This idea originated here (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=84395). The Forum I have in mind would be a place for forum goers to post original stories, fan ficition, literature, poetry, both Star Wars and non Star Wars related. A few mods are supporting this idea but Administration is not yet convinced. There are a great deal of talanted writers here on jk2.net and LucasForums in general. Some have suggested it be a continuation of the Roleplaying forums which I feel would be confusing. I am voting for a Stories Forum by itself in jk2.net., in the General Section. I myself have a great deal of things I have written in the past and would love to have a place to post this stuff. I also would really enjoy reading other's work such as whitedragon's here. Please vote yes on this petition and show your support.
Regards,
Groovy

It's got my full backing
I'm looking forward to [hopefully] reading some of the stuff that the community has come up with :D
I might even do some of my own stuff if I find the inspiration... ^_^

Yeah.
Great Idea, but couldnt Yoda's swamp be used for that?
Or the role-playing forum?
(P.S. meet me in MSN)

Yeah I can see it now, someone posts a story in Yoda's swamp and it winds up on page 9 in like 5 minutes. I see where you are coming from, but I think it would be much better to have a place that forum goers could show off they're work and get noticed. Wouldn't you Agree?

You do know that was before the Role-Playing and Game threads were removed, right?
Right now, it should stay on page one if a few people like it, IMO.My Lord of the Pings lasted a while on the first page before the new forums, so I think that the stories will last finely here.

You've got my John Han****. I really would not post there cause I don't like to write but I think that it is a cool idea for those who do write. I agree with Groovy on the it stay's here for a minute and then it is already on another page. We should let people's work be admired and showed off. I think that it is a great idea.
:lsduel: :duel:
I voted YES! I think it's a good idea for those with some good imagination and writing talent!! :D
The only thing I can think of is......do you think ppl will be more recognized with their stories there, rather then having them in the swamp? There are, of course, many more people here in the swamp to see a persons stories. Do you think a lot of ppl are going to go to this new forum and read them, other then the people that write the stories? I'll go and check it out of course....I just think a person would get more recognition in the swamp, that's all.
Sry to question it.......:(
I still voted yes for it! :)

Right now there is nothing that prohibits you from posting stories in the Swamp but will anyone really take time to read it? The Forum Idea I speak of will allow those who love fan fiction and stories to activitly participate on a forum by itself without having to wade through LOTR Vs Matrix, and Avatar revolution threads.
We did it with the games, I see no reason why it would not work with the stories.

I would not mind it.
I just think a person would get more recognition in the swamp, that's all.
I would think so.

But isnt that the same with an Serious Discussion board, like I proposed?
Edit- Yes, some of the Serious dicussion threads too are being pushed down...

serious discussion = lets yell at each other about things we don't know anything about anyway just for the sake of arguing.
no Tyrion, not even the same ballpark..........:roleyess:

True...
But still, it would be a good idea.
Why should I be punished for others flaming?
(yes,I actually learn some good stuff from it).

Can we get back on subject now? The Discussion forum idea is silly since I see a heated debate pop up about once a month, and it's usually the same people posting.(those who's names shall not be mentioned)
The Stories forums however would be a place for people to share literature, poetry, original stories, remember how popular the Academy wars were?
[edit-Tyrion, just cast your vote and leave, do not make an argument out of this]

But the academy wars belong in the Role-Playing forums, right?
(casts vote for yes and runs)
although im a bit neutral on the subject u got my vote. i know the feelin u need to go to page 3 after 30 mins to look for ur story. on the other hand, would much ppl be usin that new forum?
just a thought, instead of makin it only story/fanfiction related, u could let ppl show all their creations like stories, ... and websites (i suggest that stays sw related).

I was the only person to vote no. I don't think there is enough supporters to justify a new board for stories. At gee bee we just sticky them. I think only having one and MAYbe two stories going at once is about the limit because they start to go dead after awhile. I think you should just start one and stuck it. I have a feeling that the bored would just be kinda a slow one like the consoles or the other slow ones. Not enough visitors to keep it interesting.

First you have to consider how many people are actually going to write this sort of stuff, and if it therefore warrants the creation of a whole new forum.
Secondly, you have to consider if the new RPG forum couldn't be used for that same thing.

I don't think that we need an entirely new forum (not as of now at least), due to it only facilitating the "swampies" and not a broader range of users. As STTCT previously mentioned, sticky threads work fine.

Do what you wish.
But if you do, you might as well create a new forum for those (silly) polls - "which obi-wan had the best haircut?" etc.
And you might as well follow up and create the forum Tyrion advocated for - the serious discussion forum.
And so on and so on.
Soon the swamp won't be itself anymore.

I know from another forum that such a sub-department will be well visited and is a great idea (at least it was there, but it was a different kind of subject (the world was set eg, meaning that the fan-made fiction will be hugely overrepresented compared to this one. However the "customer base" so to speak is also more limited, so there are less hands to produce stories)).

Well that's the real problem isn't it. There is a 007 thread over there right now that I could finish, but that's not role playing now is it? There are those that posted very long stories over there and it had to be closed because it is not roleplaying. If you guys want this to be included in the Roleplaying Forums, then the roleplaying forum needs to be changed to accomdate such threads.
If Admin can create a whole new forum for games, why then can there not be a showcase literature forum? And it does not have to be limited to stories, I think art and photos, or website links could be presented there as well.
cjas, I definitely see your point, but they moved the games out of here and put them in a new forum so the description of "off topic discussion" is a bit shakey already now isn't it?
STTCT did you ever participate in the Academy wars? It was up for months and never needed to be stickied. Tons of poeple got involved in it. I had the idea for a stories forum ever since then, but I waited until now to say anything about it. With the creation of all these other forums lately, what does one more matter? Also what would constitute a thread being stickied? Suppose somebody posts a storie and ads more chapters later? Sorry but I do beleive that would be a train wreck waiting to happen. Metallus has a similar forum created at Grim Fandango and it's awsome.
Anyways I don't want to sound like I am just blowing steam, but since the recession of JKII fans and games, I think it would be a refreshing addition to create a stories forum, so that we can gain a new interest in other people's ideas as we anticipate the releases of future Jedi Knight games as well as the release of Star Wars Episode 3. Please join us and thank you for your support.

I agree that the Academy Wars was a true revolution on the forum: I loved it so much, and can't wait for it to continue. However, I have stories that I would like to write about my character, which I would not be able to do in the RP section, because it is not RP:(That's why I want this forum too...cmon guys, Groovy is trying so hard to get this going, and he needs all our support.

leXX brought up a good point. Why do we need a seperate forums for the games? How is it that having a separate forums for games is ok, but for stories it's bad? :disaprove

Yeah ok, Tyrion your right..... let's create a separate forum for every topic there is so us mods can spend the day moving threads into every catagory there is. Sounds like fun to me...:roleyess:

If you only knew how many threads I have closed at RP forums dear Tyrion, you would know exactly where I was coming from. Yes that includes your infernal "Can I mod here?" Threads since you have opted not to use the PM button. I even deleted the threads because it was embarasing to have so many closed threads on page one of the RP forums. Some members were even making jokes about it, and now participation is at an all time low.
Thanks alot for your support Tyrion, and thanks for turning my pettion into an argument.
*kicks Tyrion in the shin and slams the door on the way out*

I would like to encourage everyone to make sure and Vote with in the next four days at the poll stickied at the top of the Swamp. It is an attempt to get the whole forums current feelings on what is to be done about how the new forums situation is to be handled.
Thanks,
Bill
