Toonces was kind enough to send me a beta of his Mace Windu model. So now I've had a chance to implement it in my upcoming SP level. Check out the shots:

wow! can't wait! i was a huge fan of your JK1 maps, especially "Search for Leia." Any chance for a sequel? heh ;)

On the saber lock pic, is that a weighting error or is that normal? the arm looks out of place or something....

Toonces

Nah, that's one of the problems I'm trying to work through. Working with the animation system for JKII is a total pain.

AKPiggott, you made maps for JK1? I'll have to go over to the Massassi temple and check them out, I used to download and play everything that came out for JK, I bet I played your maps and never even knew it :D

mariners2001
11-07-2002, 07:49 PM
oh man, his maps are classics. i don't know how much i would've liked jk1 if it wasn't for his SP Levels. come to think of it, ak, did you make mostly mots sp levels?

Anyway, here's my fav.:

idontlikegeorge
11-08-2002, 12:42 AM
yeah, i really like how you go for a complete package, with the new opening scene, and cutscenes.... is it going to be a single-map episode, however?

thats one thing i didnt like about alot of custom JK/MotS maps, was it was blah blah part 1 = 1 map. why not a 3 map mini-series?

Elijah

My JK1 levels were pretty rubbish. I got much better when I started editing MotS, so download my MotS levels instead.

Probably not. I'm leaving it open for a sequel. But in case I don't want to make a sequel when the time comes, the level won't need one. So it does have a conclusion, but it also leaves lots of room for sequels. I have two sequel ideas swimming in my head, but we'll have to wait and see.

AKPiggott

Dunno... you'll have to ask Anakin....

I got the cutscenes to work from an Elite Force tutorial that someone gave me in the same thread, Anakin. I don't have the link anymore though.

AKPiggott
11-21-2002, 05:00 PM
Well, if this level proves popular enough, I've got two more sequel ideas up my sleeve. Mace will be the main character in both, but I could just as easy introduce Jedi allies like Yoda, Ki-Adi, Plo Koon, Kit Fisto, etc.

Darth Loki
11-21-2002, 10:47 PM
Looks good AK. It would be good to have some other jedi allies as well, for the fact that this map will be much like a mini movie, and alot of people that like the more obscure jedi (plo, ki adi, aayla) will be able to see them in action.

AKPiggott
11-22-2002, 04:34 AM
Yoda will be the only other Jedi in this one, he'll appear briefly in a hologram.

Arco:deathii:

AKPiggott
11-22-2002, 04:28 PM
Cheers Arc, for a full answer to your offer check the Massassi thread.

Anakin - it's so easy, you'll kick yourself when you find out. Basically look at the SP files in the "strip" directory in assets0.pk3. You'll see that a SP file with the same filename as the map has to be created in this directory and the text for each sound file is defined here. When you play the sound in a cutscene (providing you set it through the voice channel), the text will automatically display.

AK, Arco and Myself are trying to cook up a little something special for this level. What we're trying to do may not be possible so I don't want to announce anything just yet, but with a little luck we'll be able to include something extra special for this level :D

heh, I wouldn't make that bet with you because you'd probly win ;) It's nothing super revolutionary, or something that hasn't been done before, but it's definatly cool IMO for JO fans. It's definatly on now btw, but I'm not sure if AK want's it announced just yet.

Emon
12-06-2002, 05:59 PM
1. Actually, don't tell me what it is yet. Only tell me if you have problems with it! :)

2. AK, I just asked that same thing on the Massassi forums a day ago. I don't think there really is any good software, not that does sound anyways.

cl_avidemo 1 will capture a crapload of screenshots in TGA format, but performance suffers. The best I've gotten it to work is when I run in 640x480 (plenty for a trailer), 16-bit color, vsync off, and even then it's pretty slow.

For audio, you could plug your audio out into another PC, or even your own.

The way they do those game trailers for JO and stuff is probably use the TV-out and go to either a digital camera or a video in on another PC or workstation of some type, and do the same for the audio.

WhiteShdw
12-06-2002, 06:13 PM
I actually want to know as little as possible about this level. I saw some of the screens a while ago and it looks like AKpiggot's working on something really special.

So like with movies, i wanna go in spoiler free. I will be hard to ignore all the pics and comments in this thread. I don't even wanna beta test.:)

On another note, I finally managed to track down a copy of JK1 and finished it. I know AKpiggot did a lot of editing on that game as well. So I want to know which SP mods I should check out for that game.

