Well I used to have a Voodoo 3500 16mb. I could run the game @ 1280X1024 with up to 4 people in duels and no lag. What I wanted was to be able to play more players obviosly. So I went out and picked up a Geforce 4 4200 TI, And honeslty the graphics are a bit smoother, but still I cannot have more then 4 ppl in a game without significant lag. I dont understand, I was expecting more from this card. Yes I know I have a crap CPU, but still. Geforce 4 is supposed to be the **** right?

What CPU do you have? How many players can you have without any lag?

GeForce 4 MX 420 ;) .

Can run several lightsaber-wielders without any major slowdown, but with several guns and explosions going off it can really chop a couple of frames. Its not the card, it's probably my 600mhz processor....

So it's a budget card. I just tell people "Yes, I do have a Geforce 4..." and leave the MX out, so they can still shiver in pheer at Nvidia's recent line of cards.

I think the new radeon is the GF4 killer though.

I tried the new Radion, pulled it out and put the GF4 Ti back in.

NO! I did not throw it out, I just put it back in the box, it will keep until I need it or I sell it. The features of the new radion are not used by JKII, and the GF4 is still a better all around card in my opinion, at least it works better for me.

GF has solid drivers, ATI's drivers have always been their weakspot.

Ati 9700 Pro

Darth Kaan you obviously have no idea of what you are talking about. Ati did enormous job in fixing thier drivers and the new catalysts works perfectly.

And this cards is better all around...

Whatever...

As I said, the GF4 works BETTER for ME. The catalysts caused all kinds of video glitches on my machine. I went back to the GF4 and have had no problems.

Obviously ATI did not do a good enough job fixing their drivers and anyone who knows anything about their products, knows their drivers ARE a weakspot.

I also have two friends that had the same less than pleased experience with the ATI 9700 card. It is overpriced and MOST games currently out, don't use its advanced features. I learned my lesson and sold the card today for half what I paid for it and told the buyer why. My next card will be a newer generation GF. I know they have solid drivers.

I am very well aware of, and do know what I am talking about. I suggest you take some reading comprehension classes. They will help you understand the subject matter in posts before you reply to them.

Specter pokes KaAan

Oh sorry i did not know you chose card by brand and not by quality...like i said, you obviously haven't done enough testing to fix your problem. You might want to try these (http://mirror2.ati.com/drivers/wxp-w2k-r9700-6-13-10-6193-efg.exe) beta drivers if you have XP/2000. And of course a Radeon 9700 Pro unless your post was only free bashing of ATI without actual testing. You might note that anyone who knew a little about ATI knew about the drivers issues. But you might also take into account that anyone who keeps himself informed, even if it's not often, knows that ATI made enourmous leaps in the drivers domain, and that most, if not all issues are fixed.

I hope they solve your problems!

But whatever, since your argument is air-tight (http://www.winternet.com/~mikelr/flame78.html) i'll just stop arguing there...

Good day!

Beta drivers for a 400 dollar card? LOL!

Well thanks for the advise... but I learned my lesson about ATI cards through the best research available, trying one. I solved my "problem" by putting a real card back in my rig. :D

I prefer ATI myself. However, NVIDIA and ATI have both had their share of problems, be it drivers or other issues. Neither company is immune from difficulties.

Agreed. I bought the ATI 7000 way back when it came out and it was a solid performer and my first 64mb vid card. I have just had such stabile performance with the newer GF cards that my experience with the ATI 9700 turned me off to their products.

I gotta GF4 ti 4400 with 128mb on an athlon 1.4 with 1 gig ram, no problems, no fuss. I run at 1280xsomething or other with full detail and can play any map with no frame drops. Good card good price too, £150. no problem recommending one!!!:D

I have a GF4 MX 420...and despite what everybody says about it's crapness, it works great with games, and if you are on a tight budget, it is a very efficient and effective card.

well, a little while back i decided that my crappy comp (the one in my room, the other few comps in my house were ok but i prefer to play JKii in my own space) needed upgrading. it WAS a 450mhz 12gig HD pos with 128mb SDram and an ati rage 128 vid card. needless to say it sucked for games. so i went out one day and did some screwin around at the store ended up with very little money from my work account left but a kt3 ultra 2 motherboard with a GF4 mx-440 and a 1.3ghz duron processor. its not top of the line but it runs JKii and wc3 so why would i complain?

quick question for the more knowledgable ppl among us: whats the dif between a gf4 mx-420 and a 440? (please dont say 20 and leave it at that i really am curious).

the only problems i have with it in jkii are that sometimes i see through the walls in small places. i mean i see a thin line of yellow thats from the outer area that isnt part of the map (i explored using noclip and came to this conclusion) it only happens in certain places and i was wondering if other ppl had similar problems

I got my GeForce4 Ti4200 for only $125 off ebay... Brand New too. My friend got a Soyo KT400 Dragon Board for only $100... not bad deal at all... He is thinking of going with XtremeDDR memory eventually.
