I am sure all of you RPG Fans have been waiting for something like this :)

RPGmod is a modification for JK2 based off of Jedi Mod. We plan for it to be a major enhancement for Role-Playing Fans with new emotes, sounds, a very good scaling configuration, and server side controls.

In the first version we plan to include ---

- New Lightsaber Sounds (some may be borrowed)
- New Weapon Sounds
- Lightsabers Will Be More Designed To Fit The Ep2 Style
- Scaling For Most Models Out There
- Scaling For Some Skins Out There
- Special Scaling For Droids, etc.
- Adding A Flashlight. We are positive yet, but we know how.

Sorry, currently I have no screenshots for you, but I can assure this IS NOT bs. We are currently 40% completed and we are hoping to be finished within the next two to three weeks.

Stick around for updates because I should have screen shots which will demonstrate our lightsabers and scaling within the next few days.

Its meant to improve performance of RPG games. I think that RPGs right now arent very through and dont have enough features. The game administrators are the only things that support making it fun. Basically there is no difference to an RPG right now than a free for all game because there are no new sounds or anything. No, it will not have a separate storyline. This is not a single player mod. IT IS A MULTIPLAYER MOD :). No leveling up since thats like.. impossible with jk2. Thanks for taking your interest!

Im no coder but leveling up is impossible with JK2? I thought it would be easy (if you the opposite to me in coding = good at coding)... the first example I can think of would be that everyone joins the game with no force powers... After lets say the first 5 kills you get 1 force points / kill to put in any force you like... then you will get 1 force point for every 2 kills you make for 5 levels after that... meaning that with 15 kills total you will have 10 points... and then the next 5 levels you will get 1 force point for every 3 kills you make... your level would be the number of force points you got...

And it would be cool to implent new skills with a RPG style like this... as example you can have new forces (skills) that are permanent (no activation) that can make your force regenerate faster, your saber damage can get bonus (+25% the first point, +50% damage for lvl2 in the skill, +75% damage on lvl3. All forces should be 3lvls).... Skills with bonus to kicks... I got a lot more ideas like that... And I could surely join a team that would like to make something like that, I can do some maps for the mod and give a lot more ideas like that... and playtesting of course :)

nope, no homepage... YET :)

im adding the final touches to the mod so it should be released in the next few days.

i got a shot today ( :mad: ) so thats going to halt its release for at least 3 days. in the next version of the mod we plan on merging another mod into rpgmod called the "Fly Mod" (which I have sworn to not to reveal anything about to the community) which will even make the mod better.

mero, if you have anymore ideas like you just gave me i would be happy to look into them :) spill em :)

Worried about people stealing your ideas? Anyway, you may want to take a look at this thread (http://66.250.145.38/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72575). I asked for open idea submissions and I've gotten some good responses. But please don't use my Force Dodge / Fatigue idea, I'd like some time to try to impliment it before I "open source" the idea. :D

what does this mod have to do with role playing..........., just adding a few new taunts and emotes wont make it a RPG and all the other mentioned features are already in jedimod.............

Actually, it is really to bad that this is not going to be for SP. It seems that everything is being geared for MP nowadays, as if everyone has a broadband connection to the internet and can really enjoy a relatively lag-free gaming experience. This is why I haven't bothered with MP games very often.

Here is my vision of a JKII-based SP RPG:

First off: character selection:
Select from varrious character types, not limited to force sensitives. Things like New Republic Soldier, Imperial Stormtrooper, Mercenary, etc.

Secondly, Character type-based missions:
If you selected Imperial Stormtrooper, you would only be presented with missions that would involve action against enemies of the Empire or missions involving imperial-based assignments.

Thirdly, Skill advancement:
Based on how you perform in each mission, you would receive skill rating adjustments in a variety of areas. For example, marksmanship. Have it where when you shoot a blaster, a random "skew" value is calculated based on your marksmanship with that weapon. This will cause the the fired bolt to be off center either up, down, left or right by up to twenty degrees, requiring the player to be closer to the target from the start to be effective.

