Godamnit... for some reason, this is making me so furious tonight. I see all these radical fundamentalist muslims and al-qaeda fighters all lusting for western blood. I see Bin Laden calling for the death of all Americans, and proclaims that a dirty bomb will be detonated somewhere (presumably in a city where it'll do the most damage).

It's not right, goddamnit! Why should I, or anybody, die? I didnt do anything! Nothing! I've lived my life the best I can. I worked hard to help my fellow man, and have generally been a pretty good person. And some radical muslim wants me dead because my beliefs arent the same as theirs!

Even if that isnt the reason, and they're mad over something the US gov't did... WHY SHOULD I DIE? I didnt do anything! I voted against Bush, I didnt support any real war effort. Heck, half the stuff they're lamenting about occured before I was even born. Why do you want to kill me for something that happened 30 years ago? I'm only 21!

The more I see events unfolding today, the more I wonder how long I, my family, and all my friends both here in my town and across the world have to live.

It's just not fair...

Nicely said, Shock. Of course, I agree with you, it's just so ridiculous , they're making themselves and their religion look bad, I'm sure that there are many others thinking the same thing as you. I'm only 15, I haven't even got a chance to get a good look at the world, but as you have also said, what can we do about it? It's a pretty sad situation

It is ridiculous that things have come to this point, Shock. Unfortunately, we're here now, and there's not much we can do. There will always be people whose views/religion/ethics/morals/etc do not match others. All we can work towards is a world filled with tolerance and understanding - even if we never get there, it is the struggle that defines and refines us as human beings.

What I'd really like to know is this... what's got them so pissed off at us in the first place?

I'm really scared, I live in Canada and we're good friends with the U.S. and I don't like Bush either but it is how you guys said a sad situation. Lets pray for peace, I know I am. At my church we all prayed for the presence of Jesus Christ in the world. And I hope many lives will be spared and that this will end quickly and with great impact on anybody that it doesn't deserve to.

In a war, there is always casualties. Let's just hope that it's not too severe, and that no more people have to die then is necessary.

I say we invite all the jokers from North Korea, Iraq, and the Terrorists over, and we all drink untill we pass out. Last man on his feet wins the war.

I'm only 15 so its hard for me to comprehend what 21 year olds and every are feeling but I have to admit I'm afraid of bin Laden. How one can be so set on wiping out an entire country and ethnicity disgusts me...

Al-Qaeda Goals, from terrorismanswers.com

1. Establishing the rule of God on earth.
2. Attaining martyrdom in the cause of God.
3. Purification of the ranks of Islam from the elements of depravity.

So basically, destruction of everything non-muslim, as well as themselves in the process.

It's funny how both side's gods speak for peace, yet we can't wait to maul eachother.....

Eldritch

I'm sure for them those are great goals, but I'm pretty sure that it doesn't say ANYWHERE in the Koran (sp? Muslim holy book) to kill all the non-Muslims in the name of Allah.

Here's a quote from Dennis Miller, "If you're getting a signal from your God that you should start killing other people in his name, you better crush some tin foil on your antenna, pal - cause you are getting some heavy, HEAVY interference."

No, jihad isn't even included in the Koran if I recall correctly. It was made up by extremists like bin Laden to justify what they were doing to other people.

You're right Aru-Wen, it doesn't. Islam like most religions is one of peace, and in fact, one of the few that doesn't really try to convince people to join it. I've noticed a lot of people use the words "true christian" from time to time, meaning that people who say they are christians and don't act like it, are not really "true" christians. These are not "true" muslims, they are bending and perverting their religion to fit their own needs and goals. They aren't the first to do this to a religion(the crusades come to mind), it's happened with a lot of other religions as well but that's not the issue here. Just remember people, don't judge all muslims because of a few fanatical ones, they aren't all like that. I'm not talking to anyone specifically, but I've seen enough "BoBm eM aLL!!1!1!!1" posts on Lucasforums to know that there are people out there that think this way. If you condemn all middle eastern people because of a select few, then you are doing the same thing they are, and are no better. Jumping to conclusions often leads to painful landings.

While Muslims do believe that dying in battle gets you immediately into heaven, they also believe that killing innocent people will send you straight to hell. Dying to protect your family, country and religion is one thing, dying and killing non-combatants in a war that shouldn't be taking place is something entirely different.

Exactly my point. They're just making up stuff and then thinking up imaginary rewards. No better or less crazy than the Heaven's Gate cult of a few years ago.

Heaven's Gate Cult Leader : Now, to get to the spaceship behind the comet, we've all got to kill ourselves. That's the only way we can get to the new world.

 I'm not quite sure how that works - if you make something up, and you do it, you get the reward?
If that's the case, my god says if I post on Lucasforums, I'll make a million dollars a year.
Godly Voice : And I'll throw in some virgins, too.
Wow, thanks God! :D

White, read up a couple of posts and you'll see al-Qaeda's goals, quoted from a website. That, apparently, is why they want to destroy us.

I agree with you guys. It really is sad that all this stuff has to come up.

I really don't want to go to war but we just can't sit here and wait for them to come to our door knocking with some weapon.
That is why we are going to war but if it wasnt for that we could just stay here and not worry about anything but out own problems.

It just seems to be that innocent people are always going to pay for someone's mistake that is not related to them.

What I am wondering is when all this happened that they got real pissed off at us? Is out success that fuels their hatred or did we do something to these people that really got them of there rocker?

Not really sure what the war in Iraq has to do with crazy terrorists......i know iraq has funded terrorists, but going to war with them won't stop terrorism....

And as to why they hate us, multiple reasons, most of it is the wasy the US government involves itself in other countries, etc. etc. etc. And because we are profitable and they are not, and they hate the Western Influence in their lives.....so on, so forth.

True. But nobody said we should die for reasons like this. War is evil, plain and simple, and it can't be justified IMO. I hate this world we're living in. I hate it, I truly do, but we have to deal.

 it's all brainwashing...most of the bin laden tapes aren't even real....don't you get it that the government needs you to hate them so you will support ANY action takin against them.

I was gonna say allot more but allot of the times it's futile..:(

They could use some Agressive negotiaion from me and my dual sabers!

It is that feeling of everything out of my control that gets me.

I REALLY want to go and do something. And I mean do SOMETHING.

Not just go out with the armed forces, but hope in my Custom B-Wing, bomb Al-Queida with some Heavy Proton Bombs (see the mountains withstand THAT) then ripo through Iraq with my saber, dealing with Saddam and minions.

But life is life, not a movie, so I sit and watch as the amount of waste material hitting the air conditioner gets ready to triple!

I disagree. Every war that the US has had has lead to more War (Revolutionary War/War of 1812; WW1/WW2; Persain Gulf/The war right now). War does not bring peace, it brings more war.

The United States is not the only country to have ever had a war, you know....

Anyway, someone, no matter who, will find a reason to go to war with someone else. Be it a country against a county, or a person against a person. As long as people exhist, there will be conflict.

I know I do not sound optomistic, but I am just telling the trueth.

Well, the war is gonna happen whether we like it or not, protests never do a whole bunch of good.

The war is wrong, period. You know there's something wrong when your government starts endorsing duct tape and plastic sheets.
