Those guys are awesome too.
I am a huge fan of classic/southern rock. Bands like Marshall Tucker band, Lynard Skynard, and Boston are my kinds of bands.
Lesser known artists, hm?
in that case, I highly recommend the DropKick Murphys. They are an irish rock band. What else is there to say? :D

STYX is one of the greatest bands to ever exist. Critics gave them a lot of crap, but who needs critics anyway. Maybe there is hope for today's youth after all. :)

Yea, I guess ur right, but I like his style of music.....like, none of my friends do.....so they diss me bout it. Led Zeppelin is great....one of the best badns of all time, but in modern harder rock, id say, Kid Rock is the best.

I don't know what the definition of "rock" is supposed to be these days, but:
Saviour Machine (http://www.saviourmachine.com)
One of the most controversial and under-recognized bands in Christian music and in modern music, period...they have to be my all time favorite group. Unfortunately you'll probably need to search for a while before you can find any MP3s of them on Kazaa or Soulseek.
Saviour Machine in action (13 meg quicktime) (http://www.mcm-music.de/DVD%20Web_BbandHi.mov)
Threshold (http://www.thresh.net/)
Metal/hard rock, great music, great lyrics
Shadow Gallery (http://www.shadowgallery.com/)
Another great band, although much of their music either isn't hard/aggressive or "deep" enough for my tastes...I don't know, it's something hard to define.
Honorable mentions also go to Holochaust, Living Sacrifice and Therion. I pretty much avoid every band that ever gets played on mainstream radio like the plague, except for a couple songs that I think are catchy enough to burn onto a "driving mix" CD.

Lesser known huh?
Ok well I will have to tip my hat to Spahn Ranch (http://www.spahnranch.net/html/sp_bio.html) who pretty much have a sound of their own yet fall under the eclectic industrial categori. Second would have to be Download (http://www.subconsciousstudios.com/download/) wich consists of former members of Skinny Puppy and specialize is off the wall hyper electronic walls of sound. Enjoy