Fourth on the list is Interaction:
It is not enough for an RPG to allow you to play a particular character type and go on missions suited to that type. There must be the ability to interact with the environment and having that environment respond appropriately to the character type you're playing. For example, an imperial will have access to a wide variety of areas in an imperial base that a rebel would not. A rebel would need a security key to bypass access codes to get into parts of an imperial facility, but an imperial would not. In JK2, when kyle attempts to get into an ATST, he says something like "There's no way I'll be able to get that open". But if you are playing an imperial, then you will have no problem. Just press the use key and you're in the ATST.

And finally, we come to what truly defines a RPG: Story:
For every mission that a player goes on, there needs to be a clear definition of who is there, why the player is going on it, where it takes place, what the goals are, and how those goals may be obtained.

Multiplayer games have a tendency to detract from roleplay, except when all players are true roleplayers. Otherwise you have jedi characters saying things like I Ownd Joo! and other KeWl DoOd 1337 speak garbage

You could have it where doing emotes actually "shoots" a target. In other words, if you face someone and bow, then a "bow" projectile is launched. You won't see it or perceive of any changes, but your target will receive an input that its AI model would check against. For example, if you bow to a protocol droid, it might say something like "I am not worthy" or something.

If you walk into the mos eisley cantina and do a fist emote on a rodian standing around, he may take it as an instigation to a fight and go on the offensive. Those allied to him will also go aggressive.

Also, a tone mode should be implemented:
Respectful
Neutral
Disdainful

This will allow a variety of conversational outcomes with NPCs. For example, if you speak disdainfully to a Hutt, he's liable to take a dislike to you and order his henchmen to kill you, whereas if you speak respectfully to him, he may be more apt to share information.

I'd go further, but I am about to go download some JK2 editing resources so that I can begin learning how to do some of the things I want to do.

Nevertheless, I still would like to know your thoughts...

Dude, not to brake your sprites but that's simply not possible in SP until we get the SP source code. Plus, that would require a huge number of additional media (audio, animations, etc.) that simply isn't in the game right now.

When I get it, I cancel my EQ subscription and basically uninstall every game on my system (except for JK2, as Chronicles of the Rebellion will be very much underway by then, with hope).

Sorry, didn't mean to discourage you. We tend to want more than what's reasonably possible. Heck, GBJackson2's suggestions would require a total rebuild of about everything in the game. :)

k mesa needs help.

whenever im ready to release the first release (v0.6) I am worried about filesizes going through my e-mail. hotmail only allows 1mb to go through and geocities is crap.

is there any e-mail service provider that will allow 5mb of file transfer for FREE ??

if there isnt i might have a little bit of trouble releasing this, hehe.

Want more force powers and skills ? I have a hundred new force and skill ideas :) but until you confirm that, I will say that a class-system would be very neat in a RPG mod, lets say you can be a Rebel soldier, stormtrooper, Jedi, Sith for a start.
Stormtroopers(& the rebelsoldiers) "force menu" would not be forces, but skills only most likely... there you can choose skills that gives bonuses to the different weapons (seperated in light, medium & heavy weapons maybe?) that gives bonus to damage, and maybe the hit accuracy would be badder than normal now in the start (not to much do, but it would go a bit random from the crosshair) and will full lvl in a skill the aiming would be perfect on most weapons (the secondary fire on the E-11 would still be a bit random, as example)... and bonus to damage as I said...
You can set a limit that the maximum shielding are 100 for all troopers, but a skill can increase the maximum to 125 with one skillpts, 150 with 2pts, and 200 with lvl3.

this is for the soldierclasses now, the force users would probably only have 25 shields as maximum always...
You can have a first aid skill, you duck and performs some first aid on yourself and slowly recharges health(faster with higher lvl)...

