View Full Version : SP Mods

SP Mods are makeable if anyone really wants to make one. All you have to do is mess around with the G_CreateExampleAnimEnt function and the other functions associated with it. You could create your own scripting system or copy the games current one. I have it so I can spawn enemies, teammates, and guys that sit around and kill all npcs but are friendly to players. It would take a lot of work though, but its definately doable.

Oh and as for having two sabers at once... I got it so I moved the saber to the other hand but it was invisible. If I can move which hand it is in then that probably means I can have two.

07-05-2002, 01:31 PM
Um, that command does absolutly nothing...

By the way, you can never create a true mod unless you've got the source code, which unless you hack into Raven's HQ, you won't get.

07-05-2002, 01:36 PM
Um, that command creates an entity. You can make storm troopers that sound like rodians and have rocket launchers if you want. Just dont give it an invalid model name... it gets mad when you do that.

You could make a mp mod that played like single player. People are probably already doing it.

07-05-2002, 01:43 PM
Uuerraah, no...

G_CreateExampleAnimEnt npc_stormtrooper
G_CreateExampleAnimEnt npc_reborn
G_CreateExampleAnimEnt reborn
G_CreateExampleAnimEnt stormtrooper

None of them work... I must be missing something. Also, when I just type in the command, it doesn't give me any info about it...

07-05-2002, 01:45 PM
I also tried it with MP, says it's an unknown command.

07-05-2002, 01:47 PM
oh I forgot you have to edit the source a bit. search for "g2animent" where it checks to see if its a command. look above that a bit and you'll see it is commented out by a #ifdef DEBUG so just take out the #ifdef DEBUG and the corresponding #endif and it should work. I think some of the other commands in that #ifdef block cause errors when you compile so just take those ones out.

07-05-2002, 01:49 PM
Um, you can't edit the SP source code... wasn't that the whole point, making SP mods, not MP mods? Or do you mean making MP like SP? People are already working on that.

07-05-2002, 01:51 PM
oh and you type /g2animent to spawn an ent in multiplayer.
goes /g2animent number team(2 is goodguys) weapon(10 is rocket) modelpath (models/players/stormtrooper/model.glm) soundpath(sound/chars/stormtrooper/misc)
so like
/g2animent 3 1 4 models/players/stormtrooper/model.glm soundpath(sound/chars/stormtrooper/misc will make an enemy storm trooper with a blaster

07-05-2002, 01:55 PM
I still fail to see how this is an SP mod...

07-05-2002, 02:09 PM
I didn't say it was, I said it had the potential to be. Whats the main difference between single player and multiplayer? stormtroopers! If you just make them smarter, give the players some goals to achieve, and do some other stuff then you have a single player mod... sortof.

07-06-2002, 11:43 AM
*Kicks Dest*:atat:

07-07-2002, 12:12 AM
Um, there are TONS of differences. SP has different Force powers and better, extremely better saber combat, as well as variations in weapons.

07-07-2002, 12:44 AM
yeah I was included all of that in the "and do some other stuff " category. I was really just saying that a single player or co-op mod could be made with some work.

07-07-2002, 06:46 AM
Emon, why don't you get a clue and leave the forum. Why do you post here anyway? You have nothing to contribute but being an annoying prick.

Tell you what why don't you send some emails to Raven and tell them what they can't do for their next game!

07-07-2002, 09:37 AM
I'm being a prick? Well you're going around constantly insulting me, so...

All I said was that it's not actually making an SP Mod, which is the title of this thread.

07-07-2002, 02:11 PM
Dest, firstly, i think all your work is great mate, dont let SOME detractors stop you from pushing on with your development.

Secondly, for someone like me that rarely plays any MP games due to the differences in saber combat and whatnot, I think a mission based multiplay game would be awesome, it would entice people like me to play with the MP style of saber combat a little more, and perhaps play some normal multi online also as a consequence.

Cheers Mate

07-07-2002, 04:07 PM
umm...what did Emon do?

This thread is titled SP MOD and he is talking about MP commands...

Jaii der Herr

I do not see Emon's problems:

A SP Mod is a mod you can play allone ( SP eben ). It does not matter if it is done with an SP SDK or with an MP SDK.

You want SP style Saber combat. That's the only problem you have. So stop writing such a bull**** everey second post!

Edit: I am sorry for my **** but my vocabulary isn't vere big :D
Please try to read it as it is meant to: ähm, sorry I do find the right word :(

07-08-2002, 07:34 AM
Um, my point is that he was confusing by calling it an SP mod but it is NOT an SP mod. It's merely a way to spawn entities in MP, which is also useless without ICARUS (WLS is working on that I think).

07-08-2002, 10:08 AM
playing SP in MP is not SP...

when you say SP you mean the game with the story line...

Emon has a point you know...

Jaii der Herr
07-08-2002, 03:20 PM
If yoou can spawn entities in MP you can make it having a storyline. That's my point: SP has a storyline. And I think that's what Dest means

I hope I am not confusing, but you know my english... *g*

07-09-2002, 01:43 AM
The topic title and Dest's first post were very misleading, I dont think you can jump on Emon for pointing that out.

SP Mods are makeable if anyone really wants to make one.
I meen Geeze look at that first sentance!

'SP gameplay in multiplayer' would have been a MUCH less confusing title.

Dest said "I didn't say it was (a SP mod)" but the topic and first posts
suggested it was and NOWERE until his third post on the subject that
Emon managed to pin him down on that issue.

