I found myself speaking to a gentleman last night at the local Barnes and Noble bookstore... i was browsing the Sciences section, which happens to be adjacent to the religion section.

We sat, had coffee and chatted for at least two hours! You see, he was browsing the religion section.

Anyway, long story short: I think I finally see the light. I understand the word of God as he told it to me! It was beautiful!

I'm giving up my ideas of all that "evolution" nonsense. It is clear to me that a loving God could very easily have created it all to be the way it is and appears without millions or billions of years of evolution. The way Christ lived his life is my new path.

I've accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and now I feel reborn!

I look forward to tackling the same side of the thread as WhiteRaider, Reborn Outcast (hey... we have something in common!), Psydan, and (gulp!) Tie Guy! Move over guys... I'm on your side now.

*rolls up sleeves.

Okay.... let's get busy.

I'd absolutely love to hear your reasons... After this thread (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=89510)... Have you been playing the devil's advocate all the time, cuz I sure as feth never have seen a better executed ploy if you have. Or is it a conversion?

If so, what convinced you? You came off as a very reasonable, rational kind of person...

C'Jais:

Jack Chick? I somehow doubt it...

But you are right of course, the End Times are indeed nigh. All the signs are there: Archaon gathers his host, Abaddon launches his 13th Black Crusade, and Skinwalker goes religious. Ei, ei, ei, ei...

He giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. Daniel 2:21b-22

Faith is a reality, something that gives "substance" to things before they become visible to the natural eye. 2 Corinthians 5:7 declares that we walk by faith, not by sight. When we are "born again" we are given spiritual eyes to see things and understand things that otherwise we could not discern without the Holy Spirit.

I see things much differently now! Come join me Cjais... Shadow T... come into the light!

Skinwalker I am very happy for you. I too believe in God, and excepted Jesus into my heart actually back when I was 13. I have not always walked the walk, but I do not doubt the existence of God, since I had a very near brush with death once, and witnessed a genuine miracle. I stand beside you on your decision. I still see no reason to follow you into the 'light'. The 'light' has only caused oppression and murder so far. Sorry to burst your bubble.

"Follow those who seek the light, shun those who have found it."

Wiser words have not been spoken, IMO.

I kinda knew that religion isnt a topic to joke like this about( Reason why I didnt even try to lead you guys on..) because some people do take it seriously.

Like my math teacher told me, that she was patriotic of Armenia (since she was one)or something, and Turkey had alot of thier land. So thier friends decided to say that Turkey gave back the land to the Armenians..however it wasnt true and she said she felt awful afterwards.

The point of the "April Fool's Joke" wasn't to mock anyone's God. It was to mock the seriousness with which we threw ourselves into the "evolution/creation" debates this past 6 or 8 months. I must admit, that if you didn't debate this issue with myself or a few others, then you probably didn't see the irony in switching sides of the issue.

Besides, if there is a God (and I never stated that I totally discounted the possibility in all of my posts in those debates), she undoubtedly has a sense of humor. And in this time of such serious issues on the planet, if I made a couple people forget the woes of the world through laughter, I'm happy.

C'mon guys, I'm sure Skin didn't make this joke merely to play on people's goodwill, but as he said, rather to play on people's seriousness.

Just a funny bit from a great movie. I always thought that "finding [Jesus] Christ" was funny, because it implies that he's not going to do anything for you if you don't find him. Doesn't quite fit with his view of unconditional love for all mankind, but I don't really want to get into that discussion. Another thread for another time.

I think it was a great April Fool's joke, and I think that people who are truly secure in their beliefs can tolerate a little friendly "poking-fun-at" every now and again. Besides, it's a joke, so lighten up, eh?

I figured that the way some people get so bent out of shape concerning religious dissent that they'd be hunting him down to burn him as a heretic. The best part wasn't the joke itself, but the animosity created when he let on that it was a joke. Someone actually got mad that he didn't really convert. I wish I knew people that were so personally involved in my beliefs.

I saw no animosity. There were more posts pleading with Christians not to be mad about this being a joke then there were posts by Christians saying they were mad.

I think everyone just expects Christians to be mad. From what Iíve seen most of the Christians here are pretty gracious (myself and Mandilorian54 not included.)

I hate to be so straight forward, but according to my beliefs, the only way into Heaven is to accept Jesus as the lord and savior. I do indeed say the same thing to the Jews. They are God's own people, but if they do not accept their own savior, what bigger slap in the face is there?

Like that or don't like that, it's up to you. Me, I believe it with all my heart, and no biology book can change my mind.

Last time I checked, God was the head honcho for both the Jews and the Christians, so I think he'd have the final say, not his son. And I think I remember reading something about God's unconditional love. I think that having to accept his son as your savior to gain entrance into heaven is a pretty big condition, wouldn't you say?
I'm not trying to change your mind, i'm just pointing out something that (to me) looks like a pretty big oversight.

obi
04-04-2003, 12:49 PM
You're absolutely right, Aru-Wen. God is the head hancho, and does have the final say. He has already done so in his scriptures.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth shall not parish, but have ever lasting life.

