now personally I can't believe this but I ran a search and it didn't come up with any old threads on this topic so here goes.

as its shrove tuesday next week I was wondering what your all going to have on your pancakes and what your fav combination is.

I will be having:
suger and lemon;
suger and lime;
maple syrp;
ground nutmeg;
and anything else I can thing of at the time.

so what about the rest of you?

mmm pancakes I can't wait.:)

I date her - I get this all the time...

Basically - what do you have on your pancakes.... Think the American term is 'short cake'? :confused:

I've never heard of shrove Tuesday, but I eat my pancakes with maple syrup regularly.

Nah, it's pancake, but the whole title makes little to no sense.... I'll try to bear with her then.

I like syrup and butter.

Or, strawberries or blueberries over it.

you eat pancakes when it isnt shrove tuesday! :eek: :D

it must just be a tradition in Britain then, although some people do eat pancakes at other times of the year

but i frown upon those people :D ;)

I see. Instead of talking about our pancakes, can we get an explanation of what shrove Tues is? I have Pancake Wed at my church once a year on Ash Wed... Is this a British or religious thing?

I belive it is religious, and around the ash Wednesday time (week before it I think), but I figured from your posts it is more a British thing to actually 'celebrate'.

Not sure (Believe I have a Guardian Spirit of a wolf looking over me, not in anything like God. Im wrong one to be asking. After all, when was last time YOU saw an wolf eating a pancake!)

ill tell you as long as no1 points out all my errors :)

basically, a religious festival called lent happens on the day after shrove tuesday and the festival consists of not eating anything at daytime for the next few weeks. to stop your food cupboards getting full of food you use up the main items of food in your kitchen. these main items are the ingredients for pancakes! :D

I see. Yeah, I am not Catholic and don't give something up (or fast) for Lent. Alright. My answer was given. I still have never heard of this Tues... Oh well.

Its the day before Ash Wednesday (the start of lent), also called pancake Tuesday. originally people used to give up flour, eggs and milk for Lent (also because they were running out of them by this point). So they used to use all they had of these things the day before Lent started on Shrove Tuesday (thats what it says on my calender) and because the thing that used all these thing but very little else was pancakes they used to make lots of them. And so Pancake Tuesday was born. Hey how come I know this stuff better than most of you and not even Christian.
