View Full Version : Is this acceptable?

I've got a map with a movie theater in it and a lot of seats (lots of brushes), and when it's in view, the FPS drops to about 20fps, is this a little too slow? I was thinking about making it a semi demolished theater and getting rid of the seats. What do you think?

20 FPS is too low. You might have some map holes or something. I'm not a map expert.

Hey dekerd, Just remember, that in mapping, distance is your enemy. If your theatre is a huge room, you're going to want to cut it down into smaller sections. The massive area and tonnes of seats will make it very laggy.

Um... check your manual again.
Mapping isn't really the problem - when it gets rendered 'in-game' is where true difficulty arises.
First, you don't want surfaces to be drawn where the player can't see them. Learn to love caulk. Rebuild structures that use too many brushes. Experiment.
Overall, you should start to see performance increases.
