Ok you guys, set came up with a good idea, so you know what to do.

Its extremely temptive to pick the last :p
but i think both ways is the best

I think OOC would be good for both so we could sort things out faster. There could be a rise in complication when everyones in character during meetings.

setsuko

I think a mix of both. But in this way:

In offgame situation, expect the other person to be ooc unless he/she says so (preferrably with a "ic:" prefix)

In ingame situation, expect the other person to be ic unless he/she says so (preferrably with a "ooc:" prefix)

Simple, and effective. I like my roleplaying games to be roleplaying games.

Whether or not to act In Character out of game, and on ingame meetings.

I'm thinking that in-game everything is automatically IC. All Out-Of-Character talk should be marked by OOC before the text.
In forums, everything is automatically OOC, and all In-Character talk should be marked with IC before the text.

I'm also thinking that all meetings, that isn't of vital importance that we get a solution to fast, could be done in-game. I simply would just have loved to sit around a table bitching back and forth. :D
Well, not bitching, but it all adds to the realism of this game. I have been waiting for a chance to live in Star Wars all my life. ;) As I'm sure many of you have aswell. :D

I chose the last option :p... cause well.. Gaal is the other leader of this PA.. and all his dicsission go through me :D :p ( at least that is what i hope they do :p)

of course they do....wraith...::runs out back door::

i picked the last option .....*pulls out a blaster* gaalgoth i'd like to have a word with you.....

seriously, i tinhk it should depend on the meeting...for example if we need to talk about defenses that should definately be in game...but if we need to talk about someone not being able to play for a while there's no ppoint to do that ig....

My PA plans on doing all meetings out of game. The main reason for this is that it is impossible to get a large enough group of people together from different time zones. I don't know if that makes sense. I would rather do it in game, but that seems rather unlikely. Anyway, I didn't vote in your poll since I am not a member. ;P

Goooood non-member poster! Here's a cookie! ;)

Well, most important discussion will propably be had on the forums, since it takes time, and most people are not online at the same time. Ingame meetings, however, can add to the feeling of unity and roleplaying more than any discussion on the boards. Both ways has pros and cons.

In all honesty though, that's why my PA is utilizing a Yahoo group. That way we can hide our discussions from the likes of you. ;P

j/k, but seriously, you guys might want to consider doing something like that to avoid eavesdroppers like myself. ;)

Nah, it's not like we have discussed anything that non-members shouldn't hear. If we do that, we'll do it in a IRC chat, as we do for the leaders' meetings.

UnfrozenCaveman

Right, I know I'm not part of your PA...yet. But I think like others have said, stuff that is related to ingame should be held in game. Stuff that isn't related should be held here in the forums or on a big chat room- like you can do with AOL, just inviting a lot of people and talking about it. Not sure if you can do the same thing with ICQ, but that sort of thing. Yes, it is hard to have an ingame -mandatory meeting. 'Cause what happens if someone is in a different time zone, or someone needs to do something at the same time as the meeting?

setsuko
03-21-2003, 12:42 PM
It is very, very unlikely that we will ever have a manditory meeting. First, because there's very few situations that I can imagine that could require one, and second, we're spread across the globe, with a lot of europeans and a lot of americans, and an aussie or two ;). So no, mandatory meetings are stupid.

just to say this.. uhm..

when we have meetings in game.. should we have meetings with only the leaders or should we have group meetings? with ALL associates (which will never work).

and liek you may know.. i never played a game like this... and i may have missed the clue to the thread.... when we have in game meetings.. all in charachter? which will be ok for me tho :p

I picked the *cough*last*cough* one.
(I am sure I spelled "cough" incorrectly.)
But definitly IC ingame unless marched OOC, imagine this:

"I'll meet you at the cantina."
"What cantina."
"Our cantina."
"What's your problem, we live half a world apart."
"I ment in SWG you idiot."
"Oh."

Personally I would love to roleplay my character in a meeting, but looks like the meetings will be leader only things... Or so it seems.
If the average Joe Smoe is allowed to participate in meetings in game, I would love that. It would offer a sense of urgency and thinking on the issues of the time in terms of your CHARACTER and not necessecarily what is logical to you. It would be what your character desires at the moment, your influences in thinking and acting towards the other people in the heat of debate during an in game. OOC should stick to the boards so we the players can vote on what we want to do as a PA of people trying to make the game experience more enjoyable for us. In game IC out of game OOC. All (MOST) speech in game should be IC, but there are times you just need to OOC it. i.e. Gotta use the restroom, but that COULD be IC LOL... it could. When you have to leave and sadly stop playing, OOC. We should IC when possible for a more in depth experience of who we are playing with, who populates our world, and the relationships between our character and someone elses character.

We could make IC judgements in all our actions that sway us one way or another. i.e. Your character is making money, but suddenly there is a vote to change that so you make less. Logically to you the player (And your good natured heart) this new idea sounds great, fair, and would boost efficiency of the PA and its economy... Now think: Would your Character want this change out of the goodness of THEIR hearts, or are they self loving bizootches who wouldn't help anyone? Let THAT be IC and meetings be run by the characters themselves, not you. That is what the boards should be for.

Sorry for rambling in so many of my posts, but I don't care to look through many of them to see what I repeat. :( Sorry, sorry sorry, and SORRY again and again if I don't make sense some times... It's late when I check these boards. ;) *Yawns*

No, you made some sense. And meetings will involve everyone, or most of them anyway. there are weekly leader-only meetings, but there will be some involving everyone. But the leaders will have final say and have the ability to over rule. Hopefully though that won't be used too often.

swediot=)
03-25-2003, 01:38 AM
just for the fun of the roleplaying thing we should have like the =A= of the round table and have big debates about things where majority may rule after all arguments habve been heard like if we did that in character i think it would be fun dont you guys think so?

