"chickmagnet" ?

02-03-2003, 05:45 PM
Am I detecting a hint of antisemitism? Anyway, I picked Xbox.

02-03-2003, 07:52 PM
Xbox. you don't have to pay for internet play!

02-04-2003, 05:55 AM
I'm sorry, but the X-Box is a big breeze block. Gamecube is not only smaller, it looks nicer and has far better games.

02-04-2003, 11:01 AM
I only have a PS1... Nice graphic :D

X-box = Over hyped.

Gamecube = The little engine that can

02-04-2003, 03:56 PM
The PS2 takes the top spot for me, simply because of the number of high quality games. True, there are also a lot of awful games, but it's not like I have to buy them.

well seeing as they can all only handle 640 x 480, I pass them all off with a loud: SHUN

02-04-2003, 06:28 PM
The Xbox can handle 1920x1080, according to GameSpy.

Lemon Head
02-04-2003, 06:53 PM
unfortunately TV screens only handle 640x480 (unless you have a multi-thousand pound tv) so it goes to waste, which infuriates me more

02-04-2003, 08:03 PM
I'd set my priority with the GameCube, as I haven't seen many titles that truly interest me arrive to the X-box (Other than those available across-platform), and because Nintendo basically rule, rocking socks away from feet whenever necessary.

People are doing some interesting stuff with 'The Box' though, and I'll be snapping one up on the cheap much later to tinker with all the amateur tools, games and emulators that have been made to run on Microsoft's black and green giant. Of course, it will soon have Psychonauts, but you never know. It could be a huge disappointment. Sorry to tempt fate like that.

Neo Geo

02-21-2003, 05:23 PM
They all have their own serious plusses and minuses and I dont think I can really rate one higher than the others, er I guess... that said I voted for Gamecube :)

02-21-2003, 06:10 PM
Xbox rules, because I bought one. I like the way it sits in my room and blocks out the light from the windows and the noise of the fan scares the small children at the primary school over the road. I think one of the main reasons people dislike xbox is because their hands are too small. THE CONTROLLER IS NORMAL SIZED!

03-03-2003, 02:02 PM
Xbox. Halo 2 and Perfect Dark 0 own me.

03-03-2003, 04:22 PM
Lets investigate...

Best first person shooter: Metroid Prime (GC)

Best platformer: Starfox Adventures (GC)

Best multiplayer: Super Smash Bros. Melee (GC)

Best driving game: GTA: Vice City (PS2)

Of course, these are my opinions, not fact. :D

03-09-2003, 12:49 PM
All of them are good, but I like PC better than any of them.

Adventure: Maniac Mansion (PC) :D

Action: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2)

1st Person Shooter: Halo (Xbox)

3rd Person Shooter: Resident Evil (Gamecube)

Fighting: Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (Xbox)

Strategy: Warcraft 3 (PC)

Platformer: Super Mario Sunshine (Gamecube)

Racing: GT3 (PS2)

Sports: Either PS2 or Xbox.

Oh, here's a Shocker. Ps2 and Xbox tie.

03-09-2003, 12:57 PM
Maniac Mansion, best adventure??? Ok...
By the way, Mortal Kombat is available on all three consoles, not just X-Box. And as the GC has the fastest loading times, and the X-Box has the worst control pad, wouldn't the best version be the cube one?

03-09-2003, 01:09 PM
There is nothing wrong with the xbox control pad, the PS2 and GC controllers are far too small and awkward.

Tall Guy
03-10-2003, 10:14 AM
I'd have to say the xbox, however I havn't actually got around to getting one yet....:(

03-10-2003, 10:49 AM
Nintendo has always had the best Super Mario games, so I voted for the Cube. Plus, it has Rogue Leader, and it looks like something you can put things in when it's switched off, making it a valuable interior decoration item too.

03-10-2003, 11:59 AM
I'm just gonna buy all three. Although I go where halo goes, i just can't pass up GTA, Time Splitters, or Meteroid Prime

Yes... MM best adventure! I know Mk is for all 3. The Gamecube controller is the worst controllor for fighting games.

Also, PTDC, the PS2 controller is the best controller ever. But your right. There is nothing wrong with the Xbox controller.

03-12-2003, 08:00 AM
You shall all burn for your untruths.
The N64 controller is the best controller ever, and that comment has probably just sent this thread to hell.

03-12-2003, 04:37 PM
N64... Ahh, that brings back golden memorys. The N64 controller is the second best, I'd say.

