Problem Running Monkey Island 3 On New PC

Hi,

I've just purchased a new PC that has the latest ATI graphics card and an Athlon 2100 XP processor. I've installed Monkey Island 3 onto my computer but as the opening animated sequence plays it keeps skipping forward a few moments about every 10 seconds (it's as if someone keeping hitting fast forward). Has anyone any ideas why this is happening (I'm wondering if my PC is running too fast for the game)? Is there a patch available for the game?

I recently installed and played COMI (with full sound acceleration), and the movie ran fine! I didn't need to change any settings. It could have something to do with my installing DirectX 9.0. The movie played choppy before then.