As the jedis & sith's are bound to their lightsaber and forcepowers as only offensive weapon, it would be really hard to level up when you join a game, as opposit to the soldiers that can grab a RL and start leveling... So most probably the weapons you can pick up must be somewhat restricted in the start, you have to have heavy weapon lvl3 to use a rocketlauncher or something like that... the light & medium & heavy skills locks up more weapons the higher level you have... or maybe the RL is pretty much useless because of REALLY bad aim until at least lvl2 heavy weapon skill... With lvl1 skill you can become much slower with a heavier weapon, but with higher skill, you become a bit faster...

What more skills can a soldier get? Turret skill? the turret can be used with lvl1 skill, with more points in it, it can maybe fire faster and last longer, have more HP.

Hitpoints can be bound to level, everyone starts at 50 hp as maximum, and gain more hp per level... the force users can also gain more force... maybe at starting level they can use 2 push or pulls before they run out...

Just spawning ideas, a class-system like this would be really cool, although this is just some ideas, and more skills can be added easily to the soldier class...

I wasn't aware of a file transfer limit on hotmail, I thought it was just a limit on the size of your stuff on their server....

As for another email account, why not use the email account you get free with your ISP account?

because of spam. there is no filtering on that account and every type of spam message you can think of comes through that account, including porn.

Yes, submit it to a DL site... I don't know any free email services that let you send 5Mb mails... sorry...

I think it's hard to implement a level system though....
but you probably are a good coder, unlike me :)

woo hoo i have been waiting for an rpg mod to develope in jk2 for a long time now. the features you have now sound good but also sound more like the things you add to the mod after the basics of the mod have been set up (lvling or skill system).

after the lvling/skill system is in place would it be possible to include npc's, of various skill and types,that give exp/skill. this would alter the gameplay in some respects to be more of a coop but still keep the possibility to pk the other actual players.

i know there is a playeronly spawn point, but is there an npc only type spawn point? is so possible quest maps could be made with missions and goals for the server's participants to achieve while fighting against the npc's to achieve it. ontop of that at the end of these quest maps could be a map change entity linking to the next map. this opens up the possiblities for making large almost singleplayer-like adventures for the players. but would take some work.

much work can be done to achieve different paths of the infinite possiblities of RPG games but i encourage you to take it slow and not get overwhelmed.

i am very much so interested in this and would really liek to see it a little open so that it coudl be converted with out to much trouble to a more medieval theme :) im a sucker for armor and swords :P

I don't want to hijack poor General_Heat's thread so I'll make this quick.

Yes, my Mod will eventually have a experience based leveling up system. I'm more of a believer in skills-based leveling (not class-based) but it will be a leveling system none the less. The Mod is called Masters of the Force and I'll take whatever help (design, coding, animations, etc), at whatever skill level, that is offered. I'm currently working on the Stage One Design Doc which is for implimenting a MUCH more realistic combat model to the game. Stage Two will involve putting in a skills-based leveling system.

Having "quests" on specialmade maps is a great idea.
One easy function would be to go to a NPC, press activate and you get a missionbox saying "My name is blablabla and I can reinforce your saber to do more damage. Go to the temple over there and get me a blablablacrystal."... and the temple is maybe guarded by a big mean rancor or something ... something big and cool =) Although the missions can be different (like kill a npc, reach a minimum level before teaching skill and more) there are to much work to make this work I think... But sure is a nice idea of a "mini mmorpg"...

and another downside is that maps can't be incredible big, but if you build it using several levels they can be quite big...

But the focus should still be on player vs player combat...
One map idea is that the map is layed out as a CTF map, both teams has a flag and a "mini town" very the npc's are (and maybe some defense like turrets). Forces can't be used in town, like a gravity field around the town that disables all force powers. That way people who played for a while can't force run to grab the flag all the time and outrun the players who just joined... until they reach the end of the town, where force powers gets enabled again... But a objective mode would be cooler, were you can blow up a generator or whatever...

the bases would be put like 3 force runs away... and there can be npc enemies for experience along the road... or sideroads you can take... for example the quest with the temple can be located on a sideroad in the middle of the map...

