View Full Version : Uncle Owen: the Truth.

Reading my Star Wars novel, I came across something interesting:

In Return of the Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi was meant to talk to Luke longer about what happened when he separated the twins. In my novel, Obi-Wan says:
"I gave you to my brother, Owen, on Tatooine, and sent Leia to Alderaan."
In Attack of the Clones, however, Owen is the son of Cliegg Lars, who is married to Anakin's mother, Shmi. This makes Owen Luke's uncle, and Luke does refer to Own as "Uncle Owen" in A New Hope. Now, if the novel speaks the truth, then Obi-Wan's father is Cliegg Lars: impossible.

How can Obi-Wan be the brother of Owen? Either this is a massive mistake, or there is one big plot revelation to come, making Obi-Wan Kenobi a relation to the Skywalker family!

you make a good point there,
by no way is cliegg lars obi wans father, if obi was a few years yonger maybe but he is far too old.

my conclusion

OBI IS A STINKING LIAR !

either that or his view on life is different to everyone elses

OR MAYBE, the books hold nothing to the movie, one book says anakin fell into a "molten pit" but as we see in ROTJ that can't happen, so just remember that the books aren't always what truly happens in the SW universe, the movies are, books mean nothing when a movie of SW is involved

the star wars book was ghost written

One word *Cannon* :D

Or, 'Canon' too works.

This goes both ways. Boba Fett was shown flying into the Sarlacc's stomach in ROTJ. This does not mean he's dead, that means as far as we know he is in there.

The book 'Mandalorian Armor' tells what happens afterward, and the movie works - it's not like we see Boba Fett get decapitated like Jango Fett!

sounds an aweful lot like EU to me.........:o

My point exactly.
Don't get me wrong. I love EU but I do not like the EU that conflicts with the movies. And since it does conflict with the movies I do not agree with it.

My book isn't EU, though... the title is "Return of the Jedi", and the author is George Lucas! The fact that it was left out of the movie, though (Obi-Wan going on to explain about Leia) tells me that George Lucas wasn't happy with this version of the story, and re-wrote it for the film.

But when it comes to Cannon the films go over everything including the books. Besides we all know that the Return of the Jedi book was not written by GL. He influenced it but did not write it. Some other guy wrote it for him. The only book that GL wrote was A New Hope.

My, my... so much disinformation, so little time... I was just thinking to myself the other day that it's been a long time since I've gotten into a nice EU-bashing thread (yes, I actually was thinking that... I know, I know... pathetic ;) ). But enough about me, let's talk about the EU!

First of all, ep2 Anakin is correct, the movies and only the movies are canon, with the novelizations and the radio dramas just behind, but they are still apocryphal. The movies supersede everything else with the Star Wars franchise name, including the novelizations, and one novelizations has one of the biggest and most obvious discrepancies in the entire EU. Yes, I speak of the Return of the Jedi novelization!

Now, the Return of the Jedi novelization is written by James Kahn, not George Lucas (I know this because I got the book out of my room and now have it sitting right next to me). The Return of the Jedi script was written by Lawrence Kasdan and George Lucas. I must remind everyone at this point that Star Wars is Lucas' baby, and he has executive produced all of the movies. The director and script writers cannot do the littlest thing without Lucas' approval. He's on set every day, he approves everything in the script and he sees the raw special effects as they come out of ILM. There's nothing about any of the SW movies that does not go through Lucas first.

However, one of the reasons why only the movies are canon is that Star Wars, in Lucas' mind, is ever evolving. I'm sure that this bit of dialogue from the novelization was in the original script. But the only things that matter, that are uncontradictable, are on film (and even then, George tinkers years after the fact... think the SEs). This is one of those instances of George changing his mind, of the story evolving. The story then (1983) was the Anakin falls into lava and Obi-Wan is Owen's brother. The story now, in 2002, is that Owen is Anakin's step-brother (making him Luke's uncle in actuality), and we don't know what will happen to Anakin, but this is where I'm expecting the plot to twist from what we think we know in SW3.

Furthermore, Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker (the novelization of ANH) was not written by George Lucas. Yes, I know Lucas gets writing credits on the cover, but it was actually ghost-written by Alan Dean Foster, author of Splinter of the Mind's Eye.

Do not let the EU enter into your mind when making theories that concern the movies, because more often than not, the just plain do not fit. The movies are what "really" happens in the Star Wars universe, all other sources are either myths or heresay.

It happened to me when I was still in my double digits of posting. We just like the set the story straight that's all. We've seen a lot of these post's and we know the fact's a little more than you do probally. We have seen many of these post's get chewed to death but we just like to make sure that you guy's know is we're just brining up point's and view's. It happened to all of us when we were in the double digit's of posting so don't take it personally. Have a bucket of popcorn on me. :maize:

I'm Darth Vader, I take everything personally. However, I do feel that you have made a terrible mistake: I do not need education on the Star Wars universe! Simply because I mentioned that George Lucas wrote the Return of the Jedi novel (I got mixed up: on the cover it says "Written by James Kahn, Screenplay by George Lucas"), you people think you need to give me speeches, lectures and life stories about Star Wars: forget it!

Not many things anger me, but people who think I need education on Star Wars makes my blood boil! Go preach to some three-year-old Jar-Jar Binks fan!

AAAAHhhhhhhhhh............it's all starting to make sense to me now. Thanks ET for your information.........if this is true, it really explains a lot.

Halo-Sid, the person with the 6 different accounts that said they were leaving LF but never really left??? I think there is a couple names that have to do with 007 as well......hhmmm....

Well, I have gone into hiding (a bit like Darth Bane) until 2005, to prove that my versions of Episode III are correct. Trust me, I know what will happen when the film is released, and you are all fools for dismissing the fact that I am right. Good day to you all.

You didn't have to say that so harshly. We all have opinions on what we think is going to happen. I think your taking it to heart when you shouldn't be.

Some people think they are experts and know everything, ignore them when they go off on tangents. Anyway, the book was written over twenty years ago, it is a mistake.

There is only ONE EXPERT on everything StarWars and that is GL himself.

All praise George Lucas!

Really, some people think that everything revolves around them, but these are simply the people who know very little, and try to hide it behind a mask of lies. People like this Darth Vader 421 and Count Tyranus are probably teenagers with nothing better to do that type abuse at normal, peeaceful people over the internet. That may have sounded like abuse from me, but it was meerely an observation on what I have read. After all, I am a Jedi: incapable of being nasty!

Darth Vader 421, count tyrannus, Holo-sid......are all the same person. There are also a few like commander bond and something else, he has 6 (at least) accounts. I also think this antihero's is another one of his. Someone with too much time........

@DarkJediNut: Hey, the new name sounds pretty cool. I'm still not sure about you possibly returning to the light.......j/k

What you have to do is go to the LF main page and the help/feedback center and post a thread asking for a namechange.......you don't need an admins name just say "admins pls change my name!!"

Also, you will be able to keep your account and I don't think it will affect your post count......better ask to make sure!!

Multiple accounts are against the rules, so why, or how do they get six different ones by the moderators?

Ahhhh from school computers no doubt.

I have not been to school in five years, they told me I was too old and asked me to stop calling... simply make up a bogus e-mail address for each name, keeping your own for the main identity (Holo-Sidious has my true address). Just type in all the information for a new user, then when it comes to e-mail addresses type in something like "ohmygod@hotmail.com". Easy!

If you try to slap two names on one address, they will tell you that a username is already created for that address, and won't let you continue.
