A poll:which army's infantry is most powerful, the Empire's Stormtroopers, Republic's Clonetroopers, or the Confederacy's Super Battle droids?

has to be the clonetroopers. Super battle droids are tough no doubt, but they cannot think creatively, and they got messed up by the republics clone troopers. And apparently somehwere in the transistion from clonetrooper to stormtrooper they forgot how to shoot straight ;)

I say clonetroopers. From what we have seen of stormies, they are just dumb lol, and the super battle droids lack lateral thinking.

Clonetroopers. Powerful, "creative", precise, cool.

Clonetroopers hands down. Super Battle Droids may have more firepower but Clonetroopers are more precise. They also are intelligient and are better stratigist's. There was that one scene were the Super Battle Droid just knocks that other Droid out. That wasn't very intelligient. A Clonetrooper would never do that. Stormtroopers are good but they are just plain dumb. They can't shoot strait. They also ran away from Han Solo. There were about 12 Stormtroopers and they ran away from him. Had there been a Clonetrooper there he wouldn't of ran away like a coward like the Stormtroopers were. The Clonetroopers are just advancing and didn't show any fear. They are the ultimate Soldier's from the Star Wars movies.

Storm troopers. They are clone troopers with better weapons and equipment. Now of course they arent a match for Jedi or elite bounty hunters or smugglers but they could waste any droid army or non elite rebel troops as weve seen them do.

I'll have to say stormies. We can't say if they are dumber then clonetroopers. They are actually humans(normal). I think they are smarter and can respond to situations more easily then clonetroopers or battle droids. As for stormtroopers not being able to shoot straight. Just to say, if GL made them shoot like they really can, all the main characters would be dead and there would only have been one Star Wars movie.

-everyone is onboard the Death Star:
Luke-These stormies are so powerful. I've never seen anybody so accurate!
Han-UHOh! They are gonna shoot!
Chewie-*Grunt
Leďa-NOOO!

*many blaster shots

All the main characters are dead. end of story......

Jedi Outcast quote: Stupid officers. Id like to see you come down here and put on this armor and try to see out of this helmet. And Ill sit up in my comfy office and tell you how dumb and in compitent you are. The Empire doesnt care about the well being of it troopers. It only cares about power in numbers. Its cheap and effective most of the time.

clonetroopers

stormtroppers couldn't hit a cow's backside with a bango

and the super Battle droids, well they would rust in the rain wouldn't they

1- I dunno maybe they can. We haven't seen them in a lot of action like the clonetroopers.

2-I think that super battle droids are maybe with anti-rust metals.

My vote goes to the clone troopers. :D

I just think they are superior!

But theyre older than Stormies. If in fact it is true that Stormies are clones too then Stormies are better. We have only seen Clones fight a droid army. We havent seen em against living warriors like Jedi, bounty hunters and other warriors.

I'd say the Super Battle droids are the most powerful. That hardly makes them the best though, since they're limited to whatever their programming tells them to do. Makes me wonder about the clones actually. They were genetically alter to limit their free thought/action so they would make better soldiers (i.e. follow orders instead of deciding to desert and start a life of their own some place). Anyone else wonder how much (if at all) this might have affected their ability to respond to a new situation? In a sense, they're just a little better than the droids... still just following their "programming."

I have the answer to your quesion Kryllith! In the SW databanks, it says that Clone Troopers were given a small amount of ''free will'' so they can answer to different situation. Basically you're right they still follow their programming.

Yes, as Lama Su said, they've done some tampering with the genetic structure to make them more docile and compliant to ordrers, which means they won't NOT follow a direct order, but they can still think creatively

JediNyt

Lama Su quote: They are totally obedient. Taking any order without question. Clones can think creatively. Youll find that they are emensely superior to droids.

They still have some independent thought. Thats why they can be creative. They might even have interest and facination. If Stormies are clones then it would make sense to think they have some personal interests. Example from ep4, Stormie quote:

Have you seen that new BT-16?

Yeah someone was telling me about it. Its supposed to be pretty fast.

Those may not be the exact words but thats what they were talking about when Obi-Wan was shutting down the tracter beam.

But of course we dont know if Stormtroopers are clones or not. Maybe the Empire gave up on clones cause they were too expensive and regular human soldiers did the job just fine.

But imagine how short the original trilogy would have been had the Stormtroopers actually hit and killed Luke... or Han and Chewie... or even Obi Wan before he deactivated the tractor beam.

It wasn't that they couldn't shoot straight.. it was the fact the script held them back. :) they really need better agents... I mean look at the Battle droids.. they hit lots of Jedi.. and why.. because they had good agents getting them the position.

From my understanding Stormtroopers are Clones. GL has said this many time already. My theory as to why Luke was going to join the Academy was this. Academy's are for Officer's so when you apply to the Academy you are applying to become a Pilot or a Officer. Makes sense wouldn't you say. The Officer's have to be smart and think freely and have to more superior in intellect to the Stormtroopers. Stormtroopers are the backbone of the Empire because they are cloned and number is there biggest thing. Why waste the brightest people in the galaxy for shotting a E-11 Blaster Rifle when they can be flying a TIE Fighter, Bomber, Interceptor, or commanding a ship. I just thought about that right now and it does sound pretty reasonable. Any thoughts on this?

