Cool, I love Ponda Baba!
One thing though, Ponda Baba in the Ep. IV wears a long-sleeved jacket. I believe it was in the Star Wars Christmas Special that he wore a short-sleeved one.
It’s hard to tell in this picture, but you can see what I'm talking about if you look REAL close....

Just a few more things....
1.) I think the jacket's sleeves could be longer.
2.) You might want to make him a belt with a belt buckle (like the figure).
3.) You could smooth out (modeling wise) the top of his feet.

Cool, he's looking even better!
One thing though...from the new picture you posted, it appears as if his feet/boots still have a big seam or crease on the top portion of the feet that go up to the leg. So, you could try to further smooth those out or you could make new boots -- they might turn out nice. :)
And, oh yeah, I can't wait to see the more detailed face.

Ok... you have 2 choices as for what you can do with Mr. Baba's hands.
1. His actual hand: A big tenatacle tipped flipper thing with suction cups.
2. His chopped off ANH prop accident hand: Humanlike hand with claws and fur.
Which one you do is all up to you, but I recommend the flipper-tentacle hand, as that's what the Aqualish species actually has.

actually, there are sub-species. some have the flippers, other have 5 (or 3 in the case of prequel aqualish) fingered hands. both the essential guide and the ponda baba action figure have the latter (5 fingures).

i was trying to make a test for it ingame (glm file),.. but i dont understand whats on the addendum text,....
i must use the allign tool (select the bolt_, press alt+a and then select what i want to allign the bolt to).,.. i dont know how
Also i dont know how to put on the skin in 3ds Max :(

Hands and Boots :
hmm dunno if i change that,... i must know what other guys think of it :) it has now three fingers ,... i can still change it in a few secs. The boots are now different, it had shoes now it has real boots like the actionfigure.
Head :
It also have some hair on the lower of his head ,.. i dont know how to gonna make that ,.... maybe someone could bring a shader on it :) ,.....
Im still working on the eyes ,.. so it looks more "evil"",.. it also have more detail (not much),.. new pics soon ;)
Torso and Legs:
I have worked on the shoulders and the rest of the arm it looks better now. :) Some guy told that the color of the jacket is not right :confused: what color must it be ? darker/lighter ?
I need pics of his legs, I have the actionfigure of it its kinda dark braun.... i have done it like that, but i need to see the right color that they use in Episode IV.

It's moving slowly...i got to hang out with good buddies of mine for these few past weeks so very little has been done.
I'm not the quickest "compiler" out there but i'll do my best.

Here's what i've done this weekend:
-Added sections to the knees
-Fixed a big hole in the hands
-Deleted unecessary faces for the torso (under the jacket)
-Mirrored the head/mouth for symetry
-Welded some vertices (open edges)
-Fixed some holes in the shoulders
Today
-Weighted/linked the whole thing together
-Sucessfully exported to .glm with error message...
What needs to be done:
-Caps/Re- Hierarchy
-Weight the fingers
-Reduce the number of polys on the head (that's the error message from carcass...)
I'll send the early beta to scout tommorow (it wont load in JK2 but it works fine in modview.)

Alright now i'm pissed, everything should be ready to go in-game but the game itself, not carcass, is saying bones are missing or animation invalid or somthin like that.
Everything looks fine in modview, but i noticed the compiler reports only 30 bones present, wtf is that? my other models have at least 60 including facial anims.
Other models work fine in game...so i dunno what the hell is going on.
I usually fix what's wrong when i get error messages, but i get none this time. :mad:
Anyone can help?

I fixed it, i had to re-do the weighting from scratch using another skeleton, it works in-game now.
I still have some problems that i didnt have before (mostly related to how the arms were attached to the chest)...this model is cursed!!!!! :eek: I hope another chest re-weight can fix that.

That's still possible, i'll just create a separate mesh and weight it 100% to 1 bone. The uvmap of the pocket will be added on the current torso texture.

I could do the pocket. I think we wont see much of it, most of the time the left arm covers that part. try to skin it and see how it looks, this will give you a good idea on how it'll be visible.
The belt is already there (the torso_hips surface) i could add a little "bump" on it so you can have that silver thingy?.
From a distance it wont get noticed much.
Just send me the new skins (for the belt), i'll also fix some uvw maps.

that pocket dosent need to be modelled onto the model does it? you can just add it to the texture... thats much easier cuase like scout said, its very flat... hope you guys know what i mean;)

@ SCOUTTROOPER ok heres what i have so far, aliens are tough to find, but things non-human sounding can be seen as alien.

Hey all! I'm just gonna say one thing.
The pocket cant be skinned without an actuall model of it, cuz if u try, it will happen on both sides of the vest.
[Edit: And can u try to model the, ehm, things on his arms on the vest?]

I can unwrap a small part for the left side of the vest so it can be painted only on that side and not both.
Im going to model the Senator version of the Aqualish specie too !!!!
Does that mean i'll have to weight another freak? that wasnt part of the deal! ;P
I plan on finishing Ponda today but i dunno how long it will take...

That image is copyrighted to me and neomarz...you should have asked first...but it's no big deal, you can use it ;)
I'm not gonna model the ripples on the jacket, because first of all it's not my job, Scouttrooper asked me to weight the model...and that's what i'm doing!. As a bonus i fixed errors in the mesh and uvw mapping.
And i guess making those "lines" would require much more polys.
So for now i say: nope...
Scout: I've done a small tutorial on how to use the skin modifier...i will add more sections when i have time.
If you happen to read it, you could give me some feedback so i can know how helpful it is for "beginners".

oke , the eye shader works :) SupremePain and Wolfey are doing some skinning work, Teek and i tested some sounds ,
I hope PsykoSith could work on the top of the head its to flat, also the cheeks are not smooth.

That should have been done before weighting and segmentation (for export reasons i had to detach the face, too many verts) but i can make the head a bit rounder and fix the cheeks.

I've just sent the updated GLM to u Scout.
I didnt do much for the cheeks, i dont have any pics to see how smooth they need to be.
Can the beta testers check any problems with the caps?
What is the command to activate dismemberment?, it never works for me! unless i play on-line.

Ponda Baba Sounds:
I have record some sounds of Ponda Baba when he is in the cantina, when he graps lukes shoulder, he is talking a little weirdo stuff, and when he lost his hand he's screaming a little, think i can use it for the dead sound (not tested),
Ponda Baba Shaders:
It already has a glowy eye shader but if you look at his neck, you can see lotta hair on it, i realy like to know how i can add a hair shader on the pondababa model neck... someone must know it, its also used on the Wookie model. Can someone tell me how ?

Load up the wookie in modview that'll answer a lot of questions...you basically extrude faces and use TGA alpha channels to "remove" parts of the polygon that will not be seen...creating what appears to be strands of hair.

hello everybody,
scouttrooper send me, I am supposed to say something but I don't have a clue what to say..... oh, I should just ramble something, ok that shouldn't be to hard..... well last I was at a party with my mandalorian armour on and... oh, it should be something about the skin or model ... ok.. hmm..
well okthe model looks really good, but the skin isn't really good, its too... wel there should be more ehm... you know... like... you should see some wrinkles in his *buttface*.. the jacket... its too... too..... pure... no jacket in the world could be so much orange, it could not stay that clean, especially on tatooine it would be more wheatered.
well I really think someone should help scout with it, otherwise scouttrooper shouldn't release it :P