03-12-2003, 04:38 PM
the atari system had the best controller: one button and a joystick

03-12-2003, 08:31 PM
Atari... Ick. only 25 good titles.

03-12-2003, 09:13 PM
Fighting: Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance (Xbox)

How is MK: DA the best console fighter? [face_laugh]

03-13-2003, 01:33 AM
Your poll isn't working. The radio button for Sega Genesis doesn't appear.

03-13-2003, 11:48 AM
I found a third party n64 controller the other day which I hadn't chucked out, the ergonomics were non-existent. The official controllers were great though, until the analogue stick got worn out :)

03-18-2003, 04:28 PM
I never could get used to the Dreamcast controller. Even though I've only played one twice.

04-01-2003, 09:30 AM
Ps2 Rulez!!!!!!!!!

04-16-2003, 07:52 AM
PS2 = Best for games

Xbox = Best inet play and power

Gamecube = Best for old favs like zelda and mario.

SNES = Best for the classics Mario Kart, zelda, sf2 turbo, bomberman, secret of mana (them were the days!)

To be honest its the games that make the console and PS2 is obviously going to be the clear winner there.

04-17-2003, 06:21 PM
Ok, SNES and GC should really be the same option - Mario Kart is rapidly Gamecube bound, in fact Myamoto claims it's finished. Zelda is finished, and available (May 3rd in Europe) as is bomberman. As for secret of Mana - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is apparantly very heavily influenced by it, and is being made by the same people. For example, both are non-turned based, so its already looking good. SF2 - well, it was good at the time - but given the choice, I'd rather have Super Smash Bros. Melee, or Soul Calibre (cube version has Link, so should be rather special.)

To be honest its the games that make the console and PS2 is obviously going to be the clear winner there.

Nooooooo - quality, not quantity. PS2 has the most, but not the best. The only good games that are PS2 only are GTA and Metal Gear Solid. Saying that, GTA 3 and Vice City are both available on PC (vice city end of may) with improved graphics and more customisability (is that a word?) and MGS is available on X-Box and PC, and the gamecube is getting a GC-only all new MGS adventure in the near future.

04-18-2003, 07:28 AM
I'm waiting for my Gamecube now, along with Metroid Prime, Zelda and Smash Bros (The new Players Choice range is great). It is a little disappointing that a certain few games that were planned for Gamecube won't make it there (RTX, BS3), but at the end of the day, Nintendo is just one giant pimp, and I am its whore.

There are a few games I would like to play on the PS2, including Kingdom Hearts (Turn-based RPGs with Disney characters will always have a place in my, um, heart), but the Gamecube has at least ten quality titles that I want, and since I don't normally buy heaps of games for my consoles, I opted for the Gamecube.

Even though it's apparently losing the console war or whatever, and places such as Dixons are selling off all of their Gamecube-related goods (hint hint), I'd still rather play the current line-up rather than the PS2s back and forward catalogues. I nearly bought an Xbox, but only due to Psychonauts, and I've decided instead to wait a couple of years and then get one while they're dying out.

I hope that games like Crystal Chronicles don't suffer any bumps on the way, bumps that mean they don't actually appear on the Gamecube, because that would make me a somewhat sad panda. I didn't know about Mario Kart, although I hear that "Mario 128" is in production as well as "Metroid Prime 2". Hopefully plenty of announcements will be made at E3, particularly announcements involving new-to-Gamecube games rather than sequels to stuff we've already seen. Any links to top Nintendo News sources would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe Rare wasn't such a loss after all. Klonoa or whatever it was never really appealed to me, and hopefully, Metroid Prime can take the place of Perfect Dark (and I hear it does). Other than that, Rares games were mainly clones of Nintendos - Diddy Kong Racing, Banjo Kazooie - although they were still brilliant (Conker rules). I don't see what they're going to do for Microsoft anyway, the Xbox has enough FPS's and I dont think the typical Xbox player will enjoy roaming around happy lands as fluffy little creatures, because obviously that doesn't involve any realism or hardcore blasting action.

04-18-2003, 04:34 PM
The whole thing about people selling off Gamecube stuff is because of the games not selling - when argos introduced its offer of a cube with a game and a memory card for £80, they sold over 5000 in a few days. Now, a lot of games that were canned, like V-Rally, are back on the release lists.

