the point has been brought up in the EU before (maybe even on this very forum as well but since im new i dont know) that luke skywalker was bait to make vader fight obi wan kenobi, i believe that he was. he was raised on the farm where anakin had buried his mother, he kept the last name, he lived with relatives (not blood but close all the same) and luke applied to the imperial academy, obi wan kenobi (thus far the only person to actually defeat a sithlord in combat) lives just down the block within striking distance if vader did show up. basically it all falls down to the question "did they put luke on tatooine because vader wouldnt want to revisit those awful memories of his dead mother or was it to make him fight obi wan kenobi again?"

It's not like anakin didn't know he was a father, but they put luke there so that he wouldn't know about leia i think, They figured that by putting obi-wan there to protect him luke would be safe, and because anakin wouldn't have to go looking for his child leia could live a normal life.

Who knows he could have been bait, but I don't think so seeing it didn't work at all.

Ermm...Anakin didn't know he had a son. When he found out he hunted his son down, so he could join him. If DV had known he had a son, don't you think he would have snagged him sooner?...

No, I don't think Luke was bait to make Vader fight Obi-Wan, I think Obi-Wan was aware that if Vader wanted his son, he would send in an army to take him out, if he thought he would lose.

I think they were trying to hide Luke so that he wouldn't have his father's evil influence. It wasn't a trap. Obi-Wan let himself dies when he fought on the deathstar so what makes you think he wouldn't have done the same on Tatooine?

sorry if i wasnt specific enough, but what i meant by obi wan being the only jedi to defeat a sith lord was that he's the only one to take out a sith since the darth bane era, i didnt really like that whole storyline anyways, and anything in the EU isnt necessarily part of george lucas' starwars, sure they have a sanction and such but when the books contradict the movies, the movies take precedence.

they hid luke so vader couldnt find him

they most likely knew he would make a big difference and obi wan was there to help

It means expanded (sometimes extended) universe--it refers to all of the non-movie stories in Star Wars (games, books comics, etc)

ok obi wan hid luke and leia so vader couldnt find them and turn them to the dark side or to kill them so they wouldnt pose a threat to the emperor. with leia growing up with a chancler obi must have figured vader wouldnt find her there, so he put look with uncle owen. and kept his eye so to speek on him as he grew up. now when obi was hiding luke and leia yoda had to hide aswell thats why he is on dagouba. and only obi knew who and where everyone is cause with vaders extreme power he killed all the jedi. as yoda told luke in return of the jedi "when i die the last of the jedi, you will be" so thats why luke has a school/acadmey to train people in the ways of the jedi.
