The new Official Xbox Mag had a great preview article about this game. It's done with CEL Shading.
IMO CEL shading is terrible, but this game may change my mind.
It actually looks like a comic book. I'll get my scanner working so you can see what I mean.
Best of all, it's made by the guys who made Splinter Cell.

It looks amazing!!!

I don't think it is from Ubi Soft Montreal [makers of Raven Shield and SC], as they are now workin on Prince of Persia...

I get these turned around myself at times....I think the new Legend Of Zelda game is done with cel shading - that makes it look very cartoon like.

The image captions read...
You wake up on a desolate beach with a bullet hole in your head and a tattoo of XIII on your chest...and your memory erased. In your pocket is a key to a New York City bank box. Before you get you bearings a team of assassins attacks preparing to finish the job. To your shock, you handle the hitmen with the killing sklls of a professional. So who the hell are you? Off to NY, where you discover that your key unlocks a safety deposit box containing a dossier on your identity. You also learn that you might have been invloved in an assassination of the Pres of the United State.

This sounds a lot like that Matt Damon movie. Pages 44-46 suppose to be released in Q4 2003. It says Publisher and Developer UBI Soft. I'll scan it tomorrow after work.

Wait...before I see the pics and get too excited. Is this an xbox only game or will they allow it to be on pc as well?

Pad - Cell shading is like Jet Set Radio Future, the cartoon style effect. I've been keeping an eye on this game, it looks good.

i like jet set radio future. i looked at xiii but fps and cel shading....bleh...

Cell Shading and a FPS in the same game?

This could be a very interesting game. The cell chading in Jet Set Radio Future was good, but I hated the game so I guess I'll just have to check this one out for myself.

And if it is by the guys who made Splinter Cell than it can't be that bad. :)

Hey, you never know about cel-shading.

I've been playing Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and I don't give a flip about what anyone says, it's a great game.

This looks like it's worth a shot too. :)

You can't ever go wrong with Zelda though.....:)

Are you going to have a write up for it on manipulation sometime?

I myself am not against cel shading, but I don't want to see it done for every game.

You bet, Jedi Apprentice. My review for the new Zelda will be up probably late this weekend, along with a review for Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield. ;)

I hate cel-shading...

And what I hate even more is the trend where just about every japanese, and also a few western devs think that every game has to be done cel-shaded now...

I like JSRF, but I agree with you Com, I certainly don't want to see Cell shading become a trend. One or two games and that's it. There is even a car racing game being done with it now, I can't remember the name of it. It has cartoon like swoosh lines to give you the effect of speed like a comic book.

I have read alittle about Cell-Shading, but I don't like the idea of it really.... I hope it doesn't at least come to the PC. :p

I also hate cel shading. It ruined Robotech(among other reasons that game sucked).

I worried about how well Zelda would be after seeing some screens...

I don't think you can ever really judge a game by screenshots, they never look as good as the actual game itself. I only really judge a game once I've played a demo of it or seen a video clip.

Yeah, I know that to be true, but it kind of made me wonder... Graphics isn't the most important. Gameplay is, but yeah..

well, the preview in the may edition of pc gamer said that u would wake up on a beach with a gunshot wound to the head n no memory, n to make matters worse, u're the prime suspect in the assassination of the president of the US. u've got with u a tattoo reading 'XIII' and a mysterious key

it has 33 missions n if u get a headshot on an enemy, u'll be rewarded with a three-frame close-up (comic style!) of the event

The plot for this game doesn't sound at all like that of the Bourne Identity...

It's similar in that you are an agent who doesn't know his identity who has great fighting ability.

I read it's the French department of Ubi Soft.

I've been keenly watching the development of this game too. As long as they don't make it a one-trick pony and rely solely on the graphics, it should be quite good. I don't see a problem with cel-shading - it helps to give the game it's own visual style. Oni was a little bit like that, but they made the mistake of not making the environments very interesting at all. The beat-em-up combat was good, though.

Another game using a different visual style is Judge Dredd, and they're trying hard to get close to the visual style of the comics. That game is looking really good at the moment, and for what they have planned, it should have some original gameplay.

Both games are on my wanted list at the moment...until I get to play a demo. Demos are really important for me to make a decision over whether I buy a game or not these days...
