Do you have to be a jedi to carry a lightsaber or could you be whoever you want and still carry a lightsaber?
Com_Raven would probably know for sure on this.....
My whole thing with that is "why would you want a lightsaber if you weren't a jedi?"
I think if you didn't have the force as an ally, you wouldn't be very good with a saber....a jedi uses the force :D

Interesting question. I'd say no. If you look at Jedi as a class, it should have special weapons only that class can use. Take Diablo II for example, there's Barbarian-only weapons. Can't recall if that's the case for Neverwinter Nights, haven't played in a while...
I'd say it's more realistic with every character able to use every weapon, but it doesn't neccesarily add to the gaming experience. A non-Force user would be, frankly, crap with a lightsaber. What would he use it for? He can't block incoming shots, and he needs to get up close and personal with the enemy to do any damage. He would be shot to bits before he could say 'Crikey'!
So why include it as an option?

well, you could use the saber according to rules...
hope your character is a masochist :)

Yeah I can't see why you'd wanna do that either. Just be a jedi that uses a saber then if you want sometimes use blasters.

yeah, it's kinda suicidal...
