Starwarsknights Chatbox

Starwarsknights.com has recently released an AJAX chatbox on its site for public usage. You're invited to use it anytime you like and it doesn't require anything more than your browser.

You can access the chatbox now from the starwarsknights.com home page (following the Chat link in the toolbar) or directly from here:

Sweet!

Got a suggestion though. How about adding an ''Who Is Online?'' function?

Sabretooth 01-06-2007 12:53 PM

Looks like a pretty warm place from what i've seen. :p Just a lot of server errors...

Jeff 01-06-2007 05:11 PM

Pretty cool feature. Rhett and I had a nice conversation last night :D

Darkkender 01-06-2007 06:06 PM

I plan to test it with dial-up tonight. :p

milo 01-06-2007 07:16 PM

Neat-o. Too bad all the chat is "hi guys" "anyone here" "hi" "hey" *long pause* "well gotta go" "bye".

Commander Obi-Wan 01-06-2007 07:26 PM

Cool. I should check it out. See if I can produce a conversation with somebody.

EDIT: tk = awesome

Jae Onasi 01-06-2007 07:27 PM

It just takes people a little time to using it. :)

Thanks tk102 for all the hard work!

Bob Lion54 01-06-2007 07:38 PM

tk is the MAN!

This thing is cool. I'm chatting right now.

Emperor Devon 01-06-2007 09:47 PM

Thanks for setting this up, tk! :)

I'll test it sometime tonight. No one's online right now.

HerbieZ 01-07-2007 08:21 AM

Indeed. Lovely!

The Doctor 01-07-2007 04:51 PM

Not really that different from the IRC channel that was up on the page, really... It would get more activity if it were placed on the forums themselves, methinks.

KotO[REvan] 01-07-2007 06:03 PM

Good feature, nice going TK.
It can be amusing if there are a lot of people on. Or if just one person's active.

That quote gets a hearty 'indeed' from me!

Fuu 01-08-2007 12:57 AM

Seems to be popular. XD

Det. Bart Lasiter 01-08-2007 03:36 AM

Ugh Niner's making it hard2chat.

Kitty Kitty 01-08-2007 04:59 AM

Neat little chat app. :)

Of course, not many in there at this hour... But there's some "interesting" characters up at this time, let me tell ya..

Even better smile, "XoXoX Alex OxOxO" ;o)

Emperor Devon 01-13-2007 12:08 AM

Is it just me, or does everyone else get 'Error accessing the server!
requestNewMessages catch: Permission denied to call method XMLHttpRequest.open' all the time?

Sabretooth 01-13-2007 06:07 AM

Its been coming up since yesterday. TK said it might come, he's been working heavy on the thing. Another downside is that the font-colour no longer seems to be changing. TK says he was working on it, though...

I've never seen that error. I've gotten the 'Error accessing the server!' message a few times when tk102 has been working on improving the chatbox though. Perhaps it has to do with the security settings in your browser if you get that message all the time? Which browser are you using?

Hmm, font colors have been working again for me since yesterday afternoon.

Sabretooth 01-13-2007 10:27 AM

And before I forget, is it possible to add a GMT changer? Sometimes you need to post to just know the time since the last post.

I got that error a ton of times, though it switched to the one I mentioned.

Firefox. The problem seems universal, since I get 'Error accessing the server!
requestNewMessages catch: [object Error]' when going to the chatbox with IE.

I'd check the security settings. Also make sure you type http://www.starwarsknights.com/chat.php and not http://starwarsknights.com/chat.php in the address bar.

Emperor Devon 01-14-2007 03:09 AM

It turns out the wrong address was the problem. Thanks, D3! :)

Bob Lion54 01-15-2007 03:38 PM

Hmm... either tk has been working on something for over 2 hours or somethings broken...

I keep getting this message:
Error accessing the server!
handleReceivingMessages catch: readMessages throws: ERRNO: 8 TEXT: Undefined index: uuid LOCATION: /webhome/starwars/public_html/chat/chat.php, line 49

Master Demonius 01-18-2007 06:08 PM

i am getting the same message

tk102 01-18-2007 07:18 PM

That's strange. Perhaps I was uploading something at the time. Still getting it MD?

Master Demonius 01-18-2007 09:32 PM

nope

Bob Lion54 02-18-2007 04:27 AM

Just reporting this:

I was chatting and decided to refresh the page because it was getting a bit laggy. Anyway, I got the following message when I tried to get back in the chat:

Error accessing the server!
handleReceivingMessages catch: readMessages throws: error: Invalid query: Got error 28 from storage engine

Its almost 2:30 AM central time, so I doubt tk was messing with it. heh

EDIT: Well, the problem seemed to correct itself.

Det. Bart Lasiter 03-18-2007 10:50 PM

;_;

Using Firefox 2.0.0.2.

Jason Skywalker 03-19-2007 10:22 AM

It happened to me too. -.-

Master Zionosis 03-19-2007 02:34 PM

Thats never happened to me, and i have firefox!

tk102 03-19-2007 03:09 PM

I think we may have performed our own Denial of Service attack on the server. Fortunately after a few tweaks the interview recovered. We hadn't really stress-tested the chatbox before that point. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Jae Onasi 03-19-2007 06:10 PM

Heh, nothing like all of us doing a chatbox pile-on, eh? :D

Commander Obi-Wan 04-01-2007 05:54 PM

I have been experiencing a slight problem while I am on the chatbox. I don't know if others are experiencing it.

Whenever, I am inactive (offline), and I try to post something, my reply doesn't show. So, I have to refresh the page. And every time, I refresh and try to post, I am unable to post something. And I have to constantly refresh the chatbox. (If that makes any sense)

Is there anything you can do and fix this? or would it just be my computer?

There is some bug that causes it to get stuck sometimes that you can get around by pressing the "HERE" link at the bottom of the page to kick start it again. It shouldn't happen that often though.

What browser do you use, and do you have any extensions that block javascripts in some way?

Commander Obi-Wan 04-01-2007 06:07 PM

Okay. I use Firefox. It's updated. And I do not have any extensions that would block javascripts to my knowledge.

Thanks. :)

HK-42 04-01-2007 06:21 PM

Is there any news on the Lec meeting?