Crystal Chronicles is a guaranteed, trust me. Nintendo have secured lots of good games for cube only, so it should be good in the future. Don't forget F-Zero and Sonic 2. Mario 128 is on the way, yes, and its apparantly gonna be a huge leap forward after Mario Sunshine, which was totally brilliant, but basically Mario 64 advanced. Thats not a bad thing, but its not gonna turn heads like Mario 64 did all those years ago. Metroid Prime is on the way as well, but not for ages. Also, Starfox armada - ever play Starwing on SNES? Cos this is gonna blow it out of the water!

For the best ninty news, go to Total Games (http://www.totalgames.net/) and click on CUBE.

Oh and Rare isn't a huge loss - Starfox adventures was brilliant, but it took 5 years to make, and it shoulda been so much better given the time taken to make.

04-18-2003, 05:26 PM
Thanks for the link. I despise that Argos deal, mainly because I decided to start hunting for a decently-priced Gamecube the day after it ended. Argos are never in stock anyway. I cancelled my Amazon order and bought my Gamecube in town today, as it was cheaper - Metroid Prime pack, with a free Smash Bros. I've been playing Smash Bros for the past four hours, and the new modes are brilliant.

As for the games, F-Zero X was great and completely beat the hell out of Wipeout. The latest Sonic games have been a bit crappy though, so I'm not too excited about that. As for Starfox, well I've heard bad things about Starfox adventures, and although it's definitely on my list, it's not at the top. A new Lylat-Wars / Starwing type game would be welcomed with open arms though, with the option to shoot down Slippys ship and laugh hysterically included.

Nothing really compares rpg gameplay wise to the early square rpgs (chrono trigger, mana and FF6).

Im thinking of getting a PS2 and a gamecube... mainly because i like my serious games (GTA vice city, splinter cell, metal gear solid) but I also like the classics (mario, zelda etc).

Recently bought an N64 for 35£ off ebay been playin mario64 quite a bit and waiting for majoras mask to arrive. Wheres the best place in the uk to buy PS2 and gamecube? Any good deals floating about?

04-19-2003, 01:37 PM
I also cuss that Argos deal bad, I got a gc a week before Scabb and there wasnt an Argos in the country that had a gc for their 80 quid price.

Everywhere is doing the £130 packs at the moment. At Virgin it comes with a free memory card. Scabb's EB deal sounds far better though. Dixons are selling off their gamecube stuff too, so its good to look there for games and peripherals, there's some hefty discounts to be had.

04-19-2003, 02:12 PM
Dixons were all out, but I could've got a Gamecube and a game for £100. The guy in the store told me that you can trade in a Dreamcast/Playstation/N64 and two or three games, and then pay £40 to get a Gamecube with Metroid.

Oh, and Greg, check out Toys R Us, Gamestation and Game. And Majora's Mask sucks ass compared to Ocarina.

04-22-2003, 07:37 PM
The best deal to go for if you don't already have a cube is the platinum zelda one, available from the 3rd of may. You get the cube in funky platinum colour, all the usual jazz plus zelda: the wind waker as well as the two other zelda games - ocarina of time and master quest. Woo hoo!

Play.com do some great deals on cube games every so often, like bomberman for £18.

ummm PS2 owns "j00" all

05-01-2003, 08:59 AM
Metroid Prime is great. Once you've got to grips with the strange controls and explored a bit, it begins to kick ass. The action sequences are great too, huge bosses and hoards of space pirates. It's just like Super Metroid in 3D, only hopefully not as hard.

Those of you with GBA's should definitely pick up Metroid Fusion too. It's essentially Super Metroid again, only with the annoying parts removed, and less exploring to do as you're told where to go (which is nice). It's a lot easier than Super Metroid too, thankfully.

As for those of you that got Wind Waker from GAME early, I only hope you have 50hz TVs so that you can't run the bonus disc ¬

E3 should hurry up.

05-01-2003, 12:20 PM
I like the Xbox, because when modded, you can do some very cool stuff. For example, if you load Linux on to your Xbox, you can user ScummVM to play old LucasArts classics. Neato.

The morph ball in Prime is money. Especially once you get the speed ball, and start playing on the halfpipes.

You're wrong about the N64 Zeldas, though. Majora's Mask is better than Ocarina.

05-01-2003, 03:12 PM
Majora's Mask annoyed me because of the 3 day time limit imposed, which was incredibly annoying. That's my only real gripe, because it limited exploration time, and it's frustrating when certain events only happen at specific times.

I just received my super ball bombs or whatever they're called on Metroid. The gravity suit is ugly.

I think it looks nice. It was always my favourite colour scheme when playing as Samus in SSBM, as well.