AKPiggott
12-07-2002, 04:36 AM
If you have MotS White, just download BoaM and ToaM (from massassi.net). They're the only ones I made that are worth downloading.

I've always been in two minds about the trailer. There's lot's of cool stuff I want to show everyone, but at the same time I've been very secretive about what happens in this.

WhiteShdw
12-07-2002, 07:24 AM
Yeah, i got MOTS too. It was a complete package in one DVD keepcase. I'll check those levels out :).

As for the trailer, if you really want to make one, don't reveal the best stuff. I hate going to the movies and finding out that all the best stuff in the movie was already in the trailer and that i'd already seen it like 20 times.

Emon
12-07-2002, 11:35 AM
I'd get BoaM SE, ToaM 1 and 2, and ToaM 2 - BTM.

AKPiggott
12-07-2002, 02:26 PM
Maybe one day I'd make ToaM3 for JO... I'd have to make it cleverly though. It'll need to somehow tell the backstory in an entertaining way for those who haven't played the originals. Emon knows what I'm talking about.

Emon
12-07-2002, 09:40 PM
ToaM 3 for JO would work if Raven makes an expansion with better guns or more externalized weapon data to edit.

I'm not sure how you could explain the backstory of ToaM, the opening title crawl can do some of it, but not more of the details.

AKPiggott
12-08-2002, 09:59 AM
Well, basucally the only thing that'll need to be told is that Fett has captured Kyle on Mohc's payroll. Other details from the plot could be referred to later on in the level.

WhiteShdw
12-08-2002, 11:08 AM
I have to agree with Emon here. I don't think JO is much fun as a straight shooter. The guns just aren't that good. After playing JK1 and a little bit of BOAM SE, I'd have to say that the guns in the original were a lot more effective.

I was pretty happy when i finally got my lightsaber in JO.

Is it even possible to get new weapons in JO? I've tried it a little bit, but I wasn't succesfull.

Raven did release the SP source for Elite Force a little while ago, maybe they'll release it for JO as well.

AKPiggott
12-09-2002, 06:24 AM
Thing is Elite Force wasn't overseen by LucasArts... it's them who have the last word.

wedge2211
12-09-2002, 10:54 AM
Can the EF source be used in JO, as they're both Q3A engines? Especially for weapons that don't involve changing the unchangeable animations...I dunno, I'm not a coder.

Nice level, by the way, I can't wait to give it a spin.

Emon
12-09-2002, 07:19 PM
Unfortunatly, wedge2211, no.

Hey Ant I was wondering about Mace's Lightsaber style in your level. I was playing with Jedimod a little bit ago and found that the purple lightsaber style is kinda how Mace fought in AotC, you know with alot of spins and what not. the only problem with that is the idle animation where his arms look like they're glued to his hips, but if you used the idle animation from the orange one handed lightsaber style I think that would be perfect.

and if you need any help with skinning, I could help. just like old times for the SWTTC and TPMTC (what a waste of time those were)

告th Lord
12-18-2002, 03:55 AM
oh I forgot, if you need examples of my current work, just look left at my avater for my Darth Sidious skin for Toonces' model, as well as the blue ctf for the Kit Fisto Model, and the Red CTF (facial texture) for Qui-Gon Jinn

Lord Tnuc
12-18-2002, 04:02 AM
and if you need any help with skinning, I could help. just like old times for the SWTTC and TPMTC (what a waste of time those were)

Does this perhaps mean that there is/will be no TPM TCin the works? In my oppinion, that TC would be really nice.

And I agree about the saber style/stance, by the way. That would indeed be utterly perfect.

告th Lord
12-18-2002, 09:29 PM
I meant TPMTC for MotS....Not JO. My main gripe with total conversions are they never get finished.... I found that out first hand. the problem with total conversions are that they try to complete everything at once, instead of one level at a time. The Phantom Menace and Star Wars Trilogy Total conversion were working on theirs for 2 years...then it bombed due to lack of interest and lack of production... like I said a big waste of two years

idontlikegeorge
12-19-2002, 02:22 AM
hehe back in the day i remember saying something on massassi forums, along the lines of, "if the tpmtc spend as much time on their project as they do on their website, it might get done someday!" and subsequently got flamed by everyone on that team
:p

yeah, about the saber stance, that would be a cool addition... although personally, i dont like custom saber styles in SP, i mean it works, but it doesnt really work, cuz you can only change the animation, not the damage, and other aspects of it (for SP)

i hate how damn limited the modding for SP is. i really do. i dont like SW quake, damnit. i like the DF/JK/JO sp series.

