Can I get some help on why my ground surface is all black yet my sky is looking fine. Is this because of me not adding the q3_surfacelight value to the shader? or is it something else?

if it is this line, explain where it goes in the shader file....

Yes, that's because there is no q3map_sun or q3map_surfacelight (or q3map_skylight if you use the new q3map2). These are going to the first section in the shader file say... after the surfaceparm lines.

i just did a final compile using the Artus light sky and its actually giving me the effect i want. i'm going to keep the rain and use this sky and any slight shadows are to be blamed on strange atmospheric effects due to the lack of some sort of gas in the atmosphere!! its all good...
