View Full Version : For how long will people play SWGB?
09-07-2002, 03:46 PM
I've been thinking...
Not all viedogames last thru time and the few who are still popular to the older generation are getting ignore by the new one. What is gonna happen to SWGB in five years?
Will it be forgotten?
Will we forget it?
We won't be posting here forever.
When we won't have anything to say anymore we won't posting anymore.
And we already have said a lot and discussed everything we know aboutthis video game.
Is it gonna die?

1) It will be forever lost to the dark hallways of time.
2) Nah, it will be lived through by it's sequel(s)
3) Same as above:rolleyes:
5) Really? ;)
6) Well, I won't say so, since it doesn't live in the first place, unlessumakearobotandstorethegameinit'sbrain,buttha t wouldbecheatingsouwouldhavetogetittotakeoversomepo orhamsters'sbrainwhichsoundslikesomethingfromsherr orfilmbutit'sreality

I think the future of SWGB is already judged - especially online. Scenarios, Scenarios, Scenarios ! Zone is full of them and they are ALL a waste of time.
No thought has gone into any of them and in most cases the host gives themselves a nice advantage with higher attack/hit points.
The zone rooms are full of arrogant children who set out not only to make the zone an awful place to be (by flooding, swearing and breaking most zone rules) then by attack those there to help - the Memberpluses.
I started playing Medievil Total War - which has been given so many positive reviews and was (!) a great game until a major bug had been found where it crashes to the desktop.
So the game has become less playable until they decide to bring out a patch to fix it..secondly, you can only play multiplayer online via gamespy - no thanks.

As soon as time separates players and the game, and other, newer, not yet ruined multiplayer-wise, come out. SWGB will shrivel up into the dark relms of histroy.
DMUK, despite the aggrevations that ESO's invite system brings (its very hard to connect to people and most of your time is spent waiting for someone to invite you into their game), it eliminates the whole scenerios are taking all the rooms problem that killed SWGB. With the invite system, scenerio people can play with scenerio people and never have to bother RMers and DMers again.

DMUK not all scenarios arent thought through, I know mine are although people dont like low hp's and attack they like +20000 hp and +2000 attack.

I am going to keep posting as long as I have ideas for the game or untill I get an official word from Lucasarts that there is not going to be an expansion pack or sequel ever. That would hurt my feelings and disappoint me but i guess that would be life.
09-09-2002, 05:19 PM
I think that some people on the zone are ok but most of them are simply can't seem to admit defeat(i hate that). thus the reason why i don't play online a lot.
I do not believe that there won't be a SWGB 2 or some game that looks like it but with another name....
The only think I can be sure of is the popularity of SWGB will decrease over time(unless they make a second x-pac and then make SWGB 2). if it was me, i would release it by ep3 but we have to wait a long time and people will forget how SWGB was.
The point with why people buy sequels(most of the time) is because the first game was good and they liked it. But if people forget then it will start out like SWGB and get popular only overtime...

Yeah, people will only remember the negative things about the game, and transfer those feelings toward any sequel. Sequels only work if the gme is still going somewhat strong when the seqeul is released.

Now today I have heard from DMUK that Garry Gaber(the game creator) is doing something else not related to SWGB...Does this mean that we won't have a sequel?
09-10-2002, 09:03 PM
I heard the same thing from the same guy. Does he have connections to the guy who created the game? I hope he is not right. This game had alot of positive feedback in my opinion. I hope Star Wars RTS games don't end this year. Rebellion was not good. Everyone who likes the games seems to want an expansion pack or sequel. Why would they not make a sequel at least?

Joe, hes the admin of the most popular SWGB site there is. He might be privy to other info we dont know. Also, i think Garry mentioned it somewhere on this thread or in an interview.

Guys, there is still hope for u left. I know it is not related to SWGB, but that doesn't mean it's not Star Wars, or at the very leist a cool game.
It means to me just not at Xpack or a sequel. Also, it's his current project not related to GB.;)

well if there is no sequal in the coming year or 2 it will be the end of SW RTS and everyone will play first person games. Of course there would be the one or two people who will still play GB.

