I guess if your more into fighting, KOTOR is more of a game for you.

But SWG will aso have some fighting.

I think that differential is what makes both games worth buying.

I'm very active on the developer's board for Star War's Galaxies, yet I started out this year solely exicted for KotoR. It's funny, but I never even gave SWG a second look, expecting it to be another "rpg lite" like EQ appeared to be (never played it, I held quite a bias against pay for play games). Ironically, it was only because KotoR's developers weren't releasing any info about the game pre E3 that--to keep within the theme of Star Wars--I decided to peek into the MMO title.

My question is this, how do you guys feel about these two titles? Competition or companions? I personally will play both, but--although I started with more love for KotoR, SWG is were the highest expectations are.

Are you guys following both, if not-->why?

There is much more playabilty and customization in SWG.

Plus the game doesn't end so you know, swg owns.

I'm actually following both somewhat and look foward to those games.. I'm expecting alot in these games, but something tells me I shouldn't quite yet.... I can't really explain right now, but the feeling I have. Anyhow, I'm looking foward to playing the past with this game when the Sith were alive in numbers along with the Jedi and see how the Sith fall gradually. Perhaps be tempted and go to the Dark Side as I heard it can happen :). As for SW:G, I'm excited to play that as much as KOTOR! I like to see how the empire falls in that and see what happens to the republic and such with the rise of possibly the Rebels in the game which I'm sure will happen... I need to look at more info of this game as you might see . I haven't looked at the site and such long enough as I have with KOTOR. As for both being competetive.... I heard KOTOR was oriented more toward offline play while SW:G is oriented toward online play (which is free :D) and heard there was an expansion on the way already, so the future looks bright with SW:G.. That's all I can really at this time. I can only hope for the best of both games really :).

KOTOR is for the people who want to be Jedi
Many who have whinged and moaned about not being a jedi in SWG say they are gonna play this instead

I don't see a reason to compare them, as they are very different...

but I guess you can guess my answer based on these boards and the site....

though I'll be getting Galaxies for sure...

I like the look of both games. However, I'm not sure which one I'm going to get.

You see, I'm thinking of going to uni next year and if I do I think I'll buy KOTOR instead of SWG. If instead, I decide to get a job then I will buy SWG.

Right now I am 80% chance going to uni
20% chance getting a job
5% undecided

I'm really looking forward to maths, it is my best subject. :D

me personally i am definatly going to get knights of the old republic and whish i could play star wars galaxies. i wont be able to play galaxies because of the subsription thing and my heart lies with the jedi, that is what keeps me a star wars fan i'm addicted to the jedi... and possibly the dark side

Both are RPG's, though as several people have mentioned, SWG will have much more customization for your character. Also, KOTOR is it's own self-contained dtory. SWG will be driven by the interaction of the players, giving them control of the path the game takes. I'm personally planning on getting both.:D

yeah, and therefor, they are too different for a fair comparison..

both are SW, both have stats, and the the similarities end...

But still, a single player version of Starwars galaxies would be cool. :)

However, I wouldn't like to see the amount of processing power required for such a game. ;)

well, a singleplayer mmorpg would be pretty similar to Morrowind I think...

The problem with Galaxies is you have to play it online and have to pay to play it; that sucks. I'm looking more forward to KoToR and hope it's everything I wish JK2 had been. JK2 is too difficult for me, I used to be someone who play quake based games all the time but now that i hardly play, I dont have time to get good. I'd rather have a 3rd person game that's point and click instead of a 3rd person game with all these stances and moves and stuff.

well, JK II isn't that difficult...

So you only like games that your really good at. The difficulty is what will keep me coming back to play a game. I don't want something impossibel, but if I beat it in two seconds it's no fun any more. And I don't think KOTOR will be really easy. Just because it's point and click, doesn't mean it will be a breeze, just that there will be more puzzles and strategy to it.

edit- Hey Raven you have one more two, in your number of posts, than I do.

Yeah, it's called enjoying my free time :D. It's not an ego thing or competition thing, it's just more fun :p

Humm.. I replied to this before, but--oddly--it seems to have vanished from the forum (and, although I started this thread, my post isn't the first anymore.. humm).

Anyhow:

Com -

yeah, and therefor, they are too different for a fair comparison..

both are SW, both have stats, and the the similarities end...

They are also the first CRPGs under the Star Wars license.

Needless to say, they are both games that take considerable time invested to beat.

They were also both slated for release against each other, until bioware decided to move the PC release back. Many have speculated this had something to do with Galaxies, but any official word has been mute, as far as I have read (it's not like they would admit to it anyhow, that would be PR suicide).

Marketing execs for major corporations look at the bottom line, and I would assume the thematic similarities would be enough to draw them into comparison.

If you don't have enough for it, I can sympathize--but it doesn't suck. Far from it, it is the best feature.

Before I elaborate, let me paint a picture of myself for you. I'm a quasi-Marxist, anti-capitalist (more of an anarchosyndicalist - aka anarchist, but in the Bakuninist sense ;) ). I have friends that work for Addbusters (http://adbusters.org/spoofads/). I'm marched against FTAA and IMF policies, and have no love for corporations that take your money needlessly. At the same time, I'm also trained in computer network maintenance, and design. I have my Cisco CCNA (i.e. I can make a network for you using cisco routers ;) ), and almost finished my MCSE before getting sick of the industry.

With that said, paying a continuing fee to a company does much to make your game experience brighter. The money doesn't just go into the pockets of corporate fat cats, it goes to maintain the networks you're playing on, and the CSRs you encounter when you have a problem. It also goes to pay the Live Team to make new content! Remember, those that have the power to kill a game are not gamers like you, but corporate fat cats who look only at revenue generated by the title. More pay = more support from the powers that be, as it is the best litmus of success.

Trust me, SWG will continue to be growing, adding new content, and expanding LONG after KotoR is in the value bin. This isn't a stab at KotoR specifically, I like the game so far. but NO single player game has the kind of support that MMOs get.

It's not a game you're paying for, it is a service.

Single Player game designers can (and have) released a buggy game, and only tagged a single patch post release to help the life of the title. JK2 is suffering from this now. The logic behind this is, why should their companies invest the time into expanding on the play experience you've already paid for?

MMOs are REQUIRED to keep new content flowing and fix any problems that arise, otherwise the title dies (and revenue stops).

So, again, something that has a continuos facet of capital will become the better play experience for the consumer. Simple economics.