But I think this is too much for someone to make, and I don't think someone will do it before SW:Galaxies gets released, and then everyone will play galaxies...

But the levelup system is probably very do-able...
these ideas sure sounds cool :)

i was thinking about getting a mapping crew etc to help work on some good rpg maps :) heres what interests me and what i need :

3 towns (one is on hoth, one is a section of coruscant, and another is on a section of kamino)

1 camp (i would like a military camp because im later gonna model Sarge and his crew and some grunts [from army men rts etc] and model a gun for him out of the repeater for rpgmod)

1 space station (make sure people will have enough room to fly in because in the second release we will merge with FLYmod)

1 forest (make sure its something like what you would see in Meridian 59 Remix)

1 war place on hoth (make sure its on hoth, and make sure there are 2 bases and its big enough for atst fighting)

thats about it. some of this might sound like bs but its all gonna be in RPGmod and FLYmod. oh yeah, and Sarge and his crew and a grunt, those are all future modeling releases so please dont e-mail me 10000 times asking for the model, it will come when it comes.

oh yes, swords, etc are coming in the second release. its not going to be difficult to put them among the selectable hilts because ive known how to do it for ages, altho it will only work on specific players such as maybe a sandperson (whenever he is ever released). if there are any models etc that you think should use weapons only and no sabers just post them up here and ill look into it, but remember they wont be able to use sabers.

One question:
will the maps be capture the flag style?
Or create a objective style?
Will there be two teams planned on each map, or FFA only, then people can roleplay their own teams by gathering in one base?

I hope at least it will be CTF, or script a objective style...
example: One objective to blow some generators on hoth, and the defending team will defend... AT-ST (maybe even AT-AT's) coming through the snow... and snowtroopers... stationary turrets on the rebelsside... Only troopers though... maybe with a flymod even some snowspeeders... sounds cool =)

i have built a more medieval fantasy map, it is still in progress, but i dont work on it anymore becuase it got too big/detailed. i woudl get like 4fps when looking at town. it included a small fortified town/bazaar, 3 windmills on a hill to the east with a large church. a graveyard with a crypt entrance on the other side. a cave entrance to the south east with the mountains. foliage everywhere a coast of water and various elevation. i might break it into parts but then i dont think it woudl be as playable. so i have started work on another much smaller more"scene" type map.

the thing about different weapons such as swords and hammer and axes, using the saberhilt change feature of JediMod1.2 is that they are all still essentially the same saber. sure a polearm would work differently because the saber woudl be higher up but it woudl still inflict the same amount of damage and use the same animations. the dream list woudl be if each saber could restrict certain styles and have its own amount of damage. such as a large hammer weapon can only use heavy stance but does quite a bit of damage, where as a kryss can use med and light but does less damage. on top of this if the different sabers woudl have to be picked up to use rather than just havig them all available. if a skill system in place possibly having skills that only give bonuses to the use of a certain type of saber. ie fencing, swordsmanship, axeweilding, and macefighting? so they coudl advance their skill in macefighting by using the heavy hammer?

again all of this is advanced stuff and there is no need to be thining of it now. but since im all excited i'll continue :P
everyhtng that i am saying i am thinking in terms of a medieval rpg game but a lot of it is still applicable. such as replaceing regualr axes with vibro -axes to be a worthy opponent of the lightsaber. but if it was purely medieval then there would not be much need for the other weapons other than as cross bows, bows, and the possibility of spell casting. such as having a certain weapo be the fireball spell. mana could be the universal ammo type for these spells such as using the fireball weapon woudl take 25mana and the greaterfireball weapon woudl take 75 etc.

Ok, that was a cheap plug. :D You're website doesn't even explain what it's changing. As far as I know, you don't even need new animations unless you're attempting to redo some of the lightsaber combat.

eck i got the official CHINESE METAL-BOXED neverwinter nights from Hong Kong in the mail today and couldnt even run it because my video card sucks (which is an SiS 630/730) :( just thought i would tell the world about my failure :'(

i need the links to those submission sites or whatever becasuse im almost ready to release version 0.5 because im like 90% done.

