I have light coming into my rooms from outisde lights.. if I make a wall brush thats touching but not overlapping like recommended in rich's tutorial you can see the light coming threw the cracks and looks tacky? is there any way I can make the two seperate brushes into one whole brush to stop the light from coming in?

It should stop the light from coming in anyway if you made the walls right... :)

just make sure that there are no gaps between the brushes for the walls, floors, ceilings, whatever. The brushes should touch, just not overlap. If they touch, there shouldn't be any light from outside getting through.
This shouldn't be necessary if you never changed your grid size, but if you did, you may want to decrease the grid size to get things to line up right.
Oh, and it should be okay to overlap brushes (although you should try to avoid it) so long as you don't create any duplicate planes which will cause z-fighting (2 brush faces occupying the same space)

I will try making the grid size smaller.. although I think I am already at 3..