All you idiots who went around saying emon was being a prick obviously
had no clue what he was actualy saying.

Dest: "You can make singleplayer mods!"
Emon:"...no you cant"
Dest:"yes you can...do this:"
Emon:"No, no, no... we dont have the source."
Dest: "I never said it was actualy for singleplayer."
Emon:"Then it isnt realy a SP mod is it?"
NickR/Jaii der Herr: "Emon dont be a prick! leave the forums if you'r never gona be nicel!"

Does anyone ealse see the obsurdity here?
Dest is guilty of nothing more than incredibaly obscure writing,
Emon of nothing more than pointing that out, rather politely at that.

I never said that or even does not want to say it. But if it sounds like this I'll say sorry (Oh, perhaps it should sound like this ( a little notise by an logical thinking coder whith many recursive thoughts wich never could be told exactly to someone else...) (muss nicht verstanden werden :D )).

Could it be that you and exspecialy Emon do not know very much about coding?
For me as a coder it is very anoying reading evry second post something from someone telling me you can't do it. And I know, as Dest said: "SP Mods are makeable if anyone really wants to make one." it is possible. Even without SP source!

I hope you can understand me now.

07-09-2002, 09:58 PM
Thank you, Joben.

07-09-2002, 10:01 PM
I know quite a bit about coding, I did tons of it for JK.

My point is that it's NOT an SP mod unless you have the SP SOURCE CODE, which we DON'T. It's a pain in the ass to make a mod of MP to make it like SP (like the co-op mod WLS is doing) and making your level for MP using MP entities, MP Force, MP sabers, MP weapons, etc.

Sure, you could remake the entire SP game using the MP code to every detail and then you can make your "SP mods". But that's STILL not an SP mod. Some people just wanna alter the function of the E-11 or the Repeater for SP, they don't want to make an entire MP recode or something just so they can make their mod!

get over it..............

Well do you guys know any better ways to make single player mods? You don't have the SP source code but you do have the MP source code. Just because you use MP source code doesn't mean it has to be a multiplayer game.

My definition of a single player mod: A mod where you fight bots instead of players.

Emons definition: A mod that uses the SP source code.

Since we don't have the SP source emon's definition doesn't leave us much room to go so I like my definition better.

And if one person recoded multiplayer so that you could use it for single player then everyone could use it and have /thedestroyer in SP.

point taken.

The original issue itself didnt realy bother me.
I just found ppl jumping on someone because he was using the
more standard definition of "Singleplayer Mod" to be annoying.

There isnt even realy anything wrong with Dest's definition.
It just wasnt clear what he was talking about at the begining.

Now that we have all that cleared up...what was Dest's telling us? I forgot :p

07-10-2002, 06:08 AM
"My definition of a single player mod: A mod where you fight bots instead of players."

You can already do that in MP without mods. ;)

Is that a problem? *g*

Technically, Emon is correct. You need the Single Player source code if you want to make a mod for the SINGLE PLAYER VERSION of the game.
HOWEVER...Dest is right: Single Player...if you REALLY want to get down into the grit of it...means something where you play against bots, and not other human beings. If somebody created a completely scripted storyline that consisted of Kyle and no other human players...one that you didn't really have to connect to the net for in the first place... using the Multiplayer executable, then that WOULD technically be a Single Player mod. ;)
So it would seem to be, they are BOTH correct...in their own right. There was simply a misunderstanding.

Now that I'm done with that little tidbit: Dest, you mentioned that you were able to switch the saber from its original hand in the Single Player version of the game...? I'm...still a bit confused on how you went about that...

07-13-2002, 02:25 PM
No, he didn't for SP. He made it for MP and spawned Stormtroopers, immediatly making it identicle to SP.

Dark Cloak
07-14-2002, 12:22 AM
*facepalms* That's the point! It IS possible to use the multiplayer source code to create single player game. Call it Single Player-Like if you so choose, but he was pointing out the [i]possibilities[\i]. ;) ... *wiggles her nose at Emon* :p Nyaaaaa! *giggles*

07-14-2002, 12:44 AM
I was talking about more than spawning storm troopers. I meant if someone added like goals and waypoints for the stormtroopers so they would patrol or guard or whatever. maybe even something that could get the waypoint data and stuff right out of the single player maps so you could load whole single player maps with all the storm troopers, goals, and waypoints into multiplayer.

07-14-2002, 01:22 AM
You'd have to program ICARUS into MP (WLS is doing that I hear), you'd have to completely rewrite the saber and Force systems to be like SP, you'd have to remake all the SP entities for MP, and a ****load of stuff that just isn't worth the effort.

Okay, it's POSSIBLE. Well it's also possible for me to go make a complete remake of the original SW movies with my friends, but is it worth the effort? No.

If you just want to make a new weapon for SP, it's not worth it. If you want to make a huge ass TC or something, then maybe it's worth it.

Why should I rewrite the saber and force systems? Why must it be like the Jedi Outcast SP mode?

07-14-2002, 02:55 AM
I think it would be worth it to have a co-op mode.

07-14-2002, 06:06 AM
Well SP saber would be nicer but it isnt essential to getting SP style missions working in multiplayer. Once you get the groundwork in place you can worry about stuff like lots of work for a better duel system.

It doesn't have to be, but the saber system is much better at least. For many SP missions like my own, it just would not happen without JO's SP saber combat.
