k, it should be q4 2003-q1 2004

I dont get whats Q3, Q4, etc. And how did they keep this a secret?

Lord Glorfindel
01-23-2003, 08:21 PM
YAAAAAA, I AM SO EXCITED!!! It would be cool if Kyle faced Yuuzhan Vong instead of Remnant, of course I will get JKIII no matter what enemy you face. Thanks CR for the heads up

I dont get whats Q3, Q4, etc. And how did they keep this a secret?

I think Q1 = 1st quarter of the year and Q2 is 2nd quarter of the year, etc etc.

Glorfindel is correct about the quarters. I don't know if it was ever much of a secret.......I mean you could just figure that they would come out with another one after the success of JO. I know there has been talk about another one on the JK2 boards for a long time now. This information now makes it official. :)

I can't believe JKIII is coming already so soon though. I've even forgotten what it's like to play JKII :(.. I shall regain the feeling soon enough though. ;)

Darth Simpson

JKII was a good game, just nowhere near as good as it could have been. Multiplayer in particular was a bore. I seriously hope they make MP interesting this time around. Empire vs Republic objective type maps, for example.

SP in JKII was good once you got the lightsaber though.

I'm not sure if I want Raven to work on this sequel. I felt exactly the same way about SOF2. Both games left me with the same feeling. Is this it? :/

Hannibal
01-24-2003, 09:57 AM
It would be cool if they added more RP into the game. Like the ability to go to the darkside.
I think graphics wise Bioware has raised the bar for SW games. So I'd like to see it improved that way too.
Also I hope they move on from the QuakeIII engine. Geez put that thing to be already. Seems like every game is made from that thing.

Swat

Treacherous Mercenary

I was talking about Raven / JKII.

Not to mention SOFII which sucked imo compared to JKII. I guess I like the thought of running around with a light saber rather than guns which I prefer in a tactical style instead. :) I do hope JKIII will be a tad slower paced for the light saber fights. I do think they should limit the weapons abit to be able to carry somewhat in MP mode though to emphasized CQB.

I don't think I'm familiar with that one......please explain! :)

Com Raven
01-25-2003, 08:51 AM
Sorry, I mean it should use an engine from ID Software, as about 90% of both studios are former ID employees....

Darth Simpson
01-25-2003, 09:19 AM
iD engine = All the old iD games, Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3, Doom 3 all use graphics engines by iD Software.

JKIII with the Doom 3 engine would be f'ing A.

GonkH8er
01-25-2003, 09:49 AM
But it's not, so bust on that Doom 3 idea :)

If not the Doom3 engine, then what? Unreal 2? ...You seem to be fairly knowledgeable about it all, so spill... :D

Gonk gets some of the inside info.......so he is in "the know" for the JK games. ;) :D

Nice to see you here btw Gonk. :D

As long as it's not Q3, I'll be happy.

Com Raven
01-25-2003, 12:28 PM
I'd even be content with Q3....

and seeing how ID is aligned with Activision, I am 100% sure it won't be Unreal technology...

Darth Simpson
01-25-2003, 01:15 PM
Don't get me wrong, Q3 is an excellent engine, but it feels done by now. I'm getting tired of the look and feel of it.

I just think someting new should be used, to spice it up.

Now that engine would be good to use imo! The engine is pretty sw33t for games like AA:O and soon, Rainbow Six: Raven Shield.

:)

Com Raven
01-25-2003, 08:04 PM
Raven Shield, for it's own reasons, unleashes only a small percentage of what Unreal 2 can do...

Notion
01-26-2003, 12:32 AM
They could run it on the Quake 4 engine...

Taos
01-26-2003, 12:35 AM
Could you possibly explain the differences between the 3 and the 4 engine?

Darth Simpson
01-26-2003, 06:46 AM
Well, the Quake 4 engine is the Doom 3 engine, so according to Gonk, that's a no-no.

Hard to explain the differences, except that Doom 3 looks one helluva lot better that Quake 3. Best way to see the differences would be to look at screenshots.

Quake 3 is a 3-year old game, while the Doom 3 tech is brand new.

Damn Raven and their linear games. When will they learn that player freedom is the way forward?

JK II was fun, but it was always so linear and dull, never really did it require any skill (apart from the saber duels, which were pretty frickin tough at times, IMO), it was always follow the straight path through these doors, kill this guy, steal his key, open that door... aaaaand that's pretty much it. I prefer games where I can choose the route I'm going to take to get from A to B, and JK II just didn't offer that.

On the plus side, it did have lightsabers in it.... :D

Seriously, though, JK II had so much potential, and it just continually let me down. I really hope JK III is better. And they'd better bring back live-action cutscenes too! I was gutted when JK: MotS didn' have it, and when they neglected to put them into JK II... :cry7:

It needed more variety to the levels. My favourite was the stealthy infiltration one before you get aboard Desann's ship. It definitely needed bigger levels as well, higher poly, high-res textured models and maps. I assume that with it either going ahead and negotiating the rights to use the UT 2K3 engine or the Doom III engine, or even developing one of their own to rival these (which I doubt will happen considering the technological capabilities of the UT 2K3 engine...), graphically it'll be gorgeous. But that won't be enough for me, i'm afraid.

But hey, imagine shooting a storm-trooper and seeing him reg-dolling down the stairs or a cliff-face or something. Now that's a much-needed addition to the SW games alone... :D

Aerothorn
01-26-2003, 08:26 PM
Lets see...Dark Forces makes a lot of money and is criticlly acclaimed...same with Jedi Knight....same with Jedi Outcast....I don't think its very suprising they are continueing the series. Still, nice to know. Wonder what engine they'll use? Quake 3 is too old and I doubt Doom 3 was licensed yet so it'll probably be Unreal, maybe Lithtech but probably Unreal.

And I agree with Rive, the only reason to sacrifice player freedom is a more focused storyline, and JK II's story was crap.

My formula for JK III

Deus Ex(Or, by the time it comes out, DX2) + Lightsabers +Forcepowers + Star Wars= Good JK III

Darth_Rive
01-27-2003, 12:38 AM
Definitely have to agree with you there, Aerothorn. If the Deus Ex II engine is the UT2K3 engine modded in the same way as its predecessor, it'll be amazing. JK III needs that RPG quality that Deus Ex had, especially the character development as you played through tweaking the stats. That'd be ideal, especially with developing force powers through different tasks completed and experience levels. JK III would definitely be much more involving that way - you'd care more about the character and want to play it through more than once , even more so if they made the levels so that they could be taken on any way the player chooses. If the levels are involving enuogh, I know I'd want to play it over and over again to see what the outcome was of different tactics. Now that would definitely be cool. :D

Deus Ex 2 is my most wanted game. Me want it baddddddddd....

I would also like to see a bit more role playing in JK3.....of course there are those who despise it, but that's ok with me. :)

Notion
02-02-2003, 11:13 PM
I'm sure they will apreciate KOTOR but in no way will it influence how they design the game. KOTOR is a full blown RPG, complete with all the cliches.

I do agree that if they turned Deus Ex: Invisible War into a star wars game, and gave it awesome lightsaber battles (like the last one did) it would be awesome.
