View Full Version : Language Filter
03-14-2003, 03:46 PM
Does any1 know how the devs will implement the language filter into the game? Will they go round the staff asking each for a new swear word, and ban them that way? Or will they w8 and c what people say 1st and ban words accordingly? I need knowledge!!!!!

Expect a language filter, since they'll try to keep the rating as low as possible (i.e avoid M at all costs, and try not to get T)
03-16-2003, 01:01 AM
It has to be rated T because of the Violence, and the fact that it is an online game and exposed to many diffrenet people. I'm sure they have a dictoniary of swear words somewhere. C&C: Generals even "bleep" out non-swear words like god and butt....
03-16-2003, 09:04 PM
Yeah they really over did it in Generals. I think it was stated that the game will be T. The thing that sucks about that though is they'll probably leave out things like spice.
03-17-2003, 01:31 PM
What, I can't say, "Go to hell.", whilst dealing death sticks and Ryll spice? ;P
03-17-2003, 03:46 PM
well i have been playing Delta Force Land warior online.. and i got shot down after i killed 31 bad guys and i was on the OTHER side of the starting point.. i got pissed off and i typed: fuk.
I got banned from that server for life.
so in a less violent game like SWG.,... expect the worse :D
maybe if you learnm wookie.. you can curse in wookie :p
03-17-2003, 05:27 PM
Nah, I think you were unlucky with the choice of server man. :D
I've never seen any server that has banned anyone without a warning first, and definatly not for life. :p
03-20-2003, 06:05 PM
well yeah, it is possible cause they mark down your public ip adress so if that ip adress comes back=kicked from server
03-21-2003, 01:17 PM
I don't remember where I learned this but the filter is optional. So you can type something to turn the filter on and then it's on. Type the same thing and it's off.
I'd have typed it this way Fuque. -que= k sound in French.
Go fuque yourself you fuquer. Lol.
03-21-2003, 01:55 PM
A language filter is merely a way to spur you into figuring out more poetic and devastating ways to humiliate your target! ;)
03-21-2003, 09:57 PM
haha, fuque thats good, language filter would be good if my parents ever came snooping around
03-22-2003, 06:09 PM
well i for one am not gonna try it out..... ill just say: sithspit or nerfherder or something like that :D
03-22-2003, 11:36 PM
Now we're cooking! :D
03-23-2003, 12:54 AM
aw sithspit! my nerfherderin shoes are nerfherderin gone! AHH sithspawn my nerfherderin toe is nerfherded! SITHSPIT you idiotic nerfherder
03-23-2003, 08:35 AM
well i think that should be done... swear star wars style..
you scruffy looking nerfherder ;)
03-24-2003, 10:25 PM
yeah, but how many SW cuss words are there?
03-25-2003, 12:24 PM
How many swear words do actually need anyway? :D
03-25-2003, 08:03 PM
well... i mean how many you know like besides nerfherder and sithspawn
03-26-2003, 01:23 PM
No, I meant, do you really need to know a bunch of different swear words to get by in the first place. :D
03-26-2003, 05:39 PM
For SW curses, just think of things that SOUND insulting when compared to the game.
4. Droid=Yes man
5. Spit=Nasty slime of the mouth
6. Tatooine=Hot headed/Farmer/Lower-class
Then mix 'em together: "You Tatooinian Sith-droid! Gungan Spit on your entire Nerfherding FAMILY!!!"
Something like that I guess would have more Star Warsy feel to it.
:D :p ;)
03-26-2003, 06:54 PM
I don't know if I should commend you for comming up with that, or edit your post. :D :D :D
03-26-2003, 07:07 PM
Exactly, just think of the things that common RL cursewords means, and what thoughts and concepts they represent. Then exchange them for their counterparts in the SW world. And since all cultures bases their curses on different concepts, the more languages you learn, the more complete a foulmouthed freak you become!
Now, if that isn't a motivation to learn new languages, I don't know what is! :)
03-26-2003, 07:09 PM
I don't know, it's just all logical if you think in terms of what your character would think. They don't know any cuss words from OUR time, so think in terms of theirs and it becomes simple.:p
03-26-2003, 08:35 PM
lets see... what Star Wars curse words do I know?
"roar" hey... Wookiees cuss too :D
ok some of those arn't really SW cuss words....
03-27-2003, 03:14 PM
I liked your response Sunshine Badass. It makes my sides hurt! I think that if you are going to RP then you should swear like you are in SW. So, that'd go along with this post.
*mr. burns* Ahh, I see. You all are a bunch of 'yes men' aren't you?
*they reply* Yes sir!
03-27-2003, 11:37 PM
thats was hilarious Sunshine Badass, i also think damn is a a sw cussword two cause ive heard it a couple times in sw
04-08-2003, 09:49 PM
Either way they should have an option to have the filter on or off, like pshh..
And since we're paying for it why would we end up getting banned for swearing, we shouldnt be banned at all on Galaxies >.>
04-09-2003, 07:45 AM
Behaving in such a way that you ruin other people's playing experience should get you banned, yes. Though, to me, saying a curseword now and then isn't such a big deal, but neither will you be banned for it. Walking around and shouting mean things to everyone you meet, however, is not acceptable.
You have to stop thinking "I've payed, so I have every right in the world!", because so has everyone else too.

or the dumbest word in star wars ever saiid is "wizard"... I hated that when Ani's little friends said that... I almost threw up
04-12-2003, 03:35 AM
I'm sorry, they said what?!? And when?!?
04-13-2003, 03:30 AM
Personally I'd leave the filter off, its just not as fun when you kill someone and you cant see them saying you Fing cnt blah blah. Its just not as funny.
04-13-2003, 10:23 AM
One of his friends said, "Wizard!!" When they first saw his speeder. I totally agree- I was thinking, "hey, I didn't know people in a galaxy far far away said the same thing we do!"
04-13-2003, 11:22 AM
But then, everyone knows that "Wizard" is just a flavour of tea. A good one, yes, but still just a tea. ;)
04-13-2003, 02:16 PM
Ok, I'm totally confused.
See? ---> :confused:
I'm gonna have to rewatch Ep I now.
Oh, the horror. :( I'm gonna have to see Jar Jar again. :D :D :D
04-18-2003, 08:14 PM
yep, episode one can be a pain except at the end...
04-19-2003, 11:38 AM
Get it on DVD so u can skip all the bits with Jar-Jar. The end of Ep1 is by far the best lightsaber fight yet.