05-02-2003, 01:11 PM
Those of us who got Zelda early from GAME didn't worry abut their useless 1980's TV set, and simply enjoyed the greatest console game of this millenium :)
Of course, I would be very very annoyed if my parents 32 inch widescreener downstairs didn't run in 60Hz mode, but it does.

05-02-2003, 04:05 PM
My tv doesnt run in 60hz mode, thats the only tv i'll have access to come September. SOMEONE AT NINTENDO MUST DIE FOR THIS.

05-02-2003, 07:58 PM
I've actually visited a few Nintendo-related web pages regarding this issue, and the sheer hatred towards Nintendo is unbelievable amongst those with 50hz TVs (AND almost all of them "have the original Zelda"). I can understand the "pissed off" factor, and even murdering a few Nintendo employees is justifiable I guess, but the extent to which this act is being bad-mouthed.

IT'S A FREE BONUS THING. They're not making any profit on it for a start, and to convert it to run in at a frankly inferior 50hz would waste time and money, and possibly delay the main game that these people paid for. Also, you should get a new TV, or at least visit the houses of relatives and convince them that their 60hz TV is hideously outdated and may explode at any second.

It may have been in Nintendos best interests to just "not give away the game", and Im sure in future us PAL-guys will be showered with similar freebies. ¬

Master Quest isn't Ura Zelda anyway, so I'm told. It's just like the normal game, only there are more enemies, who are tougher, and the items in the dungeons are swapped around a bit. Not really that exciting.

05-02-2003, 08:08 PM
Bugger that, you cant expect me to be open-minded when i cant play the damm bonus disc. Murder is my only option¬

05-02-2003, 08:12 PM
Yeah, URA-Zelda was originally much more different. They obviously stopped doing it part way through and just integrated what they had done into Ocarina of Time.
The main fact is, The Wind Waker is more than good enough for anyone. Since yesterday my opinion of it has changed - no longer greatest console game of the millenium, it is now greatest console game EVER. Its just the sheer scope of the game. Earlier today, I was just sailing between some islands, when I found a little tiny island. There was a swimming pool, waterfall, beach, a cabana and some bloke staring out into sea. I crawled under the cabana and found some rupees, spoke to the man and then went on my merry way. It made my day, and that might sound sad, but there seems to be no purpose to this island other than for adding a sense of the game being a real world (ok, thats not true, but I don't yet know how important the task is and I don't wanna ruin it for you by talking about it here now.) The graphics are something else. After 5 minutes you will be wondering why every single game in history wasn't made in this style. The best thing is the weather - not so exciting on land, but out at sea its incredible. I've had it all - thunderstorms, lightening, rain, fog, shining sun - and you know the weather by the sound effects as much as the graphics. Its immense.
And I haven't even mentioned the music yet... suffice to say, the forbidden forest music is the most suitable and atmospheric piece of music ever to grace a video-game. Its not the best piece of music ever, not by a long shot - Grim Fandango has better music, for one - but this music suits the scene so perfectly its untrue.

And you are worried about your bonus disc - trust me, its a free gift thats worth having, but the real bonus here is the hidden depth of this marvellous game.

(So, I think that proves that Gamecube has won the console debate. Also, GTA4 is cube bound, when it's made - trust me, I got that information from a reputable source.)

05-03-2003, 12:06 AM
Look, whenever the fact you're lumbered with a higher-resolution, lower-frequency TV standard than those stupid Americans starts to get you down, or you feel the anger at the injustice of PAL release dates welling up inside you, just think of all those same smug NTSC game-playing Americans clamouring (clamouring, I tell you!) for the LucasArts Entertainment Pack! Or watch Fox News for more than three minutes (I dare you!), or find a picture of George W Bush and make some disparaging remarks in its general direction! Feel your new-found calmness wash over you, and let your gratitude overwhelm your anger until you emerge, triumphant, on the other side of whatever, metaphorically speaking, you have just been passing through!

You see, my son, here on the other side of whatever it was I was talking about, you have found Perspective.

It could be so much worse.

05-11-2003, 04:32 AM
Screw that. Metal Gear Solid was a great game, but I already played it to death on the Play Station. The fact that Silicon Knights are being wasted on this will probably mean further delays to Too Human. Then, once this full-price port of a five-year old game fails to sell as well as a new game would have, Konami will use that as an excuse to say the GameCube isn't a viable market for their games.

I don't know why they don't just bring MGS3 to the Cube.

05-13-2003, 05:05 PM
Its called "Twin Snakes" and will be unveiled in 2 days. Or one, I forget.
