An Idea for Shields
 
Is it possible to make the shield radius around a ship larger? I mean, can you make it so, say, the shields aren't right on top of the ship? (Trying to create a shieldship) THat way a ship that's pretty close to round could generater a shield around a large area, anf the ships inside the field wouldn't take damage until the shield had been depleted. Any help would be great.

are you saying you are trying to make one that's simular to the HW2's shield ship?

im sorry, i don't know alot about modding, trying to learn XML for EAW at the mo, so can't answer.

its hardcoded into the models, so the tight fitting shields are here to stay, and I'm not sure what your asking but if your trying to make a ship that gives shields to ships that are inside of its shield radius, I don't know how on earth to do that. The only area effects there are is Captain Antille's Weaken, but thats still a one shot deal. I don't think that theres anything in space with a constant area effect. Land you have repair/bacta tanks so who knows.

Well, they are putting out an SDK for this game so it may be possible depending on how the models can be manipulated within 3Ds Max or Maya or whatever.

I think this idea will work better for a land unit becasue there's already a shield generator on land. I want to produce one using the SPMAT or the ATAA model but I dont know how to limit the shield activation to only when an ability is used (eg. deploy or a shield abilty)
The so called shield on the capital ships are only a behavior + an extra bar of health that regenerates + a visual effect when something hit it. One way I think think of is giving the 'shield ship' an area effect abilty like the 'missile shield' of the interdictor but you substitute your ability instead of the missile shield.
Your shield abilty should force the surrounding friendly unit in the area to redirect damage to this 'shield ship' (of course you must give this shield ship more shield points or regen rate when the abiilty is activated). There's unit that do this. Only the tie_prototype and Luke_xwing that do the other way round by <Redirect_Damage_To_Teammates> (it's limited to the squad only). This is the only idea I can think of but it's rather impossible.

i'm sure you could theoretically make the shields extend out (i'll take a look), however the actual physical look of the shields are included in the models, which you would need to edit if you wanted it the look and not just the functionality.

it would make it a lot harder for the imperials as the rebels have the power to shield function, if you had a mon cal u could put a couple of corvettes under the shield to shoot the incoming bombers! it would be invincible (nearly)

well, you can always give the empire power to shields, its not hard, you just have to copy some xml.

i'm thinking there might be a way to take the shield generator on land and use it in space

That's what I was wondering about, but I'm not sure. The shield on land is a half-sphere. It doesn't go in a complete sphere, like it would have to in space.