告th Lord

AKPiggott
12-21-2002, 07:02 PM
This thread is still going?

Even if I could change the saber combat system I wouldn't. My general idea of making levels is to make something that fits with the resources of the game in a way where the player can take what he knows from playing the original game and play the level that way. There are two new guns in this level, but they are basically remodels of the Bryar Pistol and the Stormtrooper Rifle, which is fine by me. I'd much rather spend more time on making the actual level than ponce about tweaking little bits and pieces.

As for TCs, a complete waste of time and talent. I'd rather all editors were out for themselves and worked on their own individual projects.

Lord Tnuc
12-22-2002, 07:53 AM
Speaking of changing the saber combat and whatnot...how would one go about making a small mod that will change the saber stances to each saber style? I'm not talking about elaborate combat changes..just how a person holds their lightsaber. I've seen this done in another mod a long time ago when I first got JKII, but I haven't been able to find it again. I posted a thread in the General Editing forum, so if anyone could answer that, it'd be cool.

Chucking loads of snipers in is just a lazy and crap way of making it challenging. So no, I'm not gonna be putting any of those in, you can be sure of that.

wedge2211
01-08-2003, 10:51 AM
Well, one or two is a perfectly logical thing to do, but yeah, ns_streets just kind of gave loads of snipers the Ultimate Sniping Positions and made it bad.

I like how the levels themselves have a purplish tinge, to go with Mace. And I'm getting antsy, I wanna play it! Demo demo demo!

Klorel

hmm odd... I actually liked the snipers... (when I had my own sniper rifle of course -- or the weak gun, i'm really good at aiming with that and the snipers made for good precise drive-by practice with that). Felt kind of like enemy at the gates. What would be cool if there were just one or two maybe, and you could sneak up behind one of them while they are looking down for you, pull thier rifle away, kill them, then shoot the other one across the way. It doesn't have to be a lazy way to make it challenging if you aren't lazy about how you do it... hope that makes sense. Its also a good way to slow you down through a level, cause narshadaa streets wasn't very big, but the illusion was there because each sniper was a little mini task in itself, so you could make some parts of the level last a little longer and be a little more memorable with just 1 or 2 snipers, nothing excessive, just a little challenge.

just my 2 cents.

-Klorel

Sometimes they were fun, like in the hideout level where I could chuck det packs into their little holes or use force speed to run around the wall the snipers hid behind and slash them all before the first one even had a chance to react. :D

I really wish outcast would let you shoot while "leaning" (use+strafe) like EF did, it would have made dispatching the snipers much easier.

I'm still waiting for the level, where you are walking down a street filled with neutral NPCs, and then a sniper starts firing and innocents NPCs start dying all around you. With suitable collection of waypoints and a script to give the NPCs a little extra speed, they would run this way and that, possible screaming incoherently to heighten the panic stricken atmosphere, few would even stop to (or still running) shoot with poor aiming everywhere.

Too bad my own project is compelety unsuitable for that kind of scenes.

I'm pretty sure that AKPiggot said that the level takes place on Malastare, not Courscant.

AKPiggott
01-22-2003, 01:46 PM
It's supposed to be Malastare but I've taken a bit of creative license with it. I've basically got the purpley, rocky feeling of Malastare from the pictures I've looked at. But the planet isn't nearly as urban in any of these pictures as I've made out. My original version of the level was more faithful, but this looks and plays much better and that's what matters.

wedge2211

"They have Pod Racing on Malastare...very fast, very dangerous."

The one mention of that planet in the movies, TPM. And there is a whole set of pod races on Malastare in the pod racer game. You could check those out for scenery. Like you said, not very urban, but there's probably a city here and there if it's well-known in the galaxy. Any chance you'll be working pod racing into the level, in any way at all? (Not necessarily actually HAVE a race to participate or watch, but just posters on a wall or something, or people gambling on the results.)

Emon
01-22-2003, 09:31 PM
You could make a little pod racing animated texture or ROQ to play on a wall, just like they had in the cantina in EP2.

If a ROQ won't work right, or is too hard to do, you could just take a few screenshots of a Malastare pod race from the Pod Racer game, and assemble them into an animated texture. If you don't have the game, I'm sure someone else would take the shots for you (I would but I don't remember where my CD is; if you're interested, let me know and I'll look for it).

I forgot to mention, but I did use Episode I Racer as reference too. There's this green liquid that dominates the planet shown in that game, but I've decided not to use it because it doesn't conform well to the colour scheme I'm using.

