I think that when your own character is thinking, we should use italics. The ~~ look kinda funny.

I also use italics when I think. I write it more of the style they use in the star wars books

"blah blah blah" - speaking
blah blah blah - thinking
blah blah blah - things a narrator would say... actions of the characters and whatnot

and i believe that is it.
