Has anyone played the GameCube title Animal Crossing (http://www.animal-crossing.com/)? It hasn't been released in Europe, not till next March I don't think. It just looks and sounds so cool, have any of you americans, or import gamers played it? I wanna know if its as good as it sounds.
For those who may not have heard of it, the game is like an artificial world. Its played in real time, running off the gamecube clock, so if you play at midnight its dark and everyone is in bed, but at midday its sunny and people are out and about. You basically live in this town, and loads of things happen to keep you entertained. Obviously you need to earn a living, but there are festivals and seasons and stuff. Also, and this is cool, if a mate has the game as well, plug in his memory card into slot B and you can go to his town on the train! You can even convince the local townspeople to come back to your town on the train with you!
The GBA can also be used, with an "E-Card" reader to upload new information into the game. Thats a bit out of my league though, cos I don't have a GBA or a reader.

First 45 minutes of Animal Crossing will bore and disappoint.

The next two-three weeks, maybe more, will be addictive. This also depends on how much you play and whether you have GBA and link cable.

I don't play it in real-time like you're supposed to do. If I want it to be the next day in my town, I just save, quit, and reset the clock when I restart. Hence it is already mid-January in my Animal Crossing town.

A PAL release of Animal Crossing has yet to be announced, Nintendo have said that a release here will depend on how well Doshin sells. My gut feeling is that they will release it here eventually, but if Freeloader ever gets released then I think I may import it.

i rented it once, so of course i didn't know it needed one of the newer memory cards, so i couldn't save, but it seemed like it would be fun:D

I like how Nintendo is releasing new NES game off the official Aninal Crossing site (http://www.animal-crossing.com). They just released Donkey Kong 3 and before that, Soccer, DK Jr and Clu Clu Land D.. only Soccer and DK3 are still available though, I believe.

Kind of cheating, but picking up a free item every once in a while isn't too bad. If you're moving the clock around, cheating shouldn't really be too big a deal though, right?

Animal Crossing is great! I wanted something different and you surely get a new experience with this game. I like that its just a game you can pick up for 20 minutes or less a day and then leave it, but you can get greatly involved too. I'd recommend it, its a nice change from some of the console games out there now :)

There is a european date, its march 2003. It just takes them ages to translate all the dialogue for all the other European countries. Realistically they could release it in the UK in as long as it takes to change the region coding on the disc from the USA version, but they want a Europe-wide release date. That means converting all the hundreds of dialogue lines into German, French, Spanish, Italian.... all of them. Takes a while. Freeloader is apparantly coming out before x-mas as well, according to datel. Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it.

It's good, but once you pay off all of your house remodleing depts, there is nothing to do.

You bet there is. Finishing the museum, collecting furnature, trading with others online, making money, messing around, collecting/scanning e-cards.. there's plenty. I've had it since launch day and play it every day still, besides the week I spent on Metroid Prime.