Has anyone heard of Starsige: Tribes? well, there is a mod on that game (its an allout MP game), call TRpg, Tribes RPG,the skill system works like this...

u have to get 1000 EXP to get to the next level, which is not a hard thing to do if u fight and kill an nme thats more powerful than u, so what u could do, is, if ur a jedi... to get another FP, Force Point,
u would need 1000 exp, and if u killed like a stormtrooper, u wouldnt get much...say like....50 exp, but if u killed another jedi, u would get another lvl outright, especially if ur just a merc, stormie, whatever.

And the FP's could work like they do in that mod, there are skills u can spend them on, depending on TRpg serv ur at, u get a certain amount each lvl, like the one i goto u get 12 SP, which are skill points, or in this case FP,u could spend them on certain skills, like..... Slashing, for your saber, the higher it gets, the more damage u do, and like, u start out with the defensive lightsaber skill, the blue one, then at like slashing 50 u get the yellow one, then at like 350 u get the red one.

Then u can spend them on things like dexterity, for health or something like that, and agility for speed, and maybe even just the seperate force powers, like u spend alot on Force Light ning, and it will egt to lvl 3 eventually, also, force capacity, so u have more force.

there are also "zones" in that mod, thhe maps are huge, but only a fraction of them encompass the game itself, like there are cities, one of which being Ethren, which are safe zones where u cant be hurt, excet by falling. Then there are nme zones, where u fight nmes and gain EXP, and there is also a place called the "Uber Zone", which is a place where only ppl who have "remorted" can go, remoroting gives u bonuses in defense, damage, and the like.

im still adding some extra stuff to the first release of rpgmod, most of it is saber stuff. Young Obi-Wan (the creator of coolsabersounds [which will be included in rpgmod]) and I have ties and so he is making us an rpgmod "coolsaberblades" file for us and you to use at your benefit. all credit goes to him.

I have not mentioned a lot of things that will probably be in the first release. Im going to try to get Young Obi-Wan as part of the team because he could be a great help in all of our weapon, model, etc needs. If I get PMs asking why or what I will delay the first release for a day because I dont want spam and I refuse to answer those questions.

Ahem, now that thats that lets talk about what ive been doing lately :)

First my failures :

Neverwinter Nights still doesnt work (I know this is the wrong forum and the wrong site to post this on, but hey this is a failure lol) even though I did the """"successful"""" "we garantee your game will work if your using GLDirect and this No-CD Crack and have an SiS Chipset Video Card" which did not work.

Second My New Hardware Stuff that you probably dont care about that im just listing here for no reason whatsoever :

Im thinking about getting a new motherboard that actually has an AGP port (FOR ONCE) and buying a new GeForce 2 Ti200.

Third my successes on RPGmod :

I am working on a couple things like plans etc for the next release. I am thinking about getting a good website up for my right now as I havnt mentioned before 2 Man Team, consisting of my and my imaginary friend who seems to never talk back whenever I ask him a question or just open up a conversation (i hope to get young obi wan on our team) The team which I also havnt mentioned is called MODdev0.

Third on some delay status and maybe bad news on RPGmod :

There might be a delay on the second release (which you guys dont really care about right now but you will soon enuff). I have not seen or spoken with the main leader of the FLYmod Project in a week. This could be just a false alarm, but if not I would have to design a new type of FLYmod personally which would take time.

