Force Reflect

NOTE: The following is pure speculation and I'm very aware of the fact that this probably never become reality. This is more like "what if" -thread.

I saw the Attack of the Clones recently and there was this scene with Obi-Wan protecting himself against Force Lightning by blocking it with a lightsaber. A bit later Yoda did even better job by "absorbing" the Lightning.

This made me think how the Jedi Outcast force powers could be different, and basically came to this solution:

Force Absorb could be replaced by a power I call Force Reflect. At level 1 it would work against Lightning like Obi-Wan did, you could block lightning with your saber. At level 2 it would work a bit Yoda style, you could, well, absorb the lightning. And, finally, at level 3 you could reflect the lightning back to its creator.

So what about Grip and Drain? Well, Reflect wouldn't work against those powers at all. Instead, Grip would be countered with Push, as it often is already. Drain could be tuned down, so that it could be used only when user does not have full health.

So, what do you think? Got any better suggestions?

sounds alright. however I don't agree with your idea of toning down drain. it has more than one use--keeping you alive, and keep the force of your opponent empty so he can't use any moves on you

What Obi-Wan does is actually a lower level form of Absorb, where you absorb Force by channeling it through an object. It wouldn't be hard to do, I mean the player just puts his hand up or his saber/gun up every time someone uses lightning or something (level 1-2 = with an object, level 3 = with hand).

Okay, I take back what I said about Drain. I forgot the fact that there is Dark vs. Dark matches also, in which it's helpful to keep opponent's Force pool empty, to prevent Lightning and such.

That channeling idea is nice. Perhaps Absorb could be altered so that at level 1 you'll use your weapon for absorbing. This means you'll have to be facing your opponent for it to work. Level 2 could perhaps be close to normal Absorb, and at level 3 you'd absorb all Force and reflect part of it back to opponent.

I still think Absorb should work best against Lightning. Level 1 wouldn't work against Grip at all, and you wouldn't be able to reflect Grip damage back to opponent at level 3. Drain could possibly be simply absorbed like it is now.


Right, before I let this thread rest in peace, I'll just put a summary here about how changed Absorb would work:

Level 1 - Channeling through weapon. Absorbs 33% of Lightning, 30% of drain. Does not absorb Grip. Must be facing opponent.

Level 2 -Bare hand absorb. Absorbs 66% of Lightning, 66% of Drain, 50% of Grip. Still must be facing the opponent.

Level 3 -Ultimate Absorb. Absorbs all Dark Side attacks from all directions. If facing Lightning-using opponent, will reflect the lightning back with 50% of its original power.

NOTE: This Absorb won't work on neutral powers, like Push and Pull.