I was thinking of putting a track in my original version of the level. A track wouldn't fit here but I like the idea of referencing it. I'll see what I can do. Basically in my level I am making the story and gameplay aspect of it first and adding all the immersive city-like bits in afterwards (hence the lack of NPCs).

Great idea Emon. I've got Episode I Racer, yes. So I might give that a try. I could do some giant holoscreens or something and place them around the level.

Matt-liell: You put system/physics clip or system/clip brushes around it. Read RichDiesal's tuts on the subject. :)

AK, looks good! I like the way you've adapted the standard JKII textures for use in your map (I recognize the Lady Luck hull plates on the wall in front of Mace). The fog also gives a nice ambiance, even in fairly close-rage shots like these; really looks like a smoggy industrial area. Keep it up!

AKPiggott
01-25-2003, 04:49 AM
Cheers. I've got no time to make my own textures (I'd rather devote more time to the level itself) and JK2 doesn't have that many textures that suit the theme, so modifying existing ones does the job perfectly without wasting much time.

Well, I've been looking in to Sp, and I've got to say that I'm more than curious about why SP's framerates are SOOooooo much higher ... with so many things physically ripped from the MP engine, it just seems odd to me that SP holds up almost twice as well as MP.

I'd say that I'd be more than willing to work on SP, if we had the SP SDK.

I want to make another "oaM" (it'll be probably be a new series that takes place after ToaM2), but I'm not sure about JO with it's lack of good guns. I'll probably end up making a sequel or two for Party Crasher and go back to the "oaM"s with a future Star Wars FPS.

AKPiggott
03-02-2003, 09:18 AM
ToaM2 was a lot better than ToaM1 I thought. I took my time more with it and it did bolder things than the original.

Here's a status update I wrote over at TACC:

Party Crasher is, in its current state passable as a finished level.

At the moment, I'm really just addng all sorts of atmospheric touch-ups to the level which are making a huge difference. I won't tell you any specifics, because it'll just add to the "woo" factor if you see / hear about it for the first time when you see it in the level.

I'm also planning on doing an alternate path bit at the end and adding an extra puzzle at the start, which is just a couple of days worth of work.

After that though, I've still got some outside resources to wait on so I can't really give an estimated release date. All I can say is "When It's.... err.. Finished".

Toonces is making a model for me, but I haven't heard from him in ages and he hasn't been replying to my e-mails. I've got lots of voices that I am waiting on as well as some skins and other little bits and pieces. Bottom line is, I can't release the level until I have all these outside resources. Fortunately, I'm going to polish the level up a bit more than I originally intended, seeing as I won't be able to release it as soon as I wanted to.

Eldritch
03-02-2003, 09:26 AM
Well, I guess that qualifies as both good and bad news, eh AK?

I'm glad that you'll be able to further shine it up, but if you're waiting on Toonces for a model it might be a while - he's barely around here anymore (I think he went back to school again) due to real life issues. Have you tried PMing him as well as emailing?

AKPiggott
03-03-2003, 05:08 AM

The thing that's holding back the release date is a few external materials like new voices.

The main problem is performance. I have a mid-high end system, and it runs like crap in most parts. I know it has nothing to do with my machine because there are triangles drawn in places that they definatly shouldn't be, and the r_speeds kind of sucks.

We're working on fixing the problem.

I sure hope DAK get's back from South Dakota soon, before he kills another one of your projects, Anthony.

Sorry, but DAK is very very busy. I very rarely hear from him and I already have a huge waiting list for voices myself. This is one of the biggest factors in the level's delay.

The thing that's holding back the release date is a few external materials like new voices.

I still blame DAK for the death of ToaM 3!

Anthony I would and I know Anakin would love it if you could send that guy over our way when your finished with him. Tell him to contact us at AOTCTC. We need a mace voice. Very very bad.

Not attemtping to thread hijack here...(gets out crowbar) but if you're really desperate for voice actors and DAK isn't avaliable I know quite a few good voice actors due to my SP mapping, I could give them all your email and tell them if they are interested they should email you some samples or soemthing if you want, keen?

DAK has already done most of the voices. There's no way someone's going to replace him after all the work he's done. Not when it's that good.

That's not what Kengo meant, he was talking about the Jedi Oucast movies. Speaking of which, DAK (or Antizac as he's been calling himself here) has been monitoring this thread, so if he's interested I'm sure he'll say so.

AK, if you're still watching this thread, I really would not object at all if PC was released just with subtitles...it looks too amazing for a few voice actors to cancel the whole project, there was too much good work put into this. And hey, if your original voice actors aren't delivering...time to find substitutes, eh?