Romans 8:1-2

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

God does not condemn anyone to Hell, we condemn ourselves. He gives us many chances to repent and follow Jesus. If we don't do that, it's our own fault.

What about the muslims? What do they have to do with this?

It's the same as the jewish book because it was written basically by jews.

obi,

Your first post backed up with scripture what you had previously stated. Incidently, I was a Christian for a long time so my decision to no longer be one is not a result of misinformation.

However, neither post addressed the issue I brought up, which is that God cannot both have unconditional love for all mankind and also place a condition (i.e. accepting his son) on salvation.

If he loves everyone unconditionally, he'd send you to heaven regardless of whether or not you believe in him.

well according to that you dont have to except him as your saviour but if you believe in him/ his existence, then you are not parishable.but thats just my interpretation. also what bibles do ya'll follow? if it's king james then woah you need to check queen annes or .... this other one that i have somewhere ill update this soon when i find the name. i say woah because the king james was changed severely by king james to place the ruler's of the kingdom in more power and many other things. lots of the stories were heavily edited too. also why is incest so despised yet the only possible way for the creation story to work is by incest? Not quite.

There's a condition on this love - you have to believe in his son, or, a specific form of him. The Jews don't do this, so they're screwed.

Quite the paradox.

I'm guessing you read king james? anyways in the unedited bible/ queen annes bible, saul turns to paul after a year of thinking on his views and opinions and eventually decides to accept christ as his "saviour" and spends the rest of his life preaching the "gospel" of christ. well in the KJ version its the same but he instantly becomes christian. well according to ya'll religion is a serious matter therefore it had to take him longer than a split second to decide his religious pursuits. so either religion is no big deal, or at least not to paul, or the bible has got a few flaws (which it has many)

Mohamed was a prophet and muslims do not believe in the christian bible, just some parts and that jesus was also a prophet, same with the jews.

I agree with cagedcrado. except i'm not sure about all that being put in the bible just to scare people. I actually have no oppinion on that, I mean, I don't see why they'd put a lie in the bible but i also don't see why God would send a good person to damnation just for not having faith or losing their faith or whatever the case may be.

As C'jais pointed out, that's not exactly true. That depends on what branch of Christianity you believe in. There was a big debate about whether or not Jesus, God and the Holy Spirit (often referred to as the Trinity) are one collective being or 3 separate ones. Those who believe they are separate believe Jesus was human, not divine (this means they can not be one being) nor his son.

There's a condition on this love - you have to believe in his son, or, a specific form of him. The Jews don't do this, so they're screwed.

Quite the paradox.
Exactly what I was trying to point out. Exactly.

I actually kinda have a theory on the whole Muhammed and Jesus thing. You all will probably think it's dumb but it's just a thought... Maybe they're the same:confused: because the stories of the bible and koran have been taught for thousands of years and we all know how stories and things like that can get mixed up and confused so maybe somewhere along the line the story was told wrong and it got some people confused:confused: lol i know it sounds dumb but it's just a thought. maybe when christians and muslims pray, they're praying to the same God and they just don't know it:D lol I can only imagine what everyone is thinking right now. you're probably sitting there like  hehe, sorry:lol:

umm, we do all pray to the same god.... I am kind of into the hindu thing where every religion is for the same purpose but believe in different ways, also literally it is the same god, as well as the jewish faith.

Actually I think Islam started around 622 ad on the Christian calendar. The Jews came, then some spun off and became Christians, and later Mohamed sat in the cave and Voila! Islam!

But you are correct sir, they all worship the same God. Sad to think Christians Jews and Muslims all praying to God for him to be on "their" side. "

The topic was April Fools.... it's now April 4th.

What's done is done. To all those who got a laugh out of the humor of the joke (which was intended), it gladdens my heart to know I can make someone laugh in times as serious as these.

To all those that were offended, embarassed, hurt or otherwise irritated, please understand that I would never intentionally use another's beliefs as a way to harm them. I obviously didn't think anyone would be more than a bit bothered by an April Fool's joke that used religion as it's vehicle. I was wrong. I've learned. I expected that those that I debated against about evolution/creation would be the last ones to believe the scam.

I CERTAINLY didn't intend to create Yet Another "Religion Debate Thread." So I have two more things to say:

1) What's needed is a dumb joke. One that is so dumb, that it will nag you for days. You'll think of it and smile. Not only that, but a dumb joke gets funnier with time. But in case you are offended by dumb jokes, I'll use the Spoiler. If you pm me saying you were offended, it's your fault not mine.[/disclaimer]

Two cannibals were sitting around eating a clown. One lifted his head and looked at the other while making a face. He asked, "does this taste funny to you?"

2) Cjais... Please CLOSE THE THREAD! Let it end with no more debating/slandering other peoples' beliefs (too which I accept full responsibility for starting).

I don't think there was any slandering of beliefs, but the thread probably should be closed.

BTW, I like that dumb joke, and am in no way offended by it.

Well, I've always disliked debating reliogion. Mainly because we will see who is right some day. Don't get me wrong, I defend my religion with all of my being, but debating its truthfulness is sort of pointless.
