View Full Version : Transparency Skin

I was wondering how I make a skin with transparent parts in it (using this for a tattered cape). I know it has to do with alpha channels, but I'm not sure of the specifics. Anyone know? And could anyone point me to a tutorial on shaders and alpha channels? Thanks

i've been in contact with sithlord-ii regarding shaders ... i was so impressed with the shaders used on the new vader model, i thought he could help me with some shader questions for a couple of skins i'm working on. anyway, i was under the assumption that ShaderEd2 would be the software to use, but it's supposedly a major pain in the @$$. he told me to go to polycount.com and download q3ase (Quake 3: Arena Shader Editor), which works with JKII b/c it uses the quake engine. click here (http://old.fileplanet.com/dl/dl.asp?polycount/tools/quake3/q3ase.zip) to download it. there's also a tutorial for q3ase here (http://www.planetquake.com/polycount/resources/quake3/Shader_Doc/Q3Ashader_manual.htm) which should help.
looking for an alpha channel tutorial? click here (http://www.planetquake.com/meanarena/Q3_alpha-channel_tuts.html) to check it out.
polycount has a ton of tutorials at this location (http://www.planetquake.com/polycount/resources/quake3/tutorials.shtml) which include the two i've listed above as well as many more.
lemme guess, you're gonna use alpha channels on spawn's cape?
i hope they work for you. i haven't had the chance to work with these, YET, so hopefully you can figure them out. good luck with it! :yelbounc:
