it would be that way if the religious party would be in total power. which they are not, thank god:p

Kjølen 12-26-2004 06:11 AM

hmph. I was fairly sure that the Jewish laws were the Israeli laws. Meaning, either my 7th grade Geography class, or my priest was wrong. He had said he went there and they didn't let him order a pepporini pizza because dairy and meat products cannot be mixed.

then my guess is the owner was religious.
there are place that keep 'kosher' (no pork, and dairy and meat products cant' be mixed) here, and there are normal places.

Kjølen 12-26-2004 07:10 AM

Some clothes that are too big (I'm the tallest in an extremely small family)
A grooming kit (what are you trying to say?)
A mini fridge (you gotta love em)

I was meant to get U2's new album, but my sister opened the box to find it without a CD, so I'll have to wait for my birthday for that (3rd January, don't miss it!).

I was also expecting a new phone but I gues I'll be getting that on my birthday as well (It's meant to be a surprise, so I couldn't really ask about it).

Oh, and a Christmas and Diwali's worth of money (amounting to £100)

I suppose you could count my laptop, but in all fairness, I never asked for my old one to be stolen.

Ray Jones 12-26-2004 11:16 AM

It gots me a bluetooth modem and some bluetooth thingy. Now i can upload any song i like to my mobile phone (and YES, it' a SONY.. ^^).

Did i ever mention how addictive i find LeChuck's Theme?
UP-LOAD-ED, mwaha.

Oh, and I also got the craaziest cold ever. Now I'm complete high on Acetaminophen. Excellent.

But the best thing I got is definitly the album "Paul's boutique" from The Beastie Boys.

Das Mole 12-27-2004 05:05 AM

It would rawk to download some ring tones and some lewd logos for only 5 bucks per month at the economy rate...

I live 400 miles away from home (most of the time) and sometimes it's nice to be able to contact people. There's also no phone in my flat save for a single pay phone. I need a phone for it's basic use, which is why i have one with it's basic use and nothng much more. It has a basic screen, a few games, a voice recorder I don't use, text abilities and calling abilities. I've had the same mobile for 3 years and it still works dammit (save for a missing battery cover, but hey, who needs them?)

Saying that, I'm expecting a new one for my birthday (jan 3rd, don't forget!) so i can't really talk.

Skinkie 12-28-2004 04:25 PM

I got seasons 1 & 5 of the Simpsons, and a whole pile of CDs including, but not limited to:

Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
Bush - THe Science of Things
Journey - Arrival
3 Doors Down - Away From the Sun
Night Ranger - Seven
Pearl Jam - Ten

I got a new TV out of insurance and I alread have The Star wars Trilogy on DVD and Shrek 2.

Ray Jones 12-29-2004 11:37 PM

Hey, and look, .. it's a SONY.

So.. why are you guys all seem to get DVDs? Crazy. I'm pretty convinced that in ten years maximum nearly NOONE has a DVD player anymore and you all have to obtain all that stuff again. Mechanical medias are a deceasing branch.

Yes yes I know,.. I got a 56K modem. :dozey: .. But at least I can illegally download any movie I want to.

IF I wanted to, I probably could too, but I love the pretty containers these DVDs come in these days! :D

edlib 12-30-2004 04:35 AM

I have watched downloaded movies... and it's honestly not worth the hassle, even with cable internet. It takes too long, they look and sound crappy, and you usually have to put them back together again from a bunch of different files.
If buying a DVD was insanely difficult or really, really expensive I guess I could see the appeal, but I can go to my local wholesale club store, or even (shudder) Wal*Mart, and get the latest "Special Edition" blockbuster flick for under $20,.. and if I wait a year or so, probably under $10.

DVDs look better, sound better, have all the extra features right on hand.

I think DVD will be around in some form for at least another decade. CDs have been around for what, 20 years now, and until very recently have showed no real indication that they might be going away soon. Even now I think CD is a format that will still be around and viable in another 10 years. DVD will surely be around in some form longer than that.

Downloaded movies, eh? Like...1 Night in Paris? Hmm? ;)

Anyway, I just got two more CDs w/Christmas money...

Ciara-Goodies
Ashanti-Concrete Rose

And some of those d_skin™ things.

Joshi 12-30-2004 11:53 AM

Ten years ago, if someone had told me that videos would be replaced by CD's in ten years time, i wouldn't have really cared and still have bought Videos knowing that i may one day have to replace them (and out of the 200+ DVD's that I own, legally, only a handful are video replacements, and most of those replaced films recorded off of TV in the first place).

Basically, there's nothing i can do right now considering a) I don't have a HD big enough to store hundreds of Downloaded DVD movies, b) I don't have a fast enough internet connection, or enough patience to download DVD movies and c) It's still illegal, and whilst my collection of pirated software is larger than my collection of legit software non-existant, I do draw the line at poor quality DVD movies.

Ray Jones 12-30-2004 12:43 PM

Man, I know what you mean, edlib. I'd love to get one of those Indiana Jones DVD Boxes. I mean.. INDIANA JONES!! It's like opening the original CD Cover of a Beastie Boys album.

Yeah, and maybe 10 years was not the best choice.

;)

edlib 12-30-2004 01:03 PM

The Indy box set is sweet. ;) Get it ASAP.

The Extended versions of the LOTR movies are great also. Now I have all 3. I watched all 3 in one sitting last weekend. It was pretty intense.
I have yet to make a dent in all the bonus feature material yet.

@ Joshi: 200 DVDs! I thought I had a lot! But I know I don't have over 200 yet... I might be getting close though. I have officially run out of shelf space.

Ray Jones 12-30-2004 01:18 PM

Oh those sweet times where i could watchtv/gamelikeasillynerd all night long. Or listening to one single track of a CD over and over again. How I miss this. I guess it will not come back until the kids have left home, the dog has died and my girl has gone to bed. I wish i would have more time for my LEGO, too. And if I am not whining about getting old and losing my youth, then I'm sometime on a businesstrip, with my notebook, a couple of joints and all the CDs and games. ;D
