your tutorial Rich, but I can't......."
"Rich, how do you make.......:

I must admit I have been guilty of on more than one occasion of saying "you should ask Rich".

Although somehow I get the feeling you're liking all these people pulling at you every which way.
