This is how it'll work.
I will post a quote from LotR and you guys have to guess who said it. You must give the exact name of the person and not just "Oh, that guy that the hobbits talked to in Bree."
The first one to get it right will get 1 point. I will run the thread for awhile and at the end the person with the most points will win. Every time someone gets one right I'll post another quote. Some will be easy, some will be hard so keep checking the thread for your chance to win! Ok first quote:

Who said:

"Good evening, little masters! If you're looking for accommodations, we've got some nice, cozy hobbit-sized rooms available."

Butterber from the prancing pony in at bree.
He was a fat, forgetful guy...

Ok one pont for you! This is how it will work from now on, if you are 100% sure your answer is right post a new quote after your answer.

Ok
Um..."You shall be the fellowship of the ring."
or something like that

BTW, I prefer Altus over Thrawn.

BigTeddyPaul

Celeborn or the Matrix dude. Whichever you prefer.

This comes from my favorite part of the book and is more or less my favoite quote:

HINT: A cold voice answered:
Come not between the Nazgul and his prey! Or he will not slay thee in they turn. He will bear thee away to the houses of lamentation, beyond all darknees, where thy flesh shall be devoured, and thy shrivelled mind be left to the Lidless Eye.

Absolute favorite part in all the whole books. That and how golf was invented.

I'll make a guess, I don't remeber that part, but I just am in RotK.
Aragorn!

BigTeddyPaul
03-01-2003, 08:52 AM
Not Aragorn.

Since it is 5 in the morning here I am off to bed. If someone gets it and knows they have it feel free to continue on. HOWEVER, if you are not sure my question still stands. I will be on in about 7 hours (12 Pacific, 3 Est) to check.

Remember it is from the books and I gave you a decently good hint.

All wrong. Man I didn't think it was that hard. Night all and have fun answering it. If no one knows in about 18 hours I will tell you and choose a different quote unless you all lynch me and force me to tell you sooner.

The Nazgul king (can't remember what his name was sorry)

His name is the Witch-king.

Anyways, my guess to BTP is Gollum...

BigTeddyPaul
03-01-2003, 07:09 PM
Possible answers were:
Witch-King
Lord of Angmar
Nazgul King

The quote can be found in Return of the King in the first 150 or so pages (most of the time). In fact it is right befre

Eowyn kills the Witch-King. The Witch-King was telling this to Eowyn's alter ego Deneradil (or something like that) and then Eowyn reveals that she is no man and can kill the Witch-King since she is no man and men cannot kill the NAzgul Lord.

I believe Reborn Outcast got it right first so his quote next.

EDIT: Oh and Sam Fisher, the answer to your quote was Hob Hayward. :D Do I get another point for that? :D

And my quote was

Oh! I know... it was the guy with the long, impossible-to-pronounce name that no single person cares about enough to remember.

Hang on, this is about "Lord of the Rings", isn't it? Ooops... better narrow it down, or you will think I am talking about every character in the bloody thing. C'mon, people, when will you all see the light and realise that the pathetic world of what's-his-face who wrote the books is drawing you all in and making you all terribly boring?

I'm off to do something creative with my life. Have fun, losers.

quote from the book...make it harder ;)

BigTeddyPaul
03-02-2003, 05:38 PM
"Prdie and Despair!" he cried. "Didst though think that the eye of the white tower was blind? Nay, I have seen more than thou nowest, Grey Fool. For thy hope is but ignorance. Go then and labour in healing! Go forth and fight! For a little space you may triumpth on the field, for a day. But against the Power that now arises there is no victory. To this City only the first finger of its hand has yet been stretched. All the East is moving. And even now the wind of they hope cheats thee and wafts up Anduin a fleet of black sails. The West has failed. It is time for all to depart who would not be slaves."

This is a big part in the book which gives insight to Gandalf (hint it isn't Gandalf). Also, if you look at the clues in the sentences it isn't too hard to figure out who this is if you have read this once or twice.

This quote is from the book and my hint is this: It is a foreshadowing to the end of the events of RotK. This should at least tell you when it is said.

"Half a moment!" said Person whom you are trying to guess. Putting his hand in the brest of his jacket he pulled out a little soft wallet on a string. "I keep a treasure or two next to my skin, as precious as Rings to me. Here's one: my old wooden pipe. And here's another: an unused one. I have carried it a long way, though I don't know why. I never really expected to find anyPIPE-WEED on the journey, when my own ran out. But now it comes in useful after all."

There is another two sentences but they do not help.
