LucasTones has unveiled the latest LucasArticle - this one is on the Pirates of the Caribbean, and should be very informative to Monkey Island fans. There is audio and video to download if you wish, and lots of pictures. There are even two comparison pages where scenes from the ride are compared to scenes from the game.
Read the article here (http://lucastones.mixnmojo.com/lucasarticle.html)

By the way, the reason that comic-book-character related films are being made is not Spiderman - It's X-Men, remember? I know for a fact that The Incredible Hulk movie already had a trailer before Spiderman was released. And Batman's always been popular.

Other than that, it's a very informative article, if a little speculative.

D'oh! You're correct, of course. And I should have put X2 in the list of new Comic Book movies. Ah well, the point remains.
Speculation is the key to starting rumours!

Well, I think the Pirates of the Caribbean movie surely will suck. It's a Jerry Bruckheimer production and he's like the worst producer ever. No actor or director can make it good with Bruckheimer as the producer. Hollywood sucks!

09-01-2002, 05:07 PM
How nice of you to have such an open mind.

09-01-2002, 10:29 PM
Yeah, I already knew about the ride thing for awhile, it's been on MIFF (http://www.littlewyng.com/monkey/forums).

09-01-2002, 10:51 PM
indeed, this is cute.

09-02-2002, 11:57 AM
That sure was a Kick Ass ride back in its day!

Ok, ok, maybe I was a bit harsh, but I still think Bruckheimer is a bad producer. I don't think he's ever produced something that you could call high-quality film-making. But maybe, and that's just a tiny maybe, he can get it right this time, although I seriously doubt it.

are you forgetting a little file called "American Gigolo"? And how about the brilliant, heartwarming, touching "Cat people"? And how could we forget the poignant, stirring, emotional, fiery "Flashdance"?

I watch Flashdance every morning when I get up , just to get pumped!

Reading your inspirational wake up routine and then looking over at your avatar and seeing these words coming from Ripburger I couldn't help but laugh for a bit.

I like Bruckhimer movies! Black Hawk Down was nominated for best picture!

09-02-2002, 07:55 PM
Did anyone see the TV show Action - about a movie producer. Peter Dragon always made me think of Jerry Bruckheimer. I don't know if he was the intended target...

That was a great show, pity it didn't last.

And Black Hawk Down sucked. It wasn't a movie, it was a long drawn out action sequence, like a theme park ride, which makes the Pirates of the Caribbean kind of make sense...

Gone in 60 Seconds, armageddon, enemy of the state,

09-02-2002, 09:27 PM
Yeah I liked Action

Peter Dragon rocks

I forgot to tell you all! I've dug up this relic of a post to tell you about it anyway:
The official site (http://bventertainment.go.com/movies/pirates/index.html) for the up-coming Pirates of the Caribbean movie is here, and there's a trailer!
Download the trailer here (http://www.movie-list.com/p/piratesofthecaribbean.shtml) if the link on the main page fails you, like it did for me. The trailer is pretty much just some stock footage of the caribbean with a rather ropey looking (hopefully just an early version, the film isn't out for ages) island in the shape of a skull.
The poster is cool though, and the music in the trailer is seriously good. I hope it is actually music from the movie, and not from something else, as often happens with trailers, especially such early ones. I doubt Alan Silvestri (Back to the Future) has composed much music yet, with so little actual footage, but this music in the trailer is cool.
Anyway, hope you like it. I seem to be the only person interested in this movie, being as its the closest damn thing we're gonna get to a Monkey Island movie. And the cast kicks ass as well!

X-men Was the first of the new-generation movies. Marvel made a bunch of B movies such as Fantastic Four, the old Hulk, and some others I don't Know. They all did poorly.

Then Marvel went bankrupt until they Made X-Men which brought them up from the gutter.

New-Generation Movies-

1. X-Men
2. Spider-Man
3. Daredevil
4. Hulk
5. X-Men 2

The point of that, in case some of you are wondering (or have forgotten, or haven't read my article (http://lucastones.mixnmojo.com/lucasarticle.html)) is that the Pirates of the Caribbean movie could hopefully kick-start a whole load of new pirate movies. This might mean that at some point George Lucas dishes out the Monkey Island license to someone (Spielberg*, or some new-comer) in order to make him some more money. Of course, this would please us.

*Spielberg is one of a select few people on the LucasArts list who get a copy of thier new games before they are released. That is why he went to LucasArts with the idea for The Dig, and so it is possible he's a Monkey Island fan.

I always liked those old adventury swashbuckling movies like Captain Horatio Hornblower (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0043379) and such. But after that so-so (at best!) modern movie Cutthroat Island (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0112760) and that horrid fantasy flick Dungeons & Dragons (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0190374) I had little faith that anyone (but Pete Jackson) can pull off a good pirate movie anymore. LOTR made me believe again!

I liked the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, even if the whole thing looks dated and hokey these days.

In other news, at EuroDisney, my friend threw a lollipop at a plastic goat which was part of the mid-ride scenery.

01-20-2003, 09:28 PM
tsk, thats like spittin' on the cover art of mi2 man!

01-21-2003, 03:54 AM
Not really - it was at EuroDisney.

01-30-2003, 03:56 PM
I was watching RI:SE the other day (I just flicked there by accident of course), and they were talking about this film with MacKenzie Crook (The guy who plays Gareth Keenan on The Office). Well, they didn't really say much, but apparently he plays a pirate with a wooden eye.

01-30-2003, 05:34 PM
Does Martin Freeman play a pirate who hides MacKenzies wooden leg, and his cutlass and his parrot? And then put his wooden eye in a jelly?

05-14-2003, 03:46 AM
You probably knew this, but there is also gonna be a game (http://pirates.bethsoft.com) for Pirates Of The Caribbean. Judging by the published screenshots it's gonna look very nice.

05-14-2003, 11:14 PM
I dunno, they have yet to make a really good game based on a movie. (please don't quote me on that, i haven't done much research.)

btw, Lucastones, I was looking at your avatar and I could swear that he winked at me.

05-15-2003, 06:13 AM
There are quite a few decent movie-based games. Look at all the Star Wars titles LucasArts churn out, a few of them end up good. And then you have Goldeneye, Blade Runner, and many more.

(I didn't quote you on it)

05-15-2003, 07:44 AM
There's also Indiana Jones, Aliens versus Predator (2 movies!), Dune (the Westwood games)...

05-15-2003, 04:38 PM
Jerry Bruckheimer ------------> Action Galore

05-15-2003, 07:17 PM
I told you not to quote me on it. Im dumb and too lazy to do any research. But I still think PITC will be a simply mediocre game.

05-15-2003, 07:22 PM
Since the days when this post was new, lots of stuff has happened. Thank you for reminding me:
First off, a proper trailer - looks like a great film, and damn is Johnny Depp cool. Date of release is 9th July in USA and 8th August in the UK. I dunno if its a coincidence, but its released between the two big Matrix films, so if anyone is stuck for a film to see then this could well be the one. I mean, before I was excited about this film due to the Monkey Island link, but now I just think it looks like a damn good summer action movie. A bit of mindless fun.
