View Full Version : Who else is looking forward to STALKER: Oblivion Lost?

Some of you may know that I'm an avid gamer, always looking out for the next interesting title to keep track of and add to my wishlist. One that's been on my wishlist a while is S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Oblivion Lost, a game in development from GSC Game World. It's seen some changes since it was first announced (switching from an off-world setting to focusing on the area around Chernobyl), and I think it's all the better for that.

The premise is that you are a Stalker, sort of like a Freelancing mercenary-type, who goes into The Zone (the area around Chernobyl in the near future) looking for artefacts, etc. that you can sell to underground organisations. Anyway, you can check out the backstory in detail, along with some screenshots at the official site (http://www.stalker-game.com/index_eng.html). *warning: may take a while to load*

The most recent screenshots look truly amazing - and the game is approaching an almost photo-realistic look. Personally, I think the 007: Nightfire game which is soon to be released could have benfitted from this level of detail - as it's based in the real world.

I was just wondering if anyone else had heard of this title, and whether you're looking forward to it when it's released next year?

Also...do you think graphics of this calibre are now essential in games aiming for a more realistic feel? Should older game engines now be decommissioned, as it were, or is there still some mileage left in them as long as the gameplay is up-to-par?
