Count Dooku/Darth Tyranus ordered the clones. By orders from Sidious. Dooku posed as Sifo-Dyas(A jedi who was a menber of the council that died 10 years before AOTC).

Correction: Syfo Dias died more than 10 years before AotC. Obi-Wan implied as much... his "Almost ten years ago" was more likely than not carefully worded so as not to make the Kaminoans suspicious and probably meant 11 to 12 years before. The Phantom Menace took place 10 years before AotC and unless all of the reference books on the subject are completely wrong, there was no Syfo Dias on the Council, then.

Also, Syfo Dias might not've even been on the Jedi Council, Obi-Wan answered Lama Su's question of "Master Syfo Dias is still a leading member of the Jedi Council, is he not?" by going directly into the quote I already mentioned above. And when Obi-Wan was reporting to Mace and Yoda, he again doesn't come out and say Syfo Dias was on the Council, just asked "Did the Council ever approve of the creation of a Clone Army?" Also, Kaminoans don't seem like the kind as would question a person's title--as long as they've got the credits, they can be whatever they want to be.

I just wanted to answer his question without getting to much into it.
Dooku is in fact the leading candidate for being the one who ordered the clones. I was simply going by the clues given.

It could also be Sidious by the popular name analogy Sidious = Sifo-Dyas.

Perhaps we will know in Ep III, perhaps we never will. :D Wait and see.

Exellent Point AgenSmith!!!!

Anakin Skywalker changes his name to Darth Vader, so how do you know that Lord Sidious did not change his name too.

Even Sidious had to have attended the Jedi Academy and been on the Jedi Council, as anyone with so much power in the force must have made it high up in the Jedi order.

Sifo-Dyas could have been Sidious' previous name, and as Jedi_Monk observently pointed out, Sifo-Dyas must have died a bit more then 10 years ago and definetly before EP1 when all trouble starts.

So Sifo-Dyas a very famous and powerful Jedi fakes his death, tries to build an army of clones, causes a disturbance by attacking Naboo for no apparent reason, gets into to Senate Counciler position power and causes disturbance because of the Naboo incident, then the Clone Army is officially accepted because of desporation, then he rubs his hands together happy of his handy-work, then takes it all over.

Everyone probably work that out ages ago, but as no-one was bothered to explain it to those who didn't know, I did a favour.

Your not suggesting that a previous Jedi, and even more unbelievable a member of the Jedi council at that, faked his own death 10 - 12 years before AOTC (at best 14-15), which means at the very least, about 5 years before TPM.

Then, in just five short years he convinces Naboo to elect him as senator, gains the help of the Trade Federation, fully trains the Sith Apprentice Darth Maul, then bends the will of the senate to elect him Supreme Chancellor in just under five years. And now, for the last ten years, His Fellow Jedi Council memebers answer to him personally, and they still don't recognize him?

I find that just a little hard to swallow! :p

I'm not sure why you think that sideous used to be a jedi....i think it is VERY unlikely that he was ever a jedi...it's a silly thought, because if he had been, the jedi would know about him......

None of the Jedi knew who Darth Maul was, but he was also very well trained in the Jedi Arts. I doubt Sidious was trained as a Jedi. Unless he had major plastic surgery and a major personality alteration, the Jedi council would certainly know that Sidious was Sifo-Dyas (I personally doubt he was, though he might have pretended to be him and in doing so, ordered the creation of the clones.)

More than likely, Sidious would have received his training in the Force arts the same way Maul did, as an apprentice to a Sith Master. In doing so, none of the Jedis would know about his powers, which they apparently do not.

Your little forum on the Internet, where you talk to complete strangers about several films that happened to do quite well at the box office, where you stare at a computer screen all day tapping at a keyboard, where all you do is watch a film and talk about it.

Welcome to the real world, guys!

Oh, and by the way, It's me... HOLO-SIDIOUS! SURPRISE, #######S!

You do not have to be a fallen Jedi to be a Sith Lord. It's unlikely that Darth Sidious was apprenticed to a Sith Lord since the last known Lord of The Sith died over a thousand years before Episode I. More likely he found a source of Sith knowledge, perhaps a holocron and studied it to gain his expertise in the Sith arts. This is just my theory, of course.:D

Thanks fo pointing that out Norin Radd, I was going to reply to the posts that Sidioud was not a Jedi before, but I just couldn't be bothered to argue about it then.

Still, it could not have been Dooku who was Sifo-Dyas, as Dooku was a well know Jedi, so was Sifo-Dyas, unless Dooku killed Sifo-Dyas, you nevr know, that is probably the reason Dooku became a Sith,(Yes I know, this was mentioned before, just repeating in case anyone fergot).

It just depends on how long Dooku had disapeared, he is a powerful Jedi, but he probably wasn't as powerful in the force before, as Yoda does point out in the final saber battle scene, that Dooku has grown stronger.

I laugh if I found out that if a Jedi kills another, they grow stronger in the force, maybe Dooku killing Sifo-Dyas made him stronger, this is just speculation, I don't really believe it myself.

We don't know much about Sifo-Dyas except that he ordered the clones and disapeared over 10 years before SW2, and all we know about Dooku is that he is a Sith, apprentice to Yoda.

Dooku has definetly more history, as he did know Mace Windu well in the arena scene, where he states that Mace wants to die in a tight situation so that he can have a statue of him put in the Jedi Library, maybe the Jedi Council already knew that he was a Sith, they must have know actually, as the disturbance in the force is noticed by Jedi.

It's certainly possible that Sidious gained knowledge of the Sith ways via holocrons. But even if the last KNOWN Sith Lord died 1000 years ago, that doesn't mean that the Sith have not been around the past 1000 years, simply that the Jedi didn't know about them.

You seem to be a very disturbing character Commander bond or Holo-Sidious or whoever you are. You seem to be losing touch with reality. I hope you realize how stupid you appear to others and leave people be. You insinuate we waste our lives on the computer when it was YOU who made a silly roleplaying club with YOURSELF as the only member taking on multiple roles. Very frightning indeed.

Okay, the Kaminoans live outside of the Republic, they don't know the names of famous jedi. So ANYONE could have pretended to be Sifo Dyas. Bail Organa could have done it. (He didn't, i'm just making a point)

Sifo-Dyas didn't disappear, he was killed. Sifo-Dyas did not order the clones, somebody pretending to be him did.

Apparently you were sleeping during this scene, because he never said that mace wanted to Die, he said "You have fought well, worthy of recognition in the jedi archives, put down your weeapons, and your lives will be spared" To which mace replies "We will not be hostages to be bartered Dooku!" And dooku says "Then....I'm sorry, old friend" The council didn't know he was a sith, beginning of the movie
Amidala "I think count Dooku is behind this"
Ki-Adi-Mundi "He's a political idealist, not a murderer"
Mace "You do realize that he was once a jedi, he couldn't assassinate anyone, it's not in his character."

And then after Dooku throws some stuff at yoda
Yoda "Powerful you have become dooku......the dark side i sense in you" That was the first that the council knew of Dookus transition to the dark side.
