this is a basic jedi body I just started today, only about 4 hours worth of work so far. I planned on using head models from all the characters in the gamewith it until I got a job call. I have about 1 more night to work on it, after that if anyone wants maybe finish it off I can make a little zip pack with an .obj .dxf .iges and the maya scene file.
This is just a sloppy first pass, but hopefully I can get it cleaned up in the next few hours and have something a little better looking.

yeah, it is basic, but basic is good. less is more, you know? not to mention that the skin is what can really make a model shine.
i find it hard to believe that you consider it a sloppy first pass. we are our own worst critics, however.
great job, jolts! keep up the great work! :D

here's a little better view of the model
On the basicness of the model, I'm keeping it that way so its easier for people to add what they want to it, as far as detail on things like overlapping flaps on the robe or something like that, I personally think thats just pointless to model for a 3000 poly model. Details like those should be left in the textures

started a new head to replace the temp kyle head I had in there. I can only show this little teaser, if I did a good job hopefully someone will reconize the person.

Here's a little update on the head
I guess this would be my first pass of the head, that last update was just a flat plane...part of the reason why it was all black...

My goodness that is great. And you're coming along quickly. Very impressive. Let me know if you ever need any sounds or anything. I would be more then happy to contribute to this project in anyway.

Ewww UT2003. Played that thing ...think I got sucked back to the Quake 2 days. Its like your playing Quake 2 with better graphics.....i mean the models, sounds, weapons. yep. Quake 2-ish(cept for the sounds are ....sound exactly like Quake 2 if I remeber correctly.).

Jolts, the model is really coming along nicely :) You might want to split the tabbards though like was suggested earlier
A little off topic but what the hell :)
The textures in the demo are very low rez, they did that just to save space, the retail version will be much prettier.
They only included one model in the demo, and it does look alot like the guys from Quake II in style, but the animations look great. I'm sure with the higher rez textures I'm sure they will look better, plus the ease of modifying the game will see some spectactular user made models :)
The pace of the game is a little too fast to me, but that could be just because I've been playing JKII for so long, I'm definatly looking forward to the retail version though

Yeah I only played the demo for about 3 mins. Either I couldn't get into a server because it...just didn't work for no reason or needed a password. My main prob was that it moved so fast...I'm not really a fan of games that move so fast you can barely tell what is going on. Most of the time I just shot randomly at ppl cuz I couldn't tell if I was hitting them are not. But anyway! Nice model!

I can't wait to model for ut2k3, as far as gameplay..eh..whatever your first fps is, everything after it will seem like a cheap ripoff.

Wow..this model just became one of my favorites. I'm so ready to do a Chiss Jedi.
On a side note, I played UT2003 as well and I honestly don't know what all the hubub is about. I know the textures are a bit crappier to keep size down, but the player models are horribly blocky, the maps are unimpressive, and the gameplay is just plain obnoxious(I want to KILL the countdown voice). Maybe I'll buy it if some good mods come out, but I have the feeling it will be quickly overshadowed by the far more impressive-looking Doom III, both popularity and editing-wise.

Only thing I can see that looks a little off are the ears. The fronts of them sould be flush with the head.

yeah, those ears are just place holders for now, same with the sensitive man ponytail and the pouches on his belt, all those little nernies will be replaced

Great Model Jolts. Obi Wan is my fav character of all time (Since anakin has too be a Spaz in epi. 2) and he's my most favorite in episode 1.

Curious, Jolts have you found anyone to skin him yet? Also, you should think about doin a basic female Jedi next. I'd love to see that. Anyway, it looks good, and keep up the great work.

Well, the whole point of this is to release a modeling kit so people can have a basic starting point to create any jedi. Its quick start, so anyone who wants can skin/bind it. The obiwan head is just something extra to go with it, or possibly come later(trying to finish this tonight).
I should have said this before, this can be considered a wiredlamp studios release from the modeling side. I wanted to have this ready for the release of the coop sdk, you would have your coop sdk and you generic jedi sdk.
If I try and release this tonight I won't have any LOD's with it. I could hold of trying to release it tonight, finish this job I'm about to start tomorrow, then after that release it with all lods/tags.
what do you guys think?
should I start a new thread for obi?

I'd say finish the LOD's. It would only be another day and this way no one gets short changed. And yeah start another thread for obi. It'll draw alot of attention. ;)
hey thats great. I would bring the polies down on the head tho. It looks like there isl oads of polies that you don't need. I wouldn't mind doing a new version of mace sundancer for this mesh as it is a very good basic jedi. And that was what Mace was. Mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org when you have an sdk and uvmaps etc cos I want to skin it big time.

yeah, I made the face dense since I was gonna make a highres subd model out of it, started reducing it. I always like to start out high and work my way down when it comes to game modeling.
right now the polycount for the basic jedi body with little belt things and the kyle head is at 3100 polys. I'll have updated shots later for the body

Some critique. Refer to this pic. The forehead should be longer, the nose shorter, lips smaller, and mouth moved up in position. Also, the hair needs reshaping.

I removed all the old images, everything new is posted in the new thread under showcase/modelling "WIP: Obi wan ep1/ep2 & anakin ep2 by Jolts" here's the link again.
page 5-7 have the most recent pics don't look at anything before that, its been removed. Right now I got word from toonces who is uvmapping obi's body that he is almost done, and I have lods1-2 for the body done. So after I finish third lod, I'll just need the uvmaps for them and its done.
