View Full Version : Monthly fee

01-25-2003, 04:43 PM
Hi guys!!! Did you miss me!!! On second thought don't answer that... Anyway, I heard someone say something about a monthly fee, is that true??? Is there a fee for xbox??? Anyway, how is every one??? Hi, new people!!! :jango: :jango:

Hey Hunter......I'm happy to see that you are back. ;)

No, there will not be a monthly fee for the xbox version. All you will have to pay is your monthly xbox fee.

Me, I've been busy, job interview and traveling.....anyways. :)

You're thinking of Galaxies I think, the MMORG coming out this year. KotOR is better just for the fact there is no fee. I have no job to play Galaxies... :D

There is no fee whatsoever with this game...

And while I dedicate my time to a Knights site, I think Galaxies will have a much bigger impact...

In fact, I think it's one of the most ambitious projects ever...

01-25-2003, 10:19 PM
who's going 2 buy it anyway

01-25-2003, 11:58 PM
Who's going to buy it? Well let's see...

You have the EverQuest fans looking for something different, new, and exciting...

You have the casual Star Wars fans looking for a good social experience...

You have the little attention cravers who have wanted to become Jedi Knights since age 6...

You have those who really disliked the gameplay in KOTR (for whatever reason) and want something to revive their SW RPG thirst...

You have those who look at any online game and must have it...

You have those who are really interested in ambitious projects and buy games off of the inspiration they generate...

You have those looking for a good Star Wars chat room (and use the game for it)...

Shall I go on?

As far as the most ambitious project ever, no, probably not (It's design roots can easily be traced back to EQ). I would have to give that to Fable. But hey it's Star Wars, people will buy it, and love it.

No i dont think i will have time for Galaxies unless i buy it for the summer for whenever it comes out...plus thats really stupid for paying monthly fees just to play a game for a sever. Just a waste of money and ill be into Kotor more...but the only mmorpg im thinkin about buying is shadowbane, that is what i call an mmorpg even though galaxies have better graphics.

01-26-2003, 04:13 AM
so sad that i can't buy SWG bcos of the monthly fee :(

You don't pay just for the servers...

In fact, there's so much more to running a MMORPG than most people think...

For who will buy it?

Over 100.000 people registered at the Official Site speaks a clear language...

And Shadowbane, I don't think it has much to compete with Galaxies...

I will never play a MMOROG. Never.

Heard of too many addicts..and I have an addiction to games as it is...

I think galaxies will be a very great game for the people that can pay. but KoTOR will be the perfect game for those uf us that cant pay for the monthly service.

I think he is referring to the upcoming Xbox release........those of us with them won't have to wait much longer. :D

Com Raven

and that might be sooner than we think...

Galaxies is so ambitious its bound to fail in some aspect.

I remember DAOC got great reviews. I played it. It sucked horribly. The combat system was: walk around, click on button, it automaticlly fights for you, repeat. LAME.

If they are shooting for the Everquest crowd then the project is already screwed. I'd like to play it if it works out, though unless SWG has a super great combat or political system I'd rather play Planetside.

I think you fail to see what it is about...

Galaxies is not about combat...

Planetside is shallow...

No economy or stuff...

01-28-2003, 07:52 AM
SWG is abt achieving something in the star wars universe

01-28-2003, 03:06 PM
Since this thread doesn't really talk about Knights anymore and I don't want to close it........it's good discussion, I'm moving it to the Atho Cantina. :)

First off, how do you know Planetside is shallow? Are you a beta tester? No? Then you don't know. Considering the vast array of vehicle, armor, weapontry, bases, and tactics, I would hardly call it shallow. And yes, it has an economy.

And as for Galaxies not being about combat, its not as combat focused as other MMORPGs, yes, and I plan on being a non combat person if I played, but combat is still an important aspect, and the main way to level up. If the combat system is sucky, its more work then play, and I don't wanna pay a monthly fee for it. Hopefully you actualy have to aim and such, lock on combat systems suck.

I think galaxies will be awesome, that and combined with xbox live's headset so you can talk to other players will make it really cool. I'm just hoping that I don't need a credit card to do pay for it.

Iiiiiiiim sorry but im with Com.

The combat system is not "aim yourself", and I am fine with that...

Doesn't work very good with lag...

Just as you don't swing the saber in Knights yourself...

01-29-2003, 01:44 PM
as much as i like galaxies, i'm not getting it, because it is as commercial as it can get, and because kotor will be much better:p

Com Raven
01-29-2003, 02:38 PM
Well, as much as I love BioWare, but their game is just as commercially oriented...

01-29-2003, 02:39 PM
Its not aim yourself? It does all the work for you? Then Galaxies is more shallow then Planetside. At least planetside has complex tactics. Galaxies is "Hit the attack button". I'd still play if I honestly belived combat was not very imporant, but since half of the classes are combat focused, it must be- I mean they don't even have a senate so what will a politician do all day?

And while you don't aim in KOTOR, you have multiple party members, and different kinds of strategies. I played DAOC and it was "Hit attack button. Maybe hit spin attack button sometimes." BORING. If I wanted to click and kill things I'd play Diablo 2 online.

Well, all the different special abilities should give combat a lot of depth...

01-29-2003, 04:15 PM
Yes, hopefully they will- I'm not saying its bound to fail. Simply it would have more depth if it had aiming AND special abilities. If everyone in the Star Wars Universe could just auto lock on to opponents with their blasters...well....thats not how things work. But it still could be good- I was just saying I played DAOC, it had a similar combat system where it locked on with lots of special abilities, and it was boring as hell- the special abilities wern't THAT important- a poison spell, a damage spell, a spin attack, just a buncha ways to kill an opponent that doesn't really matter because it usually came down to who was a higher level anyway.

I'm also concerned about the non combat system. I wanna be a politician, for instance. So what do I do? I mean in the time frame of SWG, the senate has been disbanded and the empire essentially runs everything. So sure, I suppose a town ruler can raise or lower taxes or something, but thats not something you do every day- so do they sit around and twiddle their thumbs? They better have a lot of non combat quests- dungeon hacks are, by nature, repetitive, and will get old fast, and a MMORPG is not a game you play for 3 months, it should have a multi year shelf life.
