What does Holowan Laboratories have to do with Star Wars?
If you are new to the name Holowan Laboratories, you probally don't know where it came from. You may not know what it has to do with Star Wars. Well, I have your answer.

"Holowan Laboratories" was first used in 1996, and premiered in a book called "Star Wars: Tales of the Bounty Hunters". If you read the first short story called "Therefore I Am: The Tale of IG-88", you will learn that Holowan Laboratories is the birth place of IG-88. Holowan Laboratories was a science division for carrying out technological advancements for the Empire.

Within the reading of "Star Wars: Tales of the Bounty Hunters", the writter used the phrase 'Holowan Laboratories - The Friendly Technology People'. If you think about how these forums were labled, the use of 'Holowan Laboratories' for a modding forum was appropriate.

One could also conclude that the forum was designed to make a connection between HK-47 and IG-88. Since the original "Holowan Laboratories" created various types of droids for the Empire, the use of the name for the forums is successful.

Lol... Useless knowledge, but interesting. :)

Yes, thank you very much. I was wondering about it for a while but was too lazy to look it up.

I just thought it was a clever name that they thought up but it is nice to know how the name really came to be. Nice job for finding that out.

That explains a lot, I've been feeling like a n0b recently, not knowing what that meant.
Good work.

A few days ago, I wanted to read something, but I didn't want to go through a whole novel. Within my library of Sci-Fi novels, I have several 'Star Wars: Tales of..." books. I usually jump through them and find a short-story to read. Since I have never read through all of them, I thought I would look into the others I haven't read. Within a few pages of reading, I noticed the words "Holowan Laboratories". Lol... You can imagine my surprise when I saw that. I couldn't remember where I originally saw the name, but then it jumped out of the pages. Lol... Its a cool name to use for a forum based upon modding. :)

You know, I never knew where the name came from and I helped name the place lol. I just liked the sound of the name...it was a place that I thought we might visit in the game. Can't remember all the details, but I'm thinking it was when Knights 1 had gone gold, Com Raven and I were on icq or something and we had a few other names to chose from....at the time, we didn't even know if Kotor was going to support mods...funny how things work out isn't it? :)

Btw MacCorp - scroll down. ;)

Which was, might I add, a fantastic read.

Lol... That is pretty cool.

All the names in the KotOR forums are noticably Star Wars. When it comes to Holowan Laboratories, people stop and say, "Hey. What a cool name. Where did that come from?". Now they have a reference. Cool. :)

Yeah, I thought it was a pretty nice read as well. IG-88's story gets lost within the fabric of everything else that is Star Wars. Now its connected to KotOR as well. :)

I always wondered where the name came from... Interesting. :)

Yea, good find. I always thought one of the admins made it up. Makes more sense this way though.

Mono_Giganto 01-01-2007 09:55 PM

I actually read something similar to that once, though not in a book. 'Think it showed up in a game loading screen, or something. Figured I was the only one who didn't know. :p