Well the academy isnt just for the Empire. Luke had no intention of joining the Empire. I think the Academy branches into Merchant, Exploring, and Military. The Empire was gaining control of the military part of the academy of course. Then theres the Rebel Alliance which has nothing to do with the academy.

Ummm...........
In the Thrawn Trilogy(ok EU) it says that the Empire needed to get new troopers and new soldiers after the battle of a Endor because so many were killed by the new republic and needed to go get so cloning stuff(if the Stormtroopers were clones, they wouldn't have needed that because they were simply already doing it thus already having the necessary materials). Besides, Death Star Troopers aren't clones? Aren't they regular stormtroopers who had a promotion? And What about the Royal Guards? They are also stormtroopers who were specially trained for that(because of their awesome skills?) If they were clones, why not making them all a big bunch of Royal Guards?

Ratmjedi
12-04-2002, 08:13 PM
Well the stuff that you read in the thrawn Trlogy is EU so is doesn't count. Lucas said himself in the Commentary for EP II that the Clonetrooper eventually become the Stormtroopers in the OT. Before EP II Boba Fett was a stormtrooper that left to become a Bounty Hunter. That is not true now because we know that he was a clone of Jango. The stuff in the Thrawn Trilogy is not valid anymore. As for the Royal Guards and them being former Stormtroopers I don't know. I do know that they were already in EP II when Padme comes to talk to Palpatine for the first time. I know they are not like the same people that are in the OT cause they served the Republic. From what I read Imperial Guards were the best of the Empire. They also had some Force potential and were taught a little bit to be more than just Elite soldiers. I don't know what to belive but I guess we'll figure it on in a while.

Damn it! I want my stormies to be real persons!

I have read in the Databank that imperial gunners are Tie pilots who didn't make the exam to become one; so what are they?if they were clones, they wouldn't need an exam.

Something else that puzzles me about the Officers; if they have Lt clonetroopers, cpt clonetroopers and commander clonetroopers, why didn't keep those? They are still good! Since they are ''human'' they can make decisions. Why not keeping them? Why training officers that can defect to the Rebel Alliance?

stormies cannot be clones:
1) You can see in the movies that they are all different sizes
2) The emperor probably decided he didn,t need the "alien" kaminoans anymore and disposed of them :lightning

I think the super battle droids are coolest, but I really think clones are the best fighters. :clone:

In Ep4, when Luke enters Leias cell, she says, "Arent you a little to short for a stormtrooper?", or whatever she says. IMHO, that indicates that they are clones. Why else would they be the same size?

Of course, it may also be that there is a lenght limit for stormies. Like if you are under 180 cm(6 feet), you cant be a stormtrooper.

I think (think) that it leia is just mocking the stormtroopers as a bunch of goons, all size and no brain (which is probably untrue). :trooper: :trooper:

Clonetroopers hands down. They are copies of Jango Fett, the second greatest bounty hunter in the universe. They are creative, precise, and are physically fit coming from Jango. They are nearly perfect.

Storm Troopers: Morons wearing expensive armor for no reason because they cant shoot straight and will die anyway.

Battle Droids: At least they are programmed for only one purpose, destruction. They can shoot better than Storm Troopers (hell, C-3PO could) and they dont feel pain or fear.(except those wimpy ones that ran from the Acklay.) Now if it were Destroyer Droids, they would win in a heart beat.

And another good reason the empire gave up on clones.

Okay, the Empire uses clones for awhile, the are obedient, and they get the job done.
HOWEVER: Due to growth accelleration, their lifespans would in fact be cut in half. So what would be the point if you could only use them for 30 years, then "buy" another one? It would be extremely expensive. So they would give them up for real humans to have a variety of attacks. Think of troops all using the same tactics? They would be predictable. That is why(In theory, mind you) that the Empire gave up on clone troopers.:D

Actually Lucas says in the episode 2 audio documentary that stormtroopers were meant all along to be clones. So there it is. Stormies are in fact clones.....but onfortunitally when they got their new armor the eye holes weren't made to go over their eyes properly.....and their blasters shoot crooked. ;)

Geez people read the other posts!

Many persons including pointed out this:

Clonetroopers could shoot straight because they were aiming at battle droids and not the main characters.

Stormtroopers could not shoot straight because:

The gang is running inside Bespin while pursued by Stormies.

Leďa-Uh Oh! Many stormies heading our way!
lando- No! George Lucas made thm shoot straight!

*blastershots*

The group died. End of story.

Yeah but they can't fly worth sh*t. They're driods! You saw how the clones devestated them at Geonosis. And don't give me that crap about the driods being outnumbered. The clones are each a Jango Fett in some respects. And he kicks @$$, so they don't stand a chance. So what if they dont fear, they'll run into dangerous situations stupidily. Fear is GOOD. It determines what's insane and what's possible. It prevents us from killing ourselves in stupid ways.

If we make them fight 1vs1 it will go this way.

Super Battle Droid>Clonetrooper
Super Battle Droid>Stormtrooper
Stormtrooper(if they are clones)=Clonetrooper
Stormtrooper(if not)<Clonetrooper

but as a whole........

Clonetrooper=Stormtrooper(if they are clones)
Clonetrooper and Stormtrooper>Super Battle Droid
