Does anyone know of A script file that gets rain/snow into MP games? I'd really like to use weather effects, that would be awesome.

SO far as I know, those effects cant be used in MP games. Not sure why Raven left it out... but they did. *shrug*

I'd love to have it in MP too. Wudan claims he did it and I didn't find the map he made. I didn't even try very hard to be honest...

Where did Wudan post that?

It's possible to have rain, snow, sleet, leaves, chickens, and fat people fall from the sky (or towards it if you like) in Jedi Knight II MP.

I've done snow in a map I released only to the Clan I'm in (http://www.alderaanknights.com.)

The first thing you have to realize is that it's NOT an effect when it appears in Mutliplayer. Raven did a cool thing and made an effect that works within the bounds of a brush textured with system/outside (don't quote me on that...)

The way I did it, is that I made several shaders with deforming vertextes that run at varying speeds. Bear in mind that you'll need to put in a brush for each individual flake/drop and have an understanding of how shaders work to make it look right. Regardless of how many I used, it never seemed to give anyone that tested it a big performance hit.

There IS a tool to make the actual writing of the shader infinently easier, which you can pick up here: http://www.quake3stuff.com/freebrief

Partical studio is great, you can make things other than weather effects with it too, for instance on a a map I'm working on now I'm having glowbugs fly around a tree in a forest.

I reccomend you read up on shaders and have an understanding of how to import them into the game.
It's not as hard as it seems, but it's possible and I myself have done it, the map's name is Ancient Cloister (if by some chance you decide to join the clan to look at it, it's in a secret area)

I haven't released a map with snow or rain in it yet. Rain works at present, snow does not.

I've been working on the AOTC and Team Assault collaboration as of late, you should see some more interesting stuff from me.

The shader trick is a good idea, methinks, it's basically how cg_atmospheric works, kind of, except you don't have to manually place any brushes, and the 'shaders' drop from the skybox, in whatever way you want them to.

I also got Rain to work on the Kamino Duel map, it was pretty fun.

If people keep bugging me, I guess I'll have to release a Kamino Duel_SE just to prove it :(

Not to be confused with the actual Duel_SE Mod, by Jai Der Herr and others

Hmm.... couldn't the snow/rain be made through effects files? That would be much better than using the brushes with some deform vertex shader stuck on them methinks...

Gohan, here is the manual: http://www.quake3stuff.com/freebrief/asp/viewpage.asp?url=../q3a/tools/ps/manual/index.vp

I don't use EffectsEd because, well, I don't know how. ^^;;; I just got it to actually half-run today.

I use the deform vertexes mainly because I did a bit of quake3 mapping back in the day and it was a bit easier for me.

Gohan - The manual could tell you better than I could, honestly.

there was some raven document that explained some of how to do the precipitation in jk2/sof2 mp... dunno where it is now, though.