I shall be one of them!:D
I am confident that someone else will make another SW RTS....
Not very but we must always keep hope....
It won't be as good but it will be something for us......
I'm just trying not to......not to.....:crybaby: :crybaby: :crybaby:

I hope they will to, just in case AoM's addiction wears off(I seriously suffer from AoM withdrawal, that game is a drug)

I have an idea!!! we should flood LA with emails for a sequal, it could work......
I mean could you imagine having no SW RTS it will be Star Trek Galactic BattleGrounds ***SHUDDERS VIOLANTLY***

Trekkies give me the creeps. I would hate it if it were a Stra Trek gme
Dungeon Siege is already stealing my attention, and I still play Unreal Tournament. Once UT2003 comes out you guys will almost certainly be seeing quite a bit less of me. :D

i agreee...im cool

For those of us who spend a lot of time arguing about what might or might not (or should or should not) go into a potential SWGB2, I think it's necessary for people to understand what (apparently) goes on at LA during the course of making a game. Scott R. Kurtz apparently has some insight into it. :)

I do realize it takes months of planning to make a game but this game and it's expansion pack are so cool. It is not the best game in the world because it does have it's faults like not being to scale, etc. I plan on playing this the rest of 2002 and maybe 2003. Hopefully a sequel or expansion pack will come as soon as possible.

Funny comic Kryillth.

The question now is not if there will be another sequel or SWGB2 but it is who will make it?LA of course but without Garry Gaber, who will take his place? And how will it be? Will it be as good?
09-22-2002, 04:40 AM
I for one will play SWGB until another Star Wars RTS comes out.
But lets be realistic. It would be idiocy for LucasArts to bring out another RTS before Episode III comes out. We've only really seen half a movie's worth of the Republic and the Confederacy, so I'm sure there's a whole lot of units we're yet to see. I think if another on is coming, it will come out around the same time as episode III, and definitely not before.

Trekkies are cool, LONG LIVE STAR TREK!!!!!!!!!
Getting back to the subject i would find it rather unlikely that there will be an x-pac, and that a sequel would be released before ep3. Although i do hope there is a sequel...

Figures Windus a trekkie. I play this game not because its star wars, but because its good.

Trekkies are cool, LONG LIVE STAR TREK!!!!!!!!!

Sithmaster, I play SWGB because it is Star Wars.
Trekkies scare me.
I hate the fact that people think because I love Star Wars I must like Star Trek. Star Trek is such a joke.

I believe there are a couple realites that people on this forum are having a hard time coming to grips with.
1. All games get old! Warcraft 2 rocks but how many peple still play it? Or the original Diablo? So yes this game will get old and die off of course but will still be fun to play every now and then. I personally still play it very often.
2. The type of people you find on the zone are everywhere. Their attitudes are not unique to the zone. Play any game online and you will find jackasses that lock up rooms and wait all day for hteir buddies to log on. You'll find people who are rude, who swear, who try to make the game crash. Its everywhere, not just in SWGB rooms on the zone. WE should all be used to this by now. The process is, you log on and you sift through games/rooms and hope you find a good game.
3. AS far as GB sequels goes, I would be very excited if they added an x-pack, but only if they added very new and unique civs. I mean like Twi'lek, Trandoshan, Mon Cal, Bothans and not like Old Republic, New Trade Federation, Post Rebellion and such.
I think the game is very good and has a lot of strategy that isn't found in any other strategy game. Think about it. In most other RTS games all you really needed to do was upgrade until you got that "one killer unit!". In Warcraft 2 it was Knights/Ogres; in Sarcraft it was Cruisers/BAttlecruisers. I cant remeber about red alert but i believed it was some kind of tank. In Myth it was Tree Giants/Drow. All you needed was a lot of those super units and you would win the game. In, BAttlegrounds there is no super unit, you cannot win the game simply by building a lot of assault mechs. And that is true strategy and balance. AS for the graphics, it was announced that they were using the Age of Kings engine so we all should have had our eyes open on that one. I like age of empires/age of kings and i like Star Wars(particularly Darth Maul) so SWGB is a dream come t rue to me. GB also seems to be one of the few RTS games now that retain the total war aspect in giving you land, air and sea. Plus, it has graphics at least as nice as the other 2d rts games like red alert yuri and kohan. Most 3d rts games have units that look really bad, the only one i can think of that has nice unit detail is BAttle Realms but then you only get about 30 units and no navy or anti-air or air. So battlegrounds is a good game and any who has a copy should have been fully prepared for what they were getting since there were gazzilions of screnshots and reviews prior to the games launch. I would love to see an expansion pak, and i will be playing this game for quite some time in the future and the skirmish mode is really fullfilling.