There's a problem with the motherboard audio chips and NWN. The way to fix it is to get the A3D drivers and install them (even thou your card doesn't support them). I don't remember the exact details but that does work. I had to do that with my copy as well. :P If you want details I'll have to ask my brother, he's the one who knew how to fix it. :)

Is it possible to make it so you can cut off part of the guns??? If so that would be really cool and also..... is there anyways to make a flick off emote??? hehe :eek:

Maybe, I'm sure you could rig it up so you'd lose your gun if someone hit it with a saber blade. However, to visually show a cut up gun, you'd probably have to do a lot of model work....

flick off emote, that would be abusive and give the mod a bad name because some children do play this game online and they know more about computers and the game than you think.
we MAY, although, have a Teenager's Add-On that MIGHT include a flick off emote or something. but right now, if you want a flick off emote, make your own mod.

one of my concerns is the upcoming exsistance of SWG. much like the hunted mod being postponed because of the bounty hunter star wars game nearing release. i see the possibility for a rpg mod following the starwars universe to also be shut down for the same purpose. so i propose to stray from the sw universe into any alternative. coding and dev wise this doesnt change anything skillgain or lvl based system can be created but having the proposed classes of storm troopers and jedi can not. personally as i have stated before i woudl be more interested in a medieval rpg (i have seen Journey of the dark and i think there project is to large to reach a stged of completion) but ofcourse it is all up to you and a scifi rpg would be coded if not easier anyways.

i see this project as happening, as most projects that start small are the ones that usually make it, as the team doesnt get overwhelmed with the thoughts of how much there is to do. and i would not want to see it brought to a hault because of intelectual property issues.

Besides, the combat in Galaxies isn't directly controllable. Comparing RPGmod to Galaxies is like comparing Apples and Oranges. Plus, there's little chance that SWG is going to make it's december release date without being incredibly buggy. They haven't even had a public beta yet!

heh sorry i try to sound more intelligent than i actually am. what i was trying to say is basically a suggestion not to continue with the path of starwars as the theme(which ofcourse is default right now) because i feel that LucasArts might not want some one making an rpg mod using the sw universe when their upcoming rpg involving the sw universe is begining to get buzz.

i completely want this mod to continue and (i know you said no more swg but..) i woudl actually prefer an action rpg like you have mentioned over the mmorpg simply because of player activity. it might be just me but i prefer to actually cut down the ai with a sword/saber rather then double clicking them. what i just said is the possible reason for them NOT wanting a SW based rpg mod to emerge. so i suggested just to change the theme. all the coding and gameplay stays the same (much like bid for power) just with different characters.

i have just about finished a small medieval map, so am now starting to compile what weapons i have made in the past into a JediMod compatable pk3 for saber selection. if the mod takes a medieval path i will be behind you 100% with as much content as i can pump out. ofcourse me prefering fantasy over science fiction this is my suggestion but i would still be extremely happy if the project was still kept in the future. having it be sci-fi also allows the mod to use many more of the maps already made as they woudl fit the theme.

again i coudl be wrong and LucasArts might not try and put a hamper on the mod. it is just purely my concern. and i felt i woudl voice it before it got too indepth with the sw universe (ie: storm troopers, force powers etc.)

The only way LucasArts is ever going to make me stop this mod is if I get an e-mail from George Lucas himself asking me to discontinue and thats very unlikely.

call me heat plz :) hmm i do my work, i just have trouble getting it to the classroom. theres 2 different types of detentions in our school, in school detention and after school detention. you get in school if you finish more than 50% of your paper but its still not completely finished. if you get lower than 50% you get after school which is 3:15 to 5:00 and if I get that im grounded as long as i live.

actually i think the teachers get paid extra for doing it.
last year i had a teacher who would give detention at the drop of a hat. if they do get paid extra heres my chart for her (her name is Ms. Chancellor)

If they pay a quarter per every D-Hall = She'd make 10$ a day

to be president

Anyway, I finally contacted my bro about the NWN problem. According to him, "I deleted the a3d*.* files from the windows system & system32 directories I do belive." I'd be sure to keep backups of those files just in case that doesn't work. :)

keto, the problem is i cant really show it in screenshots. v1.0 is a VERY small mod and only has saber, scaling, and servers for newbies stuff. and i still need a volunteer