Sunshine Badass
03-25-2003, 01:51 AM
Hell ya Swediot! Only maybe not so much round table voting as a kickass food fight that rages for 40 days and 40 nights untill there is one sole survivor in the end... AND HE/SHE/IT IS THE WINNER... I mean... Uh... Debater with the best argument and most valid points on their subject.

OR as I may point out... Setsuko could just bring her rake...
---Makes sure he is still hiding in that closet well---
for intimidation votes.;)

P.S. What are the Points under the Avatar and what is teh Donate Credits button for? Sorry for being ignorant but I am learning myself through the....*passes out on keyboard again*

Sorry. Learning myself through asking questions. It's not like any of you would just point it out to me. :p

03-25-2003, 02:18 AM
no no anything but the rake holy crap!!!

well about the "credit system"
well you bassically gain credits for posting on the forums much like points in a way and you can buy things with credits like you can probably see that my title is surrounded by a blu glow type thing which i bought using this credit system and the donate thingie under my name (which you are welcome to use as much as you :D) you use if you wanna give some of your credits to someone else (like me:D)

Well then where do I get the catalogue of things to order and when do they arive? And how do I get an avatar picture... I should probably look in my profile before I ask this... But hey maybe I don't find it and someone posts the answer by the time I get back.:p

WOOT!!! No passing out this...
*Passes out*
*Misses keyboard*

Zzzz.... "Woot" Zzzzz.....

Well, basically, if you look at the top of almost every General Forum section of the SWG board, you will notice an Announcment thread on the top. :)
In there it will direct you to the Read This First thread by Wraith 8 (which you can also find in almost all the General Forums section) where I have added a small FAQ on the Store not so long ago. :)

To the Avatar question .... yes, go to your profile (the button on top to the left saying User CP) and then click Edit Options. At the bottom there you will find the Avatar selection. :)

Good Luck :)

Well, I was thinking over these meeting thingys (I promise!), and the public vs leader meetings mentioned by Sunshine made me come up with these thoughts.

Most meetings that involves all parts of the PA will propably be between the leaders. That is because they are those who is supposed to know what each group's situation is. And they can put forward the thoughts and opinion of their members (indirect democracy).

Then, there are meetings that mostly affect one group. These will propably be more common, and these could be made up by all available members of the group (direct democracy).

This is because 40+ members at an important meeting gets very messy. While 10+ member meetings are easier. This could give room for our members to attend to a lot of meetings, while still maintain something remotely similar to efficiency. On the other hand, non-leaders can attend the leader meetings if they ask for it nicely, or if their information is valuable. This has worked before.

RAH! Annoying pop-ups... I am not old enough to gamble.;) :p :D

Anyways, I plan to be a swordsperson/Spy/Healer and was wondering if the PA had any applicable use for a spy. My character may then have some "valuable" info from the galaxy to report to the PA and thus possibly influence the meetings decision with more info from whatever/whomever I was sent to spy on.:D

So my main question is: DO WE NEED A SPY?/Healer

Thew Rydur
03-25-2003, 05:30 PM
Yeah, I like the idea of group meetings. That way they could focus on their group and bring up anything about the PA as a whole. Then the group leader could take ideas to the leaders meeting.

And about the spy thing, you can be whatever you like as long you put your mind to it ;) :D :p .

Sunshine Badass
03-25-2003, 05:49 PM
Yeah, I CAN be whatever I want, but my question was: Is there any logical or applicable usage for a spy in the The Associates?

setsuko
03-25-2003, 07:14 PM
Well, most importantly, everyone in the commerce group will havet some opinion and knowledge about the issues that a group meeting of the commerce group would bring up, while they might not be so interested/knowledgeable about PAtoPA diplomacy, intergoup cooperation and rules adjustments (which is some of the things a leader meeting could be about)

Well, sunshinebadass, my group could use some general info on other PAs if we ever encounter a PA war, and we could use scouting information for interesting places to send hunting operations to. That's the use of a spy I can come up with.

Sunshine Badass
03-25-2003, 07:27 PM
Yay!:D

Then I will be a Swordsperson/Spy/Healer under your command Setsuko.;)

Lead me, oh, Great One Of The Holy Rake!!!:D I will find great info on other PA's and their aggression levels for tresspassing!;)

;)Oh, will I tresspass for first hand knowledge of their ability to stop us...;)

@ Sunshine:
I agree that most meetings should be IC.
BUT!
A lot of our members (inculding myself) are not familiar with MMORPG and some of us (NOT including me) never played a Role playing game before. not even text based.

Now i think that for a lot of people, IC will be quite difficult to master. in time they will figure it out tho.

About the meetings in numbers. i have to agree with setsuko. full scale member meetings could be fun, but it has 2 disadvantages:
1. People in our PA live around the globe
2. Such a meeting is uncontolable.

I would love a full scale meeting... but like i said.. will never happen :D

Sunshine Badass
03-27-2003, 06:40 PM
Actually, I don't have ANY MMO experience at all...
Except for Diablo 2... But that doesn't count does it? ;)

So I am just as new to this as you are... But I am a good improvisationalist, so I should be able to "bluff" my way into this and appear to be a seasoned master, like some of you here are.:D And make my character come alive. I will have to tinker around with the game when I start out to see what I am capable of.

Wraith 8
04-01-2003, 08:59 AM
ok :D

but lets just say.. that you cant expect all members to be as good as you hope they will be ;) give them time to get it :)

That is where those who has roleplaying experience (myself included) has a responsibility. Because it is much easier to RP if other, more seasoned veterans, are RPing all around you.

That's right Set, it's much easier to RP with others RPing around you. Besides, it's really not that hard....just make believe. We were all kids once.