Any way you do this I bet this will be one of the most-played JO levels for a while.

I don't want to bug you AK but it would be a shame for this project to go down the crapper. I followed your work for quite some time as I played JK and all your stuff and also I edited myself in TPMTC for MotS and now I am working in AOTCTC fo JO .Anyway to get to the point I just want to know the whats the word on your project here? Don't complain he will finish it when he does. I can't wait to try it out myself but for now lets wait patiently and keep things cool, we wouldn't want this to turn into another forum thread like WIP: Tercero-Anakin Model. LOL lets keep it cool.

I believe KaiaSowapit is releasing his new Yoda (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=95241) soon, which includes facial bones.

I've seen Toonces around, but he's so busy with real life affairs he hasn't spent much time here.

Why not release what is completed, then perhaps if you feel the need to later, given the resources you originally wanted, make a "special edition" version.

From what I gather, it's all aesthetic concerns right now, don't let sad circumstances concerning aesthetics kill this project!

Please, for the love of god, this map has to be released! It would be the first time in three months that I would fire up JK2!

I've decided I'm not going to release this level. Simply because I am not happy with the quality of it. There are too many unrecoverable technical problems with it and I'm not willing to release something like that. I've also lost a lot of interest in the game as well. However, maybe I'll start working on something new when JA comes out.

I really feel for you Ant, I've come close to projects dying on me a few times, but nothing like this. Just nearly losing a map caused a near full day of deep depression, this is something else - as dissapointed as everyone is that this level won't be coming out, I'm sure you must be feeling a lot worse, you put in a lot of time and effort, and I'm sure everyone will appreciate that after the dissapointment wears of a little. I'd like to offer to try to finish this off for you, for what its worth, although I don't really think I'm good enough to have a right to offer...I thought I would all the same, even thought I'm sure you'll want to lay it to rest. Anyway, I totally respect your judgement on this as I think everyone else should, as far as I'm concerned you're the man when it comes to SP map editing and quite simply the person most qualified in the whole community to make the decision!

Louis

Man this really sucks...I mean I dunno you could at least put it out as an unfinished beta or something! At least we could appreciate what might have been. Oh well...

Eldritch
06-30-2003, 09:28 PM
As much as it sucks, I have to agree with AK. I think that he doesn't want to put something half-assed out for the public, and that's his right to do as the creator.

If it's ever done one day, that'd be great. But in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't really matter that much.

06-30-2003, 09:34 PM
I just feel upset that his months of work should go to such waste. It was going to be the best SP map ever made for Jedi Outcast. He spent so much time and effort for a map that is never going to be released. It's so sad. :(

If all that was left was a few lines for Mace and a Yoda model with a face, why not just live with a Yoda that can't move its mouth (really, no one would complain), and fudge the Mace dialogue, or cut it, or whatever? Really, that's all I heard was left, and that's no reason not to trash such great work just like that...

ewok mercenary
07-02-2003, 04:57 AM
What exactly are these "unrecoverable technical problems"? I'm sure whatever it is can't be that bad for the level and nobody wants to see all this hard work go to waste. Even if you don't think it's good enough to release, it'll still probably be awesome.
Releasing a great level with some problems is a lot better than letting all that time and effort go down the drain and not releasing it at all.

Please, seriously reconsider this AK.

DarkLord60
07-02-2003, 07:53 PM
KaiaSowapit needs help with his yoda in order to finish it. I talked to him and he told me he wants to finish it but cant find anyone to help him. I forggot exactly what he needs but everyone at AOTCTC is to busy or cant help. and as far as voices so what who cares about them.

AKPiggott
07-03-2003, 07:51 AM
I don't look at this as a waste at all. I've learnt an awful lot about JO mapping making this level.

I'm not willing to release this level without the voices either, that will make it unfinished. I'm not interested in releasing unfinished projects.

Some of the testers with the very best machines suffered considerably with the technical framerate drops. It would be unwise for me to release this level when even the very best computers can't enjoy this level to the potential of which I designed it. The bottom line is that some areas were built quite sloppily, I didn't fully understand caulking and area portals and everything else so I simply didn't implement them. I've tried adding all that stuff in to make a difference and it makes a minute one at best.

I don't expect all of you to understand my attitude in this. Bottom line is I've been making SP levels for years now and it's inexcusable of me to release anything of any low standard, technically or from a design point of view.

Maybe I will work on a smaller scale project as a filler for when JA comes out.
