I've never gotten into the Modded World of JK2 (surprisingly, since I generally hop right into it asap :) ), and was wondering: What are the best mods to play with? I've heard something about a saber ghoul or saber trace or something, and how they work into the console...it's all kinda confusing for someone like me (my I.Q. rivals a jar of mayonaisse, actually)...

Could anyone enlighten me a tiny bit?

The saber ghoul and trace thingys are variables that turn certain features on or off. g_saberghoul2collisions (or something like that) turns on Ghoul 2 collisions for sabers when you set it to 1. This results in increased, but generally more accurate blocking. g_sabertracesaberfirst (I think) is set to 1. This is generally what causes the big blocking difference in 1.02 and 1.03. If you want less blocking, set it to 0. :)
