View Full Version : Skins & Models seem to be a waste of time...........

Hey all

I'm a little confused by somthing.

I've been FPS gaming for about 3 years now and I've always downloaded all the skins and models I could get my hands on to make the game more interesting and fun. However no-one else seems to bother so I'm giving up!

What is the point in downloading loads of files if no-one else will ever see the result. Fine it makes me feel big and clever cos I look like Darth Vader but I'm still not a happy man.

How many of you take the time to build up a large collection of skins/ models?

I'd really be interested because otherwise I'll just stick to the one's that shipped with the game in future.

I download most of the new skins when they come out,

Sadly most of them are quite rubbish really. If they are good and do not have flawed animations like the Boba Fett model then I'll add it to the serv er otherwise they get consigned to the recycle bin.

But yeah I know what you mean I'm sick of seeing shadow troopers and Kyle (wuss) Katarn.

I download all the High Quality models and some kool skins too.
Dont use them, like the shadowtrooper, but its kool when someone else... maybe you runs around looking like Darth.. more fun to kill then :)

I have quite a huge collection of skins and models....it really makes me hungry, seeing all new models and stuff....and it enlarges my gaming experience...

So I am an skin/model addict!!

I like the variety of most skins and models, but you have to have a standard.

Most of the models/skins/whatever I thought were descent I put on my server here:

true.. most of the servers tha i play doesnt even have the ep2 skin pack!! (which i think all skins are great in that pack)... Heck I c very rarely a vader... But true it is a waste of time making skins, if no1 is going to put it on the server.

So few servers admins are willing to do it... Surprisingly many do not because they don't think they can both install skins and run the server pure still. And yet more don't bother because they aren't willing to have people downloads maps and the like. I think when it comes down to it, it's really just the difference between the real admins, and the "little" admins.... Helll though I dunno, every server I ever ran I've always played custom maps, skins and the like. But then again I've got the know how to set all this stuff up, forums, websit,e servers, etc.....,

Most of the time I download stuff the servers I go to have it!!

I feel your pain. Try this.... setup your own server, and check "allow downloading" and make sure you enable the use of mods. Then title your game something like this:

"Skins FFA server (auto-download Boba Fett, Darth Maul, etc)"

That way people can see the game and join with skins, or auto-download them from you and use them.

Problem solved!

i download jango fett models and skins only but since you brought this up why would you want a model or a skin on MP that no one can see? i'm going to change my life and download SP mods

I collect bunches of skins & put others up at my users' requests. You can see a complete list of em here (http://academy.jediknightii.net/servers_detail.php?f_id=2). FYI the server is pure, so for all those that think skins + a pure server dont work.. all the guy w/o the skin will see is a generic kyle skin.

Tribes 2 had a better way than just simple autodownload, but hyperlinks you cna put in the map load screen the user could click on. Now that's smart. :)

Cuz that auto-download can suck ass when it's only going as fast as the server rate allows. Which is usually only about 5 - 8k per sec.
